I like everyone else was having issues with the app connecting to the game. The instructions are vague, and I couldn’t find a code. Well, that was because I was playing on the cloud. Once I played a bit and enjoyed the game enough to install it, a whole slew of options proc’ed, which had not while gaming on the cloud. Once you install the game, the option to select control device unlocks. That’s where you will find your code and sync both devices.
Aside from that, I am giving this 3 stars. It works, but not without some hiccups. Firstly, no distinction is provided for cloud support, or lack there of. Secondly, I did experience lag at times which costed me some QTE’s, but this may just be a general issue with the game, and not the controls. Finally, when controlling via mobile device, the Xbox does not recognize this as activity. So, eventually it wants to enter hibernation mode. Not game breaking but annoying. I extended the sleep mode to 60 minutes which seems to be the maximum allowable limit on the console (Series X). I didn’t see an option to turn it off entirely. So every hour you have to pause the game, and just press the guide button to wake up the controller and proceed. A slight oversight, which is probably an easy fix.
Outside of that, I think more of these games should practice this. QTE’s with controllers was always a clunky exercise, and using your mobile device is as close to a keyboard as you can get. Looking forward to a more streamlined approach to this in the future.
