Unethical
The developer pushed out this app as free, built their user base, collected user data, then implemented a bait and switch paywall with no notice and no regard for early adopters.
To be clear, paying for a quality app isn’t an issue for me. I take issue with the lack of transparency, and the bait and switch tactic. Also, if a developer is going to charge for use of their app, they should NOT collect user data or at least offer users the option to opt out of data collection. This developer is charging users twice… you’ll be paying with your data and with your cash… both in perpetuity.
With 40,000 new apps landing in the iOS AppStore monthly, developers need users much more than users need their specific app(s). Devs that disregard users and employ shady business practices won’t make it far. Reward devs that are ethical and user-centric… blacklist those that are not.Show lessDeveloper Response
We really appreciate your feedback because it highlights the importance of good communication, and we didn’t achieve that here. We apologize and want to improve this. To start I want to address all of your concerns. Transition Notification: We started sending notifications about the transition to a paid app a few weeks before the change (through an in-app message, an email to those subscribed, a post on our subreddit, and the Ohms website). However, we see this didn’t reach everyone as it should have, and that’s our responsibility. We’re sorry for not making sure everyone was informed. Your data is not sold: We believe you shouldn’t have to choose between paying with your money or your data. Your data is yours, and we don’t sell or monetize it in any way. That’s why the only paid feature in Ohms is data analysis—everything else is free. Your data is private and you control access: All of your data is processed on your device, and none of those computed outcomes leave your phone. You also have full control over the data you share with Ohms, and you can turn this off at any time. Our privacy policy https://www.yourohms.com/privacy explains this in more detail, and we’re committed to making it clearer. Trust is at the heart of what we’re building, so we’d really like to hear more from you to understand how we can get better. I like that the interface is easy to use and feels intuitive. I also really like the correlation feature because I feel like it helps give me more insight into how the varying aspects of my health interact with and affect one another.Developer Response
It’s really important to us that Ohms is simple and intuitive, so we’re glad to hear this! We all lead complex lives with many factors interacting, so helping you identify and understand them is critical to Ohms. The easier it is for you to make sense of your health, the more empowered you’ll feel to take meaningful steps toward improving it. If you’re open to it, we’d love to hear more about what works for you and what doesn’t. There are several ways to get in touch with us, so you can choose whichever option you’re most comfortable with. You can find them all at https://www.yourohms.com/contact.This is more helpful than I expected.
I thought this would be like other similar meditation apps, but the breathing exercises are super helpful.Developer Response
We love that you feel this way! We built the breathwork sessions because we didn't find any that personalized them to the user.
