  • Awesome reference and Chinese-learing tool

Awesome app!!! Bought the audio-module just to support development. Combined with iPhone international keyboards, you can enter English, Pinyin, Chinese (via pinyin kbd) or draw characters. The most useful to me is entering two-syllable pinyin without tone after hearing a spoken word (e.g. lian xi). Adding tone (e.g. lian2) helps to restrict alternatives when looking up single chars. Bookmark to save words looked up (I create a folder per day), then review or use the flashcard feature to practice. The large display to trace characters is useful to show characters to others. Works off-line. Recommend setting Chinese char size to "giant" via settings.

  • Immensely useful

Use to find characters when you only know the pinyin, to find pinyin and English when you see a character you can't recognize (using iPhone's Chinese writing keyboard), etc. 3 dimensional usage has allowed me to eliminate need for the trusty old 小紅字典. Keep up the good work. Only concern is that no listing for this app appears when searching the app store for the term "Chinese".

  • Excellent!

As a Taiwanese-American who grew up in the states, I can speak mandarin fluently. But there are many times when I need to translate words like "tuberculosis" or "thymus" when speaking with my mandarin speaking friends. Also, I can barely read Chinese characters. However, I do know pinyin(a phonetic system using the English alphabet). Because this dictionary gives the pinyin as well as the characters, it's perfect for someone like myself.

  • excellent but cant do big numbers

I cant get chinese for numbers more than 1000. I can get Chinese for all numbers up to 1000. If I input for example 10,000 it goes back to home screen. Am i doing something wrong?
  • The Best Chinese Dictionary for the iPhone

I have been using this dictionary since it was first introduced months ago, along with a few others. With the recent changes including bookmarks, history, single search window, it is not the only dictionary I am using. I would suggest anyone wanting to improve their chinese language skills have a try, you cannot beat the price! Thank you JSQ for your work and free software. In Peace - HWS

  • Great!

This free version is good for brushing up on your characters or for the occasional perusing. However the $5 version comes with speech.. So I don't know. But for such a big database of Chinese words and characters, free is great!
  • A Perfect Chinese Dictionary

I've been a student of Chinese for 2 years and a computer programmer for 10 years... and in both senses, I absolutely love DianHua. It is intuitive and easy to use; it works quickly and smoothly. It provides all the features which one could want (practically, at least). Some day I'd love to see the ability to do speech recognition, but that's a pipe dream beyond the context of such an application :)

  • Best Dictionary ever

and i mean best. it has piyin, english definitions, traditional and simplified characters all under one (or two) clicks its sometimes even better than the book editions as they sometimes have unprecise english grammar
  • Excellent free app!

This turned my iPod into one if those expensive pocket translators, for free! I can look up both simplified and traditional charactors by writing them out, AND I don't need an Internet connection which makes it handy for me on the go. Great job!
  • Great and very handy

This is such a convienent and easy way to to look up words using my iPhone's internation keyboards not only am I able to look up pinyin but I can also draw the character and see the definition. This is a great app. I would definately recommend it. And it's free so what do you have to lose? If you don't like it delete it and you h e not lost anything.

My review is miss one star because frequently when I try to search something it reterns "no matches." and then to make sure I input 中 to see what it says and there are still "no matches" for the this important charcter. I don't know why it does that but it really does hinder my use of this app.
