  • Just plain fun

I just got back from a year in Japan where I took private koto lessons, so I guess I'm kind of partial to this, but it's a blast! Look into this before going and getting an ocarina!! The feature that let's you been the strings (and notes) is what makes it perfect. Could have been more aesthetically pleasing, if you want to be picky, though.

  • Great app

Thanks for the update! Love that you can tune to other scales and bend notes! Would also love to see a shamisen and shakuhachi app!
  • Version 2 is great!

Pitch Bending. 11 Scales. And you can turn off the opening. 3 memory locations. Version 2 is GREAT! Thanks for the update!
  • Just sublime!!!

The sounds are accurate and the instrument is unusual but addictive and captivating, it's true. Every one of my friends with an iPhone have immediately downloaded it after listening to just a few notes. You should not hesitate either. This app is a gift at $.99. I so dig it!!!
  • Love it!

It is true what they say in the reviews. I have to agree with a lot of people, that we should be able to adjust the strings, and have bends. I can't wait for the updates, perhaps you can enable an option to have cherry blossoms falling (with an option to set speed, number of blossoms, etc) while playing the koto.

  • Very relaxing, would be perfect if

It saves the performances and allows longer note when you hold the string longer. But maybe this instrument is designed for even notes...
  • Well worth it

Ever had something like a scene from an old Japanese samurai flick happen to you? Well iKoto is perfect for that situation. Any idiot can use it!
  • WOW!!!

Ummm, can you say "addicting"! This is the best music app. I have ever come across. You don't even have to know how to play and it still sounds beautiful. Just make it up as you go. It is really relaxing as well as fun to play with. Good job, hope to see an upgrade with more options.
  • What a Gorgeous App!

As a keyboardist myself...you do not need to know how to play this to make your own absolutely beautiful music. That is the wonder of this instrument. It has a lovely, fullbodied sound. It is calming and serene. You can record your own compositions or just listen to the pre-recorded ones offered. Kudos to the Dev.

  • OK for $.99, but...

I don't get it. So many reviews say "great samples!" but after listening with my own ears, they are quite noisy. Particularly when the notes fade out but before the end of the sample, the noise is extremely obvious - and worse - granular, as if recorded at a very low sample rate. Others rave that this instrument is much easier to play than PocketGuitar, but this is an apples/oranges comparison. PG requires two hands. So do REAL kotos. This app is a toy at best.

Suggestions: 1. Better samples with longer sustain and higher sample rates. 2. Keep the app tuned to a traditional Japanese scale, but offer the ability to transpose keys. 3. Add motion sensor support for expression control such as bends.

    And that's my take.
