Built on solid foundations

I was using JWP on the PC decades ago, which incorporated the amazing EDICT electronic dictionary developed by Jim Breen of Monash University. Imiwa? is also built around the same dictionary and is therefore also excellent. In these times of always-on internet access, it’s so refreshing to have an offline language app like this. I just hope it gets updated again as it’s been dormant for a few years now.

Simply the best Japanese dictionary ever

Incredible well designed and comprehensive with everything from stroke orders to example sentences from various languages for context. A godsend for learning Japanese.

Nearly perfect

This app is great!! Customizable and uses a lot of languages for translation. I just wish it was possible to search kanjis by writing them with our fingers i stead of typing/radicals/SKIP since unknown kanjis can be tricky to decipher. Maybe also an overall possible translations feature in the analyzer tool?

I wish I could rate 6 stars

I’ve been using this app for 10 years now and it has always been an invaluable asset. The interface is clean and intuitive, I’ve never encountered any bugs, and it has every feature I’ve ever needed.

Love Copy Paste Function

As someone who is fluent in Japanese, I use this app to read kanji I don’t know or forgot to read. I love that you can copy text from a browser or book and the app automatically “pastes” it for you when you open it.

Skewed

It offers in detail definitions of unpleasant or derogatory words applicable to other peoples but white-wash what is unpleasant to the writers herein. That is, even when compared to other reference materials. Egregious.

So much fun!

I’ve been using this app since I started taking Japanese classes 5 years ago. I love how each word comes with example sentences and different readings! I used to read the example sentences and guess the translations as a fun way to learn new words. Also in the search bar it predicts other combinations using that particular kanji, including old sayings and metaphorical phrases. It’s been a solid tool in my language learning and I highly recommend to anyone who’s learning Japanese!

Extremely helpful

For a Japanese dictionary this app is probably the most helpful I have encountered. I especially like that it can guide you through the stroke order of Kanji. If you’re learning Japanese this is definitely a great app to have in the back pocket!

Best free Japanese study app available

I studied Japanese and passed N2, and this app has been an integral part of my study from early on, and I still use the app today after all these years.

The auto-lookup from the clipboard and searching every word is juuuust 👌

I actually “looked” throughout the app for a way to pay the developers money.

So developer, please add a way for people to make donations so grateful folks like myself can do so :)

🔥💎🚀

This Japanese dictionary is the best! I’ve been using it off and on for at least 8 years, it’s never failed. Whenever I wanted to know what a Japanese word meant, this never failed to deliver! Or if I wanted to know how to say something in Japanese, さすけね!
