  • A very dangerous system

I previously used the echo app to pull my small trailer, without any problems whatsoever. But when I was forced to download this new app, that changed drastically. Initially, it seemed easy enough to input all of the necessary info and gauge the strength and sensitivity of the breaking system, but when actually starting to drive and then break, brakes locked up and burned rubber every time. And then, a few minutes later, the app told me I had lost the Bluetooth connection. Attempts to reestablish that failed, even though the Bluetooth was obviously still connected with my phone and truck. Fortunately, I did not have to travel very far or I would’ve really been in trouble. I would absolutely stay away from this system and as has been mentioned earlier, not sure how this ever made it to the public.

  • Poor communications

We were in the middle of a trip and our unit stopped working. Up to that point it was working fine. We had to continue our trip without any brake control. We were traveling from Zion national park through Denver! I was so disgusted and knew we were in danger of controlling our trailer going down these mountains. While driving my wife was trying to figure out what was wrong with that stupid app and noticed that the old app was replaced with a different app and our we had to setup the new app. WHY COULD THEY NOT NOTIFY THEIR REGISTERED USERS OF THE CHANGE?? A simple email would have solved the problem beforehand.

  • Stay clear

I would have given this no stars if allowed. We used the echo for 3 years and loved it with no issues. This new app does not work very well. It does not pair basically at all. It kept saying it wasn’t paired even though it finally did pair. Checked to make sure it was paired and then when we pulled away it seemed to drag so we drove a short bit, finally smelled brakes. It had locked up one side of my trailer brakes. Luckily we were smart enough to stop or we would probably have had a fire. This is not worth the trouble. Decided to toss it before someone gets hurt! Someone should be fired for this debacle!

  • Won’t finish on my iPhone WARNING

Curt’s app for the Echo Brake controller quit and forced users to download this. It will not pair with my controller, because it asks for location permissions, but the bottom of the page where the link should be is off the bottom of the page and there is no way to scroll down to it. I only know because I tried it on my iPad and got it to work. Needless to say, there’s no way to hang my iPad on my dash. Total fail. Why does it need location for a trailer brake controller? Not for the user, but to have data to sell.

Updated: I contacted customer. They will not say why it need location service. They will not say if they are collecting location data. THEY WILL NOT LET YOU OPT OUT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Hello, we apologize you had trouble pairing the app. The reason that location services is needed is that the Bluetooth must have direct access to the devices MAC Address for purpose of pairing. The User Experience team would love to discuss your pairing problem and your customer service experience with you so we can work towards a resolution. You can contact us at OCAutoSupport@lci1.com.
  • Dangerous.

Used Echo Control for two years with no problem. Suddenly had connectivity problems , controller would go off and on. Curt app no longer works now . Updated app. Had to create account , now I’m getting even more junk email. Drove a mile with trailer brakes on, unknown to me , tires were smoking. I was unable to exit app. Finally pulled over , disconnected Echo Brake Control unit and drove without brakes. Had to take trailer in to check tires and brakes.

Update: took my truck to Ram dealership yesterday , had OEM wired brake control installed. Wish I would have done this when I bought the truck.

  • Does NOT Work!

This app doesn’t work…period. I purchased a Curt Echo Wireless Brake Contoller and used it with their app - it worked well. I tried to tow today and was forced to switch to this failed, dysfunctional app. I was forced to register first, delaying my trip. Registering was insanely difficult. Now the app won’t recognize the Echo device being connected to my truck. My only choice is tow without brakes. No doubt this app’s 38-page disclaimer covers them for anything and everything. *Don’t use this app!* *Don’t buy Curt Echo if this is the only app choice!*

  • Dangerous!

We had the echo app for 2 years with no problems, when forced to switch to this app we have had intermittent brakes locking up with any braking, even set to lowest settings. We continue to delete the app and redownload which seems to be the only thing that sometimes helps. This is very scary in rush hour traffic, as the trailer brakes will just completely lock up and push our car around. We are also ruining our tires! If this isn’t addressed I will definitely be seeking a different brake controller!!

  • Brakeless

The Echo never worked properly would not connect to the phone and now this new app gets stuck asking for location settings to be open. Anyway not worth the effort. Disappointing.
  • Take the time to learn this App first/ results guaranteed

I strongly suggest for anyone wanting greater safety in towing their trailers to use this App; you need to take the time to learn to use it and how it actually works first, I guarantee that you’ll be safer and happier too when you see the results on how you can remotely control your trailer brakes remotely in your truck via your mobile phone application- it is truly wonderful to use and it improves safety and theft security for your trailer too.

  • Many thanks to tech support!

I freaked out when this App was updated and had all kinds of problems. It would download, then it did but wouldn’t pair, then it paired but I couldn’t click on the “accept” button.. finally I called Lippert. I should have done that from the start and saved myself all the frustration. The tech I spoke with, Shad, was helpful and stayed on with me until everything was working perfectly.
I have taken two trips since with no issues.
Highly recommend calling if you are having problems I got thru to a real human being in minutes!
