  • Broke and annoying

The app has a nice flow of reviews and updates in the game and tech world which is nice. But they have lately made the app annoying and broken with updates. The annoyances started some updates ago where every time the app opens it asks you to sign in; I don’t have and won’t make an account but that wasn’t an issue until they made that change. I put up with it, because I just don’t care enough to make the account and it only happens when the app is launched after closing it. But now, all the “live feeds” they have rolling are playing audio randomly while reading articles or attempting to watch videos on the app and once the audio starts there is no way to stop it but kill the app; even keeps playing when switching to another app. Honestly, not going to use the app until that gets fixed or they stop having live sessions. But while you’re at it with a fix, stop requesting a sign in every time the app opens or give me an option to turn that annoyance off.
  • I’m about to delete this app

I’ve been reading IGN for probably the last 15 years. I love most of the podcasts and legacy personalities, but the site has become increasingly annoying. Casually spoiling details in games in the headlines…personalities on the podcasts treating spoilers like everyone has played the game, even though it just came out. Spoiler alert: your readers and listeners don’t have early access or free time to finish every game within a week of release. The app itself constantly crashes or sends you to an advertisement.
Now there is an article about how to cancel your gamepass subscription with no ability to comment. I hope we’ll be receiving similar articles for PlayStation and Nintendo shortly.
I don’t believe that IGN as a whole is biased, but there certainly are articles that slip through
  • Current version more buggy than usual

I have supported, and will continue support IGN until…well forever. In saying that, I will also criticize when it needs to be done. The current mobile app is atrocious. It is beyond slow, delays loading in imagining or articles/reviews/etc., and randomly will refresh itself and start you back to the most recent article. If you missed out on a day or two of news, at least on mobile, it is almost impossible to reread through everything as it’s so slow to load to get there, and before you ever do it’s already thrown you back up to the top of the most recent article. Of note, I have the most updated version and this is occurring both on and off WiFi and no difference for WiFi if 5 mbps (such as my work) or gigabit (such as at home).
  • This app could use improvement for voiceover users

I have recently updated my iPhone and I’m now running iOS 16.5.1. I noticed that when signing into my account to deo this, I had to guess on where the Apple icon was. This is because the label in this app is not labeled so that voiceover users can tell where the Apple icon is. I had to have someone with vision, help me with this. I’m hoping that this will be fixed in a later update. Also, I’m not getting notifications about video games or other deals that I have selected. When I say deals, I actually mean news items. Not actual deals such as things that are on sale. Sorry for the confusion. I’m hoping that this all gets fixed and another update. I’m also wondering if the IGN app for AppleTV has been fixed since my last review.
  • This app could use improvement for voiceover users

I noticed that since updating to tvOS 16 that now IGN does not work at all. Whether voiceover is turned on or off. When loading the app, the app crashes. It tries to load but doesn’t. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled the app with no success. I have tried to get in contact with you twice on Twitter and both times I have been ignored. Wouldn’t you think that updating an iOS or tvOS would mean that you would have to update your app as well? What’s next? Do I need to get a hold of you on Facebook and bombard you there?
  • Will IGN ever be able to update the app and not create a new issue?

The answer is no. IGN updates their app to fix one issue and it always creates another. Whoever they have developing their app should find a new job since they obviously aren’t good at it.

Ads constantly popping up when you just try to scroll past them and it takes you to Safari. Keep getting asked to log in when I go to the comment section even through the app says I’m logged in when I look on the main screen. Downvote button is no longer there. Apparently you’re just supposed to only agree with other opinions now. IGN always making changes for the worse in regards to their app and community.
  • Years Later, No Improvement

Years later, this new app is still a huge backward step from the previous app and remains absolutely useless. Like the previous app, the game content on the website is all in one place and if I want to filter it by console, there it is—all content for that console in one place. In this new app, the “games” tab doesn’t include website parity. I then have to search for gameplay or trailers separately and, even then, trailers are all lumped together with TV, movies, etc. If filtering by console isn’t yet in the cards, GIVE US WEBSITE PARITY so all gaming news can at least be found in one place. I’ve gone back to using the website on my iPhone for years now waiting for these basic improvements.
  • Eats your data

I have an “unlimited” data plan. One day 1/2 into my billing cycle my 5G decided not to work. After calling in to troubleshoot the issue they informed me I was being throttled because I’ve used too much data. Impossible I told them, that’s not what I do…my wife, maybe but me…nope. I checked my usage info and saw that I used IGN almost for 50GBs. It continued to stream video in the background for days. The easy way to prevent this from happening is to toggle the refresh in the background switch in the app settings (iOS)…however out of every app on my phone IGN is one of only 4 apps that does not have this setting. Utterly ridiculous. Thank you IGN for having the worst designed app on my phone and screwing me over for the next 15 days. I hope I don’t get lost and need to use GPS to figure out where I am.
  • Battery issues

I have been a fan of this app for a long time, but recently I’ve been getting off of work and my phone will be completely dead, I used to have at least half of my battery left. Yesterday it happened again and I couldn’t get an Uber or Lyft home, waited for a bus for an hour only to find out the busses stop before 7pm and had to walk home in the rain. To say I was irritated would be a massive understatement. As soon as I got home I put my phone on the charger and when it turned on I went into settings and looked at my battery usage and it said that in the 6 hours since I used my phone last the IGN app had used 64% of my battery. I instantly deleted the app
  • Nothing against the company, all against the app

I’ve used this app for years now but it’s different than it once was. I can’t sign in to leave comments (no matter how many times I successfully sign in), I get kicked out from ads constantly without ever clicking on any (simply swiping over it when scrolling gets pops me out of the app to an ad), I’ve had some seriously messed up ads that were disturbing(only here, had one pop up back to back while scrolling that was just disgusting), and I’ve had multiple spoilers pop up in their captions that are supposedly spoiler free(guess this one’s actually on them, the rest are weird technical bugs that have ruined the experience for months now). Oh and the amount of ads has increased aggressively, making the issue where they pop you out even worse. I would’ve deleted it if I came up with a gaming news agency that I enjoyed at all.
