  • Great application

For the price, I think this is the best app for this kind. I have been looking for comic reader for iTouch. This is very clean, simple and easy. The file transfer, after getting to know it, is easy to use. It remembers the zoom setting. I am glad I chose this app over the others.
  • It works great

Use the free diskaid and it'll be the most simple set up ever! Would loved cbr... So I'm deducting a star for the lack of cbr and the 2-5 sec lag when flipping pages. Def worth the money!!!
  • Works perfectly, but you MUST read the instructions...

Review written on March 10, 2009 If you don't use the documentation, you don't stand a chance of figuring it out on your own. I googled the program and author, and found that he'd written a very clear FAQ with instructions for both Windows and Mac users. Using these instructions, I was able to use the program, and it worked exactly as advertised. I would not recommend this utility for computer novices. But if you have a solid understanding of image-resizing and archiving, and the patience to read before playing, you will be rewarded with a solid app. I'm satisfied with the process, but if it was a little more friendly to novices, I'd have given it five stars. In a nutshell: 1) You must use a utility (I recommend Irfanview for XP users) to batch-resize all pages to a height of roughly 1000 pixels. 2) After resizing, you must compress each book to a ZIP file. 3) You must use a tiny piece of freeware (see the author's faq) to get the ZIP files onto your iPod/iPhone. Features I'd like to see: A) Currently, it appears that you can only add one comic book at a time. It would be very convenient to be able to transfer several at once. B) The PDF file provided by the author should be reformatted, and incorporated into the application itself. The customer should not have to hunt down the documentation. C) The "animation" toggle should off by default. It significantly hurts the performance of the reader.

  • Poorly thought out. Hopefully it gets updated

    1. Doesn't support common formats of cbz and cbr 2. Crashes frequently (I have yet to read an entire comic without this crashing after two pages) 3. No directory browsing on the downloading. 4. The flow is not thought out. Should be click on a comic with the options of reading, editing, managing instead of common elements turned into root menu options. 5. No warning messages for anything. Delete, etc . . . 6. No thumbnails. 7. When it did work there was considerable lag. I really wanted to like this product and I gave it a good run through. In essence it "does work" for low resolution comics but it's a poorly designed product. If I had to guess it was created by a comicbook fan with limited programming knowledge. When it comes down to it this is not a friendly product to use.

  • Okay but...

It does a good job of displaying your comics, but it really should come with it's own wifi transfer feature, rather than relying ok a 3rd person program like hfs.
  • Works well with limitations due to the iPhone/iTouch's inability to easily load files

So far, this is the only comic reader available and the functionality is a bit limited, but it's worth the price. Most of the instructions are PC, so to enable this on your Mac, do the following: 1. Go To System Preferences -> Sharing and check the box by "Web Sharing." 2. Write down the URL that appears under "Your Computer's Website:" it will probably be in the format "http://10.0.1.x", with the x being a unique IP number. If you know how to do so, I recommend creating a static IP for your Mac on your home network. 3. Go to the folder "Macintosh HD/Library/WebServer/Documents" 4. There are a lot of items in this folder, so I recommend creating a new folder called "comics" 5. Place the files you want to view on iComic in this folder 6. In iComic, start the application, select "Edit" and then "Add" 7. Type in the URL "http://10.0.1.x/comics/[your filename]" with the "x" being your unique IP number and [your filename] being the .cbz file you wish to load. It's much easier if you shorten the filenames of your .cbz files.

  • Great app, but not for the casual user

This application is fantastic when it comes to viewing comics. I've found it a pleasure to use. Where it falls down, though, is getting archives onto your iPod/iPhone. You need to host the application and specify the full server name, path, and filename of the comic you wish to download. You can simplify this process somewhat by following the author's instructions in creating and index text file. However I ended up writing a script to simplify the process of getting all my files into an index for downloading. If this doesn't put you off, buy this app. Its the best solution I've found yet for not only comics but also converted PDFs.

  • Works as described.

I was openning .cbr files and converting the files to PDFs for another app, but iComic reads the .cbr archives perfectly. I would like to give it a higher score but the transfer meathod to get files to your iPod/iPhone are not as graceful or simple as some other ebook style apps available. There are improvements to be made, but this is a great .99 spent!!! Thanks for the app and I hope to see an update on the transfer meathod sometime!

  • Works perfect

It works as described. Only crashed once. Please add password protection feature to the application.
I know there is a program that cuts the manga scan spread (2 connected pages) in half and renames the image files for you, maybe you could provide such feature on your application?
Directory/folder feature would be nice too.
Thank you for the app, おつかれさまでした。

  • A great start

For the price this is an amazing bit of kit that does what you want, uploading comics is fairly simple from a mac but involved renaming some files. it also doesn't do .cbr files yet (I think, .cbz worked fine), a bit sticky especially compared to what I have running on my nintendo DS, but the screen quality makes it a price worth paying, (Also the FAQ was dated 2009 so hopefully we'll be seeing some updates)
