Problems with commercials

I had this app in the past and I paid for it without commercials. I loved it! The content is wonderful, there’s so much to watch!
I decided to cut back on all my subscriptions and this was one I got rid of, but I missed it so I decided to get it again.
This time there are commercials and they mess everything up. It really drives me crazy. I decided to watch Game of Thrones and the commercials will get stuck. They don’t play, it’s forever loading and doing nothing. When the commercial gets ready to start the show continues, but doesn’t. I use subtitles and I can read what’s happening, but the screen stays frozen. After a few minutes of just reading what’s happening the commercials finally play and then the show starts from where it thinks I was. When I try to go back I have to go through the process all over again.
It’s very frustrating and even more frustrating that I’m paying for this and it’s not working properly.
I hope it’s something they fix soon. If not I’ll not be keeping this subscription.

App will no longer be kid and autism friendly.

Starting in January, and within the next few months, this app will be shifting to family and adults only. And it will no longer be everyone including special, needs friendly when it comes to the shows airing on it. I like to have both adults and kid shows to watch so I’m not limited to one or the other. And this is now going to turn into one of those one or the other type apps for me. Even though it has a lot of sitcoms and stuff that I like to watch and I’m going to miss those I am not going to support an app that focuses only on mostly adult and family Which by definition means parents and teenagers which is not an ideal level for me of things that I’m able to handle watching without getting scared unless it’s reality TV. For fictional TV and stuff like that because of my developmental level of functioning due to my autism and of understanding this app is no longer accessible or ideal for me, and I will be looking for something else that is accessible. you guys used to be awesome and kid and special needs friendly but now you’re not. Shame on you guys!

The app lags

Whenever it is time for a commercial break, instead of pausing the show and going straight into the advertisement, the show will pause and stay STUCK on whatever screen/frame it paused on for 2-3 minutes and THEN it will start playing the adverisements ; which last around an additional 2 minutes. So I’m waiting 5 sometimes 6 minutes between “Ad breaks” just for the show to come back. (And actually , it could be longer but I am just estimating, I never really timed it. )

Not only that, the lagging messes up the flow of the show and clashes with the auto play somehow and the next episode will try to start playing before the current one has actually ended; cutting off the end portion of the episode I’m watching. If I try to rewind, the rewind button/time stamp does not correspond with what part of the episode that it is supposed to.

I do like this streaming service for the content, but if you think that I, in an attempt to avoid the disruptive Ad’s, am going to pay $17 for THIS, this right here?!…. then you are mistaken. It’s bad enough that there are Ads on a streaming service. I should at least be able to view the show without having to fight and schffle against whatever causes the app to not run smoothly.

Unwatchable

Some many Issues with streaming. When it comes time for an ad, it will pause on the last scene of the show and show the ad count down like usual, it will sit there with the subtitles still playing but the video paused until the 1-2 min. ad break is over, then it will switch to showing the actual ads for 1-2 mins. Then when it final brings me back to my show the substitute are all off for 1-2 min. With ads being so often on each episode, it is almost unwatchable. I have tried everything I can think of the fix this issue including all their troubleshooting recommendations, and it hasn’t helped. It is mostly a problem when it comes to watching series, rather than movies. It also often has problem when you try and rewind the film to a certain extent. With one 10 sec rewind it does fine, anything more and it will glitch out and either refuse to load or continuous back up far beyond where I told it. Sometimes when it serves an ad it corrupts that entire part of the show and It doesn’t matter if you exit out and go back in or try the rewind it, it won’t let you watch that part. I have had Max in the past and this was never an issue but then I canceled it and resubscribed again and now it is a problem.

I thought HBO shoes were supposed to be commercial free

I’ve been watching series and I have the commercial version of Max, but there are so many commercials! It seems like it used to be with the commercial version of max that they do a lot on one episode and then they give you a break on another one to spend so much time pausing for commercials! Also somewhere I read something that the HBO series and documentaries and stuff like the cable that I was supposed to have them at all! Obviously, I don’t really mind him right switched to the non-ad one though it’s a bit much I think. I think maybe they’re trying to inundate us people who get the ad based plan with more commercial so we switch I won’t. I’ll just quit getting max before I switch and pay 18 a month! I’ve subscribed to the HBOHBO Max and now the Max and I have for years, and before that I paid for it through my cable company!
It is absolutely my favorite streaming service, but I will if I get tired of the commercials, I want to fall for the pressure to to give you guys more money! And for a while, the app itself was horrible, I know it wasn’t my Wi-Fi. I know the difference between a connection problem and an app problem. And I also have a very fast Wi-Fi service because my boyfriend and I like to game.
Anyway, that’s it

