  • Great app, getting better

    I love this app! I don’t usually write reviews, but this one deserves it.
    I I have the paid version of this app. I’m not compensated for this review. I use this app on an iPhone 15.
    I’m 60 years old and I’ve been lifting since I was 16. Being older, it’s definitely more difficult to gauge the quality of workouts. Both strenuous workout is while you’re doing it, and how much time you need to recover afterward. This app helps with both. it helps during a workout because I can see how fast I’m moving the bar, so whether it’s a strength/power workout or a speed workout, I can tell when I’m getting tired or the weight is too heavy and adjust from there. Similarly, if I do the opposite work out the next day (if yesterday was a power workout, then today is a speed workout with lighter weight, but moving the bar much faster) I can see how much weight I should use today. You can set auditory prompts to let you know if you are hitting your velocity goal, and then you can see all your data immediately after each set. It also keeps track of your personal records and it is very motivating to see during each workout that you move the bar faster on a certain weight for this workout than you did for the last workout. Even though it is the same weight,you may have moved it faster. In that just helps keep your motivation up because otherwise you can feel like you’re not making any progress. Jacob and his team are very responsive questions and suggestions. Awesome app, awesome developer.

For an app with this level of computer vision technology and a complete set of workout tracker features we do not feel to be too expensive, especially compared with velocity tracking hardware devices that can cost thousands of dollars up front. With a Pro subscription your training data, videos, and all elements of the app are indeed permanent.   • Questioning The Accuracy of Measured Velocity

    It seems a bit inconsistent from where the timer starts for the movement and stops for the movement, across different sets of the same exercise. On one occasion, it had been way off in tracking the bar path, evidenced by the line it displayed that went in the complete opposite of the bar path. Additionally, some times don’t logically match with the load/intensity I used (i.e. set 1 of 405 lbs deadlift measured 0.55 m/s while set 2 of 455 lbs measured 0.52 m/s while set 3 of 405 lbs measured 0.57 m/s, with standardized rest times). The concept of the app is great, but I don’t feel like I can trust the measured data.

    Hey xelanart, Agh, a few people reported this quirky bar path issue a couple of weeks ago, we should have hopefully pushed a fix for that with v4.3 & another that tightened up eccentric tracking with v4.4. If it happens again do you think you could send us some sample videos of this weird bar path you are seeing? We are always hungry to improve the tracking algorithm, and bug report cases like these are really helpful at exposing weaknesses and limitations in the app! In terms of the velocity differentials these numbers are very normal and that level of variation would be fairly typical no matter the tech you use to track velocity. Every set will have its variations in technique, velocity and ROM, a spread of 0.52-0.57 for these 405 lbs deadlifts sounds like a pretty typical workout! Happy for you to send me the videos for these and I can explore further if you think the numbers are wrong though! A spread from 0.5 - 0.65 would be concerning, but all sets between 0.05m/s is Metric doing a great job of delivering reliable data! Jacob

    only one minor bug, sometimes the bar path feature doesn’t recognize the bar. Otherwise, this app is stellar for tracking velocity of the bar!

    Thanks Elijah! We are continually working to improve the bar path tracking, if it happens again, send us through a bug report via the app - these reports help us find issues and keep improving the tracking precision and reliability.

  • How to start record?

    i can’t even find a record bottom at the app
  • Good but significant bugs

    Will consistently miss sets after I hit record. When it works it’s great but will just not record sometimes.

    Hey thanks for the feedback, you weren't alone in this frustrating experience. We have spent some significant time over Jan-Feb to refine, optimise and speed up the Metric tracking algorithm. It should be significantly improved now, since the 3.6+ versions of the app this issue has become a lot less frequently reported. We also updated the support documentation on our website with guides for best practices when recording (you can find these linked directly in the app from "Account").
