  • Nice presentation

I’ve used this app for a couple weeks. So far it seems to do what it does well. I’m a beginner, and it’s helping me get comfortable with some tactical thinking. I feel like it’s already helping me build part of the general skills needed for chess. And it looks pretty nice too. The ads are long and annoying, but hey, it’s free, and I could pay to get rid of them.

  • Great Design Gameplay and Ad Frequency

The game is appropriately challenging while simultaneously building on itself/the tactics established in previous levels. I appreciate that the game gives enough “hint coins” that you can earn through play to use while also giving the optional ad view - coin exchange system. With ads infrequent enough to not feel bogged down but understandably common - every 3rd to 4th level completion. - I’ve now completed all 1010 levels and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience

  • Nice game spoiled by adverts

I appreciate that adverts are an unfortunate necessity if the developer is to make money and I do play many puzzle apps and live with the inevitable adverts. So I was fully expecting adverts with this game but wasn’t prepared with just how many there are.

The game plays reasonably for the first few puzzles lulling you into thinking that the adverts are going to be tolerable but reach a certain number of games (I wasn’t counting but I would guess around ten) and then the deluge of advert starts. It then feels like you are watching continuous adverts interrupted by occasional short puzzles.

I presume the idea is to get you hooked so that you might be prepared to pay the advert removal fee. And do you know, it almost worked with me - initially I simply deleted the app, but a day or so later I thought “actually it was quite a nice game I’ll check out the price to remove the adverts”, I imagined it would be £2 or so and I was ready to pay that, but it’s £4.49 which I feel is too much.

So I walked away from what is probably a pretty nice application under the covers.

Shame the adverts are too excessive and the price to remove them too high.

  • Great Game

Brilliant fun - challenging but with an appreciated levity. Great for keeping the brain active with problem solving puzzles, and a nice change from other tactics type apps.
The timed events are great too, though I would love to be able to access them after they end so I can complete them, even if I don’t get the bonus for doing so time.
    100% would (and have) recommend(ed) !

  • Not a mindless game with no upside

I used to play games that were entertaining but added no value to my life while passing boring wait times. Pocket Chess absolutely improves my Chess playing skills. The quick ‘2 moves to checkmate’ challenges have given me a new appreciation for every piece on the board. I never would have considered sacrificing my queen or winning a game with a pawn. Trying to stay ahead of my children, who are now adults, I just executed a checkmate with my knights followed by a checkmate with my pawn defending my queen. Dad is still a force to be reckoned with :) Thanks Pocket Chess!!!

  • Great.

    Great for beginners.
    Great for advanced.

Although a little more information perhaps on pieces at the start would be beneficial.
  • Genius

Brilliant idea for a game and is very useful to my sister who has just started learning to play chess
  • Good puzzles but too many ads

Good chess puzzle app spoiled by aggressive monetisation. I understand that with a free version there are going to be ads, but as many of the puzzles are quick to solve, I spent more time watching ads than playing the game. The £4.49 price tag to unlock the full version is too steep (and that’s the ‘starter pack’ offer, with 55% off).

  • Pretty good

I love puzzles for chess, and this app makes some great ones. But, I think the levels need to increase in difficulty more quickly, and some feel out of order (easier puzzles are ahead of much harder ones). Also, they need to change it so that you can return to previous puzzles and see how you solved them, or else what’s the point of solving 200 or so puzzles without being able to enjoy the satisfaction of watching how you beat a previous puzzle?

    Overall though, it’s still fun.

  • Excellent game !

Hello, I think this game is awesome. I’m writing to ask a question, I’m now at level 450 and I would love to finish the game. But the problem is that I’m changing my phone, so the question is, will I loose my progression, or is it possible to have it on my new phone ?
Thank you very much for this incredible game
