  • Glitchy

Won’t connect to freedrum devices. App glitches every time. Going in the garbage.

Hi, We've made updates to the app and upgraded the firmware. If you're still experiencing the issues you mentioned, please reach out to us at support@freedrum.rocks.
  • Will be great once they get the kit personalization working

This has SO MUCH POTENTIAL, but it isn’t living up to it yet. I just got my Freedrum 2 sticks and sensors in and after having some glitchy problems connecting, I was very excited to start playing. I fooled around with it a bit and found I needed to personalize the kit because the drums felt too close to my body. When I was personalizing, the snare worked great and immediately turned green. When I moved to the high-hat, the placement was right and I was hitting it consistently, but it never turned green even after several minutes.

When the bugs are ironed out I can see this being fantastic, but it isn’t there yet. Looking forward to seeing more updates.

  • Really cool app!

I’ve been playing drums for 10-15 years, so my experience with the app may be different since I’m not a beginner. Overall, it’s pretty amazing how they made the app work with an electronic kit (I have a Roland kit) and you can play along to the songs on the app. It took me several days before I was really comfortable with the order of the instruments when playing the songs, but that’s just part of learning to use the app. Overall I would definitely recommend this to a newish drummer who wants to learn new genres or just grow in their drumming overall. For a more experienced drummer, I think it’s fun to try, but you won’t benefit from it that much because it’s really designed for newer drummers. They have advanced levels, but it’s hard do well because of how the songs function. (Think of playing Rock Band on expert.
I had several takeaways and ideas after using it for a few weeks:
    1. There should be a skills test to quickly move through the easier sections. It was extremely boring playing through the beginner section since I already know how to play. So I wish you could just try the song on the challenge first, rather than having to play the song 3 times.
    2. The hi-hat notes are confusing to figure out if it wants you to play it closed, open, or just tap the pedal. No matter what I tried, I could never consistently do what the app wanted me to do, which was frustrating.
    3. Most of the K-Pop, Pop and Hip-Hop songs were just really terrible to play. They obviously just added drum parts to the songs where they didn’t naturally fit. It was almost impossible to get through the songs because the timing was so terrible.
    4. My Roland kit has 2 crash cymbals, so I think it was be cool if you could use either crash cymbal when hitting the crash cymbal note on the song.
    5. The app doesn’t give you the actual song name/artist for the songs, which I feel like doesn’t give the artists credit for their work.
    6. The customer service is so slow!!! I contacted customer service 4 times before ever having my issue resolved, which took about 3 weeks in total. They say they respond within 1-2 days, but it’s like a week or more before they respond. In todays society, that’s not acceptable. The only way to contact is via email, which is really frustrating!

  • Good start

I’ve been looking for software I can hook up to my electric kit & that I can play along with via a note highway. So this is exactly what I was looking for. I will add that the label for each drum/cymbal are small - I can barely see them when my tablet is 2-3 feet away. More rock music like pop/punk would be amazing & an option to add music to practice via note highway from any artist would be beyond amazing. Can’t wait to see this company grow

  • Horrible experience

I have FD1 sensors. It does not work on mobile app-sensors will not connect. The app UX is deficient and I often got in navigation dead ends. Managed to use it on laptop but it is impossible to play. I mean the snair works but could not manage to hit anybother tumb or cymbal.

Support had me download a beta app to upgrade firmware. Still nonsuccess. Looks super fun but it is just clunky and frustrating.

Definitely one of the best purchases I’ve made, Freedrum are an exceptional company with a brilliant team and have created a truly fantastic drum kit.
I love the lessons that give real time feedback and are engaging and push me creatively!
Definitely worth buying the yearly subscription because it will make you a better freedrummer no matter what level you are at!

  • Make an iPad version!

Why didn’t you make a universal version. Hitting targets on a tiny screen while playing drums is difficult.
  • Freedrum 2

Waiting for my preorder to be sent out, but this app looks amazing and feels extremely responsive, will update my review when I receive my kit! Loving all the new features and functions in this app!!

  • Off to a great start with Freedrum V2 App!

I’ve been using Freedrum V1 sensors for 3 years now and their new app has got me even more excited about their V2 launch later this year. Check out their campaign now on Indiegogo. Not only is the app compatible for V1 users, but offers a very stable, quick & easy Bluetooth connection (in App). The preset DrumKits sound and look great, video recording feature makes sharing with friends a breeze…. and this is just the beginning!
Bring on the new features and good luck with the launch!!!
