  • the best chinese dictionary

For my 3 month trip to China, I download this app instead of buying an expensive mobile translator. It was absolutely fantastic. The dictionary is expansive and has many colloquial words, and you can see/trace the characters. You can also create your own flashcards. For example, I created a flashcard group for each chapter in my Chinese textbook. Everyday on the subway I could study for my test by flipping through the flashcards. This eliminated the need for real flashcards...which would have taken up a ton of space. No internet needed either. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

  • Best Option for a Chinese-English-Chinese Dictionary

I have tried many of them and this is so far the best one I have come across. I will definitely upgrade to the audio version. The only thing that would make this better is if I could take pictures of text and have those be read for translation.
  • one big flaw

This Chinese dictionary, regardless of the rave reviews, has one major flaw, and it is a flaw of almost all Chinese dictionary apps--it's based on CE-CEDICT dictionary, and that underlying dictionary displays the old characters for many characters that have been simplified. Doesn't matter that you have set options on iPhone, or even for the specific app, to the official simplified character set of mainland China. Many of the old characters are displayed. It's very unfortunate that so many Chinese dictionaries take the cheap route and just use this CE-CEDICT.

  • Great apps

Best app ever. This is ad free which is a big plus. Comparable to hippodict which is ten dollars. Would happily pay five more dollars for pronounciation. Should add the online browsing too though. Btw, love love the flashcards
  • Good app

I think this is a really cool app and it has helped me study and makes it easy to find a word when doing home work
  • Fantastic

This app is great for learning chinese characters and pinyin. I use it all the time if I am stuck or want to quickly review. I have no complaints at all about this app
  • Terrific!

This is a wonderful application and works great with the audio (well worth getting). It's especially good if you're taking a Chinese class and want a way to input all your vocabulary and reinforce it with practice. The audio could still be further integrated, but this gets better with every upgrade.

  • Every Day Use

This is a great dictionary. Using the handwriting input keyboard is a fantastic way to translate characters you don't recognize or know how to pin yin. I use my iPhone + Dian Hua in class here in China every day as my one and only dictionary/translator. My Korean classmates all have expensive digital translators, while I simply use my phone. This app is good for the street, workplace, or in the classroom. By far the most useful app on my phone.

  • great app btw

oh sorry guys ... update on my last review... I mentioned downloading Qingwen on the app store and it being free... it is no longer free (when I downloaded it a long time ago, it WAS free) but yes Pleco is by far the BEST one on the app store!
  • Free? It's better than paid apps.

I used to use Pleco on WM. It cost around $150! Then I got an iPhone and got this for free! Wow. I have several others I paid for but I continue to use this one.

Would gladly pay for extra features like being able to create new words or custom dictinarys or phases that I can share with others.
