No pause recording button?

The description of the app makes it sound like a great app, but if I want to pause my recording session instead of completely stopping, it doesn't seem like I can do that. Is there a reason why this might be? I record a lot of my kids concerts and I can't seem to find a recording app that records in stereo and be able to pause. A pause recording feature would be super cool!

Response from developer

Indeed, a pause button is currently missing. You might be surprised to hear that in our user interviews, the pause button was an extremely divisive feature, with many people having extremely strong opinions like “who needs that?”, “so stupid” and “please don’t add one”. I believe the strong reactions had something to do with people wanting to feel that a tool was designed for their use case. So we started without one. I think we can still add a pause button without upsetting that group of users, it just requires careful design. We already made a few design drafts, and a pause button will come in one of the next updates. I just wanted to provide some background on why it isn’t here yet.

Everything you wish Voice Memos could do!

I don't know what sort of magic juju you guys have figured out over there but this app is incredible. It's everything I need as well as some things I didn't know I needed.

I've been recording rehearsals, gigs and random moments with Voice Memos for over a decade and have just assumed that the audio will always be trashy. But last night I hit record in Tape It Pro and chucked my phone down in a random spot and the audio is amazing. Crystal clear, no squashiness or limiting despite loud drums and bass, lots of space and stereo depth. Like actually good enough to use in a song and mix with if I needed to.

Thanks guys, keep up the good work!

Too expensive

£90? I can buy a first class effects app here for £5.99 and a fabulous synthesiser for £12.99. This is good yet give it away please or charge £6.99 lifetime purchase.

Response from developer

Hi Martin, pricing is always a tricky issue, but it’s worth mentioning that most of Tape It’s features are entirely free, including cloud storage, and there are no ads either. For the pro upgrade you can choose between a monthly, annual or lifetime purchase, so you can buy the pro version for only the exact time you need it, and use the free version otherwise. Give the free version a try, I think you’ll really like it. It’s a fully featured app, not a limited demo version. And if you ever choose to upgrade: buying Tape It is much cheaper than buying an external microphone, and Tape It’s audio quality is so good that it’s even used in Hollywood sound.

Effective, easy, fun to use

I use an Audient Evo interface with stereo mics to record my practice sessions on my grand piano. This app is exactly what I need in order to capture quality sound with minimal setup and one easy button.

Even though the app is not specifically formatted for the iPad Pro, it's well worth the annual subscription price to be able to plug in, verify my sound source (including stereo channels), and hit record. Being able to trim, add markers, and access in the cloud is also useful.

This app has everything I need and nothing I don't. I'm glad I found it.

Really glad to hear you like it.

It’s my Scenario mostly

So, in my opinion I was looking to make beats, and all that. My main problem was I couldn’t find a app that has FREE beats to make. And it’s kinda annoying. But I thought this app had free to make beats, and I can just upload my voice, but that’s kinda frustrating. I wanted to make a whole song for free, but I didn’t get to because it’s not free just to make beats :(. It is a great app, but if your looking to make beats, and stuff for free, consider.

Response from developer

Hi Kitty, Tape It is indeed not a beat maker. It’s a recorder for song ideas. Then again, we also never claimed to have built a beat maker, so I’m a little bit surprised about where that expectation came from. 😳

Superb!

Love this little app and it is a perfect companion to professional musicians like myself. The ability to record in lossless stereo is wonderful for field recordings.
Recording is simply a one touch button right from the lock screen. I would love the ability to set loop points for playback (perhaps in a future update?) but otherwise this is my go-to recording app on the go.
The developer clearly understands and cares about their audience.

Great!

Not just for music industry folks. Great recording app and the premium version is great (but not needed if you want free).

Note to devs: the search within the App Store is tough with this. I had to fully type out the entire app name before Apple would populate it.

Response from developer

Thanks for the review, Jay. We’ll see what we can do about the App Store discovery. It’s a bit of a black box for us how Apple recommends things, unfortunately.

Perfection

A + , 11 out of 10, 110%. Not only is the app this good, customer support is as well. If you work in music and/or video you need this app.

Response from developer

Thanks so much for the warm words. Really glad that Tape It helps you in your work, and that you find our support useful!

Good start

The app is great in design but still lacks important functionality. It was advertised as importing all my voice memos in iPhone, which took a great deal of my - but it imported them all with the same arbitrary date. I contacted them and first they said it was my error, then they realized it wasn’t. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app to remove the massive mess the import feature created, that didn’t work, so I’m just stuck with this mess within the app, defeating the purpose of importing them in order to sort them into folders. Meh. It also doesn’t work on Apple car play so if you want to listen to your voice or music in the car you have to still export it to another app to do so. The free version has not inspired me to buy the full version. My advice: use it as a stand alone, dont try to integrate it with past voice memos because it won’t work, don’t expect all the features to work, expect some glitches like the record button to sometimes not work, and for that sacrifice you’ll get something that works well for certain functions. I do hope they improve these things because it would be a home run if they did but I’ve had it for months and nothing has changed. Also this is form a user with an up to date relatively recent iPhone.

Response from developer

Hi Richard, We fixed a bug with incorrect ordering of voice memos in the last update. This should’ve automatically fixed all your existing imports as well; there was no need to reimport. I was in contact to several people about this, and everyone confirmed that it worked for them. I can’t seem to find an email thread with someone called Richard, unfortunately. If I somehow missed you, please shoot me an email again. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn’t delete your data on purpose - that way, if you ever lose your phone, you can rest assured everything is backed up. You need to delete your account inside the app if you want to delete all your data. [Update] The newest version just shipped with much improved CarPlay support. Give it a go! Best, Thomas

Nice interface but missing some key features

5* free app if there was the option to instantly overdub/overwrite a recording instead of having to make a new recording every take and then delete old takes. Also would mean I could name a file then record over its content without having to add the notes/title to a new file. Overdubbing is probably my most important feature in Voice recorder for me because I’ll record and idea and then practise a bit and want to get a cleaner version down.
