Broke and annoying
The app has a nice flow of reviews and updates in the game and tech world which is nice. But they have lately made the app annoying and broken with updates. The annoyances started some updates ago where every time the app opens it asks you to sign in; I don’t have and won’t make an account but that wasn’t an issue until they made that change. I put up with it, because I just don’t care enough to make the account and it only happens when the app is launched after closing it. But now, all the “live feeds” they have rolling are playing audio randomly while reading articles or attempting to watch videos on the app and once the audio starts there is no way to stop it but kill the app; even keeps playing when switching to another app. Honestly, not going to use the app until that gets fixed or they stop having live sessions. But while you’re at it with a fix, stop requesting a sign in every time the app opens or give me an option to turn that annoyance off.I’m about to delete this app
I’ve been reading IGN for probably the last 15 years. I love most of the podcasts and legacy personalities, but the site has become increasingly annoying. Casually spoiling details in games in the headlines…personalities on the podcasts treating spoilers like everyone has played the game, even though it just came out. Spoiler alert: your readers and listeners don’t have early access or free time to finish every game within a week of release. The app itself constantly crashes or sends you to an advertisement.
Now there is an article about how to cancel your gamepass subscription with no ability to comment. I hope we’ll be receiving similar articles for PlayStation and Nintendo shortly.
I don’t believe that IGN as a whole is biased, but there certainly are articles that slip throughCurrent version more buggy than usual
I have supported, and will continue support IGN until…well forever. In saying that, I will also criticize when it needs to be done. The current mobile app is atrocious. It is beyond slow, delays loading in imagining or articles/reviews/etc., and randomly will refresh itself and start you back to the most recent article. If you missed out on a day or two of news, at least on mobile, it is almost impossible to reread through everything as it’s so slow to load to get there, and before you ever do it’s already thrown you back up to the top of the most recent article. Of note, I have the most updated version and this is occurring both on and off WiFi and no difference for WiFi if 5 mbps (such as my work) or gigabit (such as at home).
