  • Great simple way to capture images

I’ve been using this app for the last few days and I’m loving it. The images are beautiful straight out of the camera and perfect for capturing everyday life when all you have is you phone.

Thank you for your nice 5-Star review!
  • Best film sim camera app out there

I’ve been through a large majority of the film apps on iOS and pretty much promptly deleted them for various reasons. Poor UI, poor quality, sims look like curated insta and Snapchat filters, ridiculous paywalls, excessive ads and popups etc etc.

This apps is much more streamlined and the sims are modeled after actual film and look accurate. The free version may only have a couple of available sims but at least there’s no ads! For me, the subscription service was a no brainer. Not sure why people are complaining about $10 a year. That’s less than a dollar a month for something that will continually receive updates and become more refined as time goes on.

    Cheers

  • Amazing Film Emulation

This camera app has blown me away. The film emulation is beautiful and has allowed me to leave my Fuji x100v at home and just shoot with this app when I don’t want to carry around the extra weight. I can’t wait to see where the developers take this in the future. Definitely worth the 9.99$ a year subscription as long as future updates will be included with the price. Thanks for this great app and keep up the good work!

  • Exactly What I Needed

As a professional stylist and photographer, workflow efficiency is a must for me. When shooting on my main Fuji rig, film simulations ease the navigation of edits — especially when I’m working a bigger job. The editing routine is time consuming and some times you just want to have your photos done and ready to go. When shooting on iPhone, things should inherently be more simple. Before it would take 1-5 minutes to edit a photo through DarkRoom, Lightroom, VSCO, etc. to balance some of the colors and shadows. With RitchieCam, I have cut out so much time and can simply focus on blemishes. It fulfills the same job of film sims and keeps me in the moment when I’m shooting.

This is a minimal app for phone and camera shooters who know exactly what they’re looking for in a shot. I can’t recommend it enough — even in its earliest stages. As for the $9.99 per year subscription, that’s much more bearable that having to pay it monthly. Do it, use it, and the return on purchase will be well worth it.

  • Not bad

Not a bad app. Filters look good but only two available for free. I'd pay for it if there was a bit more options like grain and maybe basic editing.

    Developer Response

Thank you! Three filters are available for free: Standard Film, Analog Color, and B&W Negative. Importing pictures to apply filters/basic editing is coming soon. I hope to add grain in the near future for certain, but I definitely have to get it right and not settle for mediocre, which is a challenge. I appreciate the feedback!
  • Awesome!

I love it so far. Excited to see what the future holds for this app!

  • Cool app

It appears to be a really cool app, but when I went to purchase the unlocked version, I found it’s a subscription deal.

The PetaPixel article says, “it runs on a ‘freemium’ model: a one-time payment fully unlocks all the filters and features,” The app’s description in the App Store says unlock for only $9,99. Nothing about a subscription.

I’d happily pay $10 for it, but I’m not happy with never ending subscriptions for apps like this. What gives?

    Developer Response

PetaPixel's article was factually wrong. I reported that to them, but they (so far) haven't corrected it. That statement was written on their own accord (not by me... it wasn't sponsored or anything like that, they did that article all on their own), and I'm sorry that they got it wrong. Nothing I can do about it, unfortunately. As far as the app store description, when I submitted the app to Apple I wrote "by becoming a RitchieCam Patron for only $9.99 (USD + Tax Annually) today!" For some reason unknown to me (I was never told why), Apple removed "(USD + Tax Annually)" from the description, and this is something that's not easily fixed (I can't just go in and change it). On a side note, one-time app fees are an old model that's being used less-and-less. It comes from the old days when apps typically had a life of less than two years, and then abandoned. Now that apps not only stay around for years but decades, it just doesn't make sense anymore. You wouldn't expect Target to continuously update and improve a product you purchased from them years ago. You shouldn't expect that from apps or software, either. The subscription model incentives app developers to continuously improve and update their products to keep their customers coming back. It's a win-win, because once one-time-purchase app sales slow down, the developers don't find it worth their time to maintain, let alone make better. So the subscription model facilitates better apps in the long run. Not only is the subscription model already the most common model now, but almost all premium or freemium apps will be doing this within a few years (the ones that aren't already). Of course free apps are another story: they sell ads, and also sell your private information so that the ads are more affective against you (you unknowingly pay well more than you would have for a subscription... if this weren't true it wouldn't be a multi-billion dollar business). I find that super sketchy, so I don't even collect user data whatsoever, or have any ads. I hope this all makes sense. This response has been pretty lengthy, but I want to conclude with a "thank you" for trying the app, for stating that it's "really cool" (I appreciate your kindness), for the valuable feedback, and for 4-Stars!
  • Not worth it

    • the photos are always overexposed, the contrast is too high
    • the 3 free filters are no big deal
    • HEIC only (even though the AC is set to JPG)
    • focusing point is linked to the exposure causing over/under exposure
    • no GPS info is recorded
    • the filter switching is clumsy
    • the lens switching and EV comp are in the picture area

At least one can try it for free.

  • Ignore the reviews of people who want everything for free

Very cool filters in this app and good value for the money. As usual your eye for color is too notch.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your 5-Star review! It always amazes me when people want free things to be even more free than they already are. I'm reminded of Back To The Future: "If you want a Pepsi, pal, you're gonna pay for it." I appreciate your kindness!
  • Import

I really like the app and I was ready to paid the 9.99 a year. But there’s no way you can import pictures taken from the native camera.

In my case I like to take my pictures with another app and have the “original” file also.

    Developer Response

The ability to import pictures into the app and apply filters is coming! Unfortunately, if I had waited until all features were ready, the app wouldn't launch until sometime in 2023, if ever. This ability and many more features and tools are in the works right now, and you'll see the app become even better in the coming weeks and months. I talk about this a little at ritchiecam.com/faq so definitely check that page out if you haven't. I appreciate the feedback!
