Non-functional

The app store says that my computer can run the software and it does. However the application itself has, in red text, "Your Mac does not support on-device processing" and asks me to click on a link that just takes me to this store page. None of the features work as advertised.

Response from developer

Hi, the App Store can only tell you if an app will open on a Mac, but it can't verify specific hardware requirements for creating 3D models. That's why we make the app free to download so you can quickly verify if your Mac is compatible. Please contact PhotoCatch Support at business@photocatch.com if you have any other questions, and we are happy to help.

Warning, monthly fee

No capital purchase is possible, they instead wish for a SUBSCRIPTION... sorry, but this isn't acceptable for our use case. Would rather pay $50 and be done with it.

Response from developer

Hi, PhotoCatch offers a free tier for personal use, where no subscription is required to create 3D models. Subscriptions give you access to professional editing tools and monthly credits to PhotoCatch Cloud, with regular updates and new features.

PhotoCatch is a catch of an app

For a free app PhotoCatch is quite impressive. The interface is intuitive and creating good quality 3D models surprisingly easy. There are a couple of bugs, but for the heafty price of free they're very easy to live with.

Totally not recognizing high-quality JPEGs

Tried multiple times to process a test coffee cup object shot with my mirrorless camera. images were processed into high-quality JPEGS. Got error message saying it could not recognize my files -> try shooting with different backgrounds and with more images. BTW, I started with over 80 images.

Tried again with one of my professional quality dark background. no luck
tried again with a neutral gray background. still no luck

Feels like I am chasing something that is not suitable for my needs.

Response from developer

Hi, JPEG images are supported by PhotoCatch. The error message occurs when the provided images do not have enough information to create a 3D model. Please contact PhotoCatch Support with your images, and we are happy to provide feedback on your capture setup.

Can't tell if this app is good or not...

A few bugs in this new version that I've found from my first pass.

- won't detect image files at first and takes a few restarts of the program to recognize them.

- when the rendering is done, the model preview disapears after a short time and shows a blank panel. Impossible to do any additional editing to the file before export.

From dealing with these two issues, I can't get a good grasp of the capibilities of this app. I am a first time user of this app so perhaps previous versions didn't have these issues. Would rate higher otherwise.

Works really well and quick too

I took 20 pictures of an object on a turntable and imported them into PhotoCatch. In 2 minutes I got an incredibly detailed model with no flaws.
The interface is simple, but does have a few options. Can't see that I need much else.
I've just bought a £300 scanner that produces inferior results, so that's going up for sale now!

Can view models

Models are still downloading and it’s been 2 weeks. I imported photos I already had taken in advance knowing I was going to make a 3d model. I also took a video. Neither one will get to the point I can actually see the models. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, or if the app is malfunctioned.

Just Does not work

Tried using this with a series of sequential pictures with about 20 degrees between each from three angles, loaded them on a Mac with an M1 processor - the result was that I got an error message saying it could not process the images. Reduced the image load to a simple one angle - got awful results. The best model I got was the top of a small brown bottle - the rest of the bottle had been obliterated.

Can’t view RoomPlan scans

App keeps crashing.

This is the only photogrammetry app I could get to work!

Mac book user here, this app also has a desktop version for Mac, however, only compatible with certain models so that is disappointing. After a lot of trial and failed attempts with other softwares, this was the only app I could get an actual successful 3d model from! For that it deserves 5 stars. Can’t wait for advancements and more Mac capabilities.
