Do not buy. Abandonware. Do not expect timely or helpful developer support.
Broken for over a year with zero developer response before he decided to go “lol it was Apple” despite his numerous competitors never having the issue. Finally gave up after months of silence from the developer and bought a competitor.
iOS 17.7, 17.6, whatever version he wants to blather about (he can’t even keep the version number straight in his replies) fixed nothing.
It’s been months with zero response from him, and now suddenly two responses in a row in two days? Sounds like someone’s passive income suddenly needed attention.
No idea if iOS 18 fixes it because I’ve LONG since moved on.

It’s not iOS 17 it’s iOS 17.6 specifically that fixed your problem. See the official release notes from Apple https://developer.apple.com/documentation/safari-release-notes/safari-17_6-release-notes “Fixed an issue where Safari Web Extension background pages would stop responding after about 30 seconds. (127681420)” That fixes it. It was a bug by Apple.Love the App…but
I have always used this app and love it. it’s free, it’s lightweight, it’s simple, doesn’t collect data and works good.
only issue is it uses/consumes battery a little i notice. i uninstall app and battery lasts a little longer but when install it back battery time decrease. otherwise it’s great app and thank you for making this app.
FEATURE REQUEST:
please always keep it small in size just as it is now and if possible please add PiP (picture in picture) mode for safari. I currently use an app called pipfier which is also lightweight and works but i would rather have it built into Dark Night app so i don’t have to download separate apps.

Dev response: I already have iOS 18, and the issues weren’t resolved. It’s the same as before.
Update: lowering rating.. many sites have stopped working with it recently
I expect paid apps to be updated frequently but the developer has completely abandoned this app. So any bugs that show up over time will just never be fixed. It works well on most sites but many of them crash repeatedly while using, forcing the need to disable it. This is one of those bugs that will likely exist forever and the app will eventually be unusable. 3 stars though because it’s a huge help at night and couldn’t live without it.Show lessmrAssman

Can you please make one of these for duckduckgo browser? They refuse to (asking for years) and it's so bright for people who suffer frequent migraines. Much preferred browser too.InkyVampire
It often suddenly fails
When using it on iOS, it often suddenly fails. Everything was normal just a minute ago, but when I click on a link to open a new tab, the whole screen turns white, which is very glaring, and I need to manually click on the extension and activate it again, too much inconvenient.Rhine_Sailor

This extension worked pretty well all the way up to iOS 17.4. After that update, it no longer automatically worked on every page, I had to relead each page each time I visited a site.
The extension also hasn't been updated in over a year. I uninstalled it.fbara
Works well most of the time
I bought this app and use it on iOS and MacOS. It does its job well most of the time. But there are some websites which are immune to its magics and retain their original theme unaffected. The most annoying issue with the app it that it keeps dark mode during the day allegedly based on the OS setting of dark mode, when it is not true. It requires Safari to be restarted to realize it is not night time anymore and so disengage. The opposite is not frequent nor does happen at all. This happens both on iOS and macOS.
When it works, it results in a dark mode as you’d expect with the option to reduce images brightness and easily create a list of exceptions for those websites you don’t want it to modify. Here too, it sometimes is inconsistent, as it does not recognize subdomains on certain website and you might find yourself forcing your settings when browsing various sections or pages in a top domain due to inconsistent results.
Finally, it would be nice to be able to pick from a variety of dark themes. Sometimes I feel it is too dark or that we could spice things a bit with a different color pallet.
Hopefully it will evolve to become better on the above mentioned issues. Anyway, the price is very fair, allowing family and cross device share (thank you!), and despite the pointed flaws I continue using it, as it does not totally detract from the general purpose of being gentle to our eyes when browsing at night.Show lessJoaoMTx

Very straight forward install and does exactly as described. Due note it is a dark gray and not pure black but idc, better than bright whites! lol for $0.99 it was totally a deal.
Also doesn’t collect data usage so that’s good. Go ahead and snatch this up.
