best free japanese dictionary
what more can i say? it's the best free japanese dictionary app for iphone! Verb conjugation is super handy! I love how their kanji page is organized!
Amazingly comprehensive app
I can't believe it's free!!
Amazing app!
This is a truly excellent application with so many very useful features. Not only does if function as a very good Japanese-English dictionary, but you can also search for Kanji using a variety of methods. Also any verbs or adjectives you find can be shown in all of their various conjugations - very useful. There is a history and you can add words or kanji to your favourites list. Many words also have examples of common usage, although one minor criticism is that these have not always been fully checked, for example, the expression "ζγ¨γγ£γ½γ" is incorrectly transliterated to "Gatsu to suppon" when it should be "Tsuki to suppon". Other than this, an excellent app for free!

Very rich and easy to use
Basically Jim Breen's site put on a portable version, with multi-language support.
The author has done a tremendous job on the interface to make an extremely rich content intuitive to use and easy to access.
It proposes a very natural navigation between a rich word dictionary (verb conjugation included), example sentences, kanji dictionary (including a table to select multiple radicals one by one, and a clean, non-intrusive stroke-by-stroke illustration), and favorite/bookmark management. A smart and efficient context memorization lets you explore each aspect if/as you wish without losing your way. That is quite an achievement !
The Settings are included as a sub-menu inside the Settings menu of the device... so remember to go there at least to get rid of the languages you don't want to use, or the amount of information will just be excessive ;-)
It looks like the only dictionary I will need for a very long time. It easily beats many other non-free alternative out there.
I will encourage this guy (financially :-] ).

Fantastic
I'm not an active Japanese learner, although I took some classes a while ago. Most of what I use this app for is searching for kanji, which is, I think, one of the best parts of this app. I occasionally have trouble with the built-in handwriting recognition on the iPhone. The SKIP system built in to this app is awesome, and the multiradical search interface is very easy to use.
Great all around. Combines a variety of useful tools.

A++
If words come with pronouncing would be perfect
The best japanese app! (free)
If you are studying Japanese you gotta have this app!!
How could something so awesome be free?!
Everybody in my Japanese course with an iPhone/Touch- and I mean EVERYBODY, including one of the teachers (a 60yr old Japanese native) has this app, and we all adore it! It's virtually the beginning of the conversation when an iPhone is seen in class- "do you have it yet?!". Nobody even bothers bringing real dictionaries to class any more, because this easily fulfills the need for casual and quick looking up random words and kanji we come across. Maybe it can't deal with obscure or difficult words/kanji (I don't know, it hasn't failed me before), but for the average student, it works wonders.

Has earned its rightful place in my Top Four.
Full conjugation for all verbs and adjectives, thousands of example sentences and a great interface. A fantastically generous resource.
Best EVER Japanese dictionary Paid OR free. SO much more!
I have downloaded almost all the dictionary apps for japanese - both free and paid . WITHOUT A DOUBT - this is the best I have ever used. The author has done an immense amount of work in making the JMDICT accessible and the examples from the Tanaka corpus and the Tatoeba project are great for learners. I know of no other electronic dictionary that gives you so much more - like conjugation of verbs AND adjectives with options of Kanji, romaji, plain and masu forms.
If you are a learner of Japanese at ANY LEVEL - this will be immensely helpful.
PLEASE if you can - make a donation - this guy has done - and continues to do - a lot and we should encourage him!
