Perfect

Just awesome

Great for Japanese language

This app is amazing and I recommend it to anyone who has proficient to advanced capability in Japanese language. If your new to Japanese, itโ€™s going to take time until you start actually understanding the example sentences for certain vocabulary words. Before the enormous update for this app, it was kinda fuzzy though honestly.

Almost perfect

For a free program this dictionary is excellent, the only thing it lacks to be perfect (for me at least) is recognition of drawn kanji which is very useful when searching.
Iโ€™ve tried lots of similar dictionaries but this one is the only one Iโ€™ve kept over the years.

Best app for Japanese learners

UPDATE 11/21: Taking one star away since as of the new version, there are two really annoying bugs that make the app much harder to use. When viewing example sentences, only the first line of each translation is displayed until the example is scrolled past (vanishes from view). When you view the example again, the full translation is then visible. This workaround doesnโ€™t always work because not every example can be scrolled past. The other bug is that the search icon on the top right doesnโ€™t work sometimes when viewed from an entry. The magnifying glass overlaps with an โ€œXโ€ and stops working. Iโ€™m not sure how exactly to reproduce this but it happens often enough.

This is by far the best Japanese dictionary app that has ever graced the App Store, bar none. It's simple to use and extremely effective, allowing you to look up the definitions you need at lightning speed. The devs deserve a big thank you for keeping the app free all these years.

As of iOS 11, there are a few small bugs in the UI (eg the search icon on the top right didnโ€™t seem to work sometimes when viewed directly from a dictionary entry). Hopefully the devs can get that fixed as itโ€™s a bit annoying when youโ€™re looking up many words at a go and have to hit an extra key to go back each time.

Best Japanese app

I've downloaded so many Japanese apps over the years and this is the one I keep coming back to. Thank you so much for the recent updates! I was getting worries about what I would do if the app were no longer supported on iOS.

Invaluable

I use this application almost daily for my Japanese studies. Very comprehensive and the offline ability is perfect for when I'm reading on a commute etc.

Thank you for this resource.

Most helpful app

Been using this app way back when it used to be called kotoba. It helped me a lot while living in Japan and for my studies. Recommend it 100%.

The best!

No competition!

Love the update! ๐Ÿ˜

Been waiting for an update for this app for a long time, I am so happy it's ready for the new operating system! I'm not even in Japan anymore and I still use this app almost daily, it's definitely a staple on my phone. Thank you for everything!