Unnecessary

The new Max is terrible! It does NOT keep track of where you left off with a series so you better write it down, take a picture, or have a photographic memory. Also, if you want to watch a specific episode, you have to choose the episode prior to that, because it starts playing from the end of the episode you selected, and starts the next one from the beginning. For example, if I want to watch S1:Ep3, the app will play the credits from that episode, and start playing S1:E4 even though that isn’t what was selected. Very annoying! You no longer have the option to choose your own picture for your profile. I also can’t access everything on my list from the home screen. I have to use the left navigation and choose “my stuff” to access my entire list. I’m not sure what prompted these changes but the previous version of the app was just fine. These “updates” were completely unnecessary.

New update: For the past two weeks, my sitcoms are speaking FRENCH! It’s not every episode though… two episodes in English, then two in French. Idk how this is possible when French isn’t even an option for language settings. I sure hope they haven’t been hacked!

The lack of respect for cartoons is crazy…

Hi, at first HBO Max was one of my favorite streaming services. It had a ton of content that I watched consistently and it was pretty reliable when it came to the app itself. But by 2021 it’s very clear that your catalog (especially the animated catalog) needs a lot of work. Not only do you remove shows that YOU OWN for no reason, you also do it without warning which is extremely frustrating. My profile on Max is literally Gumball and yet as of October 1st, 2024 I can no longer watch the show on your streaming service. I’m aware that whoever reads this won’t be able to do anything substantial but I find it interesting how originally this service was made as a hub for all things Warner bros, and now major brands such as Cartoon Network are barely being represented. On that note, this disregard for the users of the app over the past five years has made watching the stuff that I love extremely difficult. In conclusion, just because Warner Bros discovery is losing money doesn’t mean you need to take it out on the consumers who are actively giving you money by removing the things they are paying for.

Major flaw

They’ve got their parental controls backwards. Rather than needing a PIN to get access to an adult profile, you need the PIN to exit the child profile. That’s all fine and dandy until an adult closes the app and the next person to open it has access to the adult profile or the profile selection screen. You don’t need a PIN to access an adult profile, so a kid could open any profile they want and have access to adult content. The only way to block a kid’s access to other profiles is to switch the profiles to the kid’s one before you exit the app. So when mom finishes a show, I have to make sure switch profiles to the kids one before I can close the app. With any other app, I force close the app, when it reopens it’s on the profile selection page and the adult profiles are locked. With Max, when you force close the app and it reopens on the profile selection page, kids have access to adult profiles because there is no PIN to lock an adult profile. You must enter the kids profile every single time you exit or kids will have access to adult content. Just let us lock whatever profile we choose like everyone else.

Review of Max

I love the app, their movies and the series they have, but they should have all the MOVIES AND SERIES in Latin American Spanish to gain more Latin audience. I know that they are in their early years, but I know that would give more strength to the app. They should also do promotions in You Tube ads more frequently so that people catch their attention and if they add a movie that has a sequel they should add them all and as a marketing strategy add them monthly so that people who are watching the movie pay for those additional months and obviously make promo of Their in that cycle of time the movies will be coming out for example: fast and furious is released in December as a gift to all its fans that month the volume of people will do "more" and in the description of the film it can be placed that in January the second film is released and so on so that the public does not get bored and has that tension that the films with sequel will come out month after month so that they stay and the company earns money. Basically we ask that the sequel is complete and not half. And if they place new content that has the audio also in Latin Spanish which is a great group of people who pay for the platform thank you m!!!

The content is top but issues with the interface

I like the idea of the app it works OK. However, I have a couple gripes.

It doesn't work well off-line when I'm on an airplane. I find I need to connect my device to the Internet just so Max will start working and allow me to access my downloads. Otherwise, the first thing I get is not connected to the Internet or something like that.

The user interface is OK but compared to some of the other ones, Netflix for example it could be better.

Why are my items not the first thing I see. I know you want me to watch some new stuff so you put recommendations of the top but I find that irritating I want to go right to where I left off.

Having said that when I get to where I left off, it's not showing me the current show. I'm watching. It's not even showing me the last show. I'm watching. It's showing me a series that I finished a month ago as the first choice to continue watching. Makes no sense.

Your app also doesn't sync well with what I'm watching in general if I'm watching it somewhere else it doesn't always show up in your app as the most recent thing. Just continue watching two shows ago.

All these streaming apps need to focus on me and user what I've selected to watch what I'm actively watching should be the first bucket of things I see.
