  • Easy to use

This dictionary isn’t as complete as some, but it’s fast and easy to find most words. I highly recommend it for students of French.

  • Very good- could be better

I would love to see more slang. There are some verbs that are maddeningly without definitions only with their conjugations. Please find and fix. I use this app daily.

    Developer Response

Hello, We've added more slang which will be released in the coming update. We also added over 460 definitions for seldom used verbs that were missing in previous versions. Can you please email info@vidalingua.com, Attention Marc, to make sure the coming update is perfect? Marc Bolh, Founder Vidalingua
  • French dictionary: good, some suggestions for improving it

I have found your dictionary quite good, I seldom use my paper one any more.
I think the following change would improve it:
    — When defining a noun, you could also provide a few references to some related words. E.g. flaneur means idler or stroller; maybe add “see flanerie”; and I think there’s a related verb “flaner”? Just so one could investigate a little more. —

  • Great app

I teach at a French school and this app is great for looking up words really fast. You don't have to choose a language, just start typing and a list of matching French or English words appear. This list includes a few translations and you can tap on a word for complete information like gender and usage examples. Voila!

  • GREAT Dictionary App!

I have bought multiple versions of your app in a variety of languages that I study. I LOVE it! I have tried many apps — but I LOVE the consistent format you bring to these apps in the various languages. The BEST part — it is all beautifully linked. You type in the word you are looking for, and the app automatically finds definitions in whatever language you typed (without having to change the language, as most other apps require). Also, the VERB conjugations are wonderful! You look up a verb — click on "conjugate" in the upper right — and you instantly have access to ALL conjugations in all tenses of that verb. NO other app I have tried comes close to convenience for rapidity of verb conjugations (and I have tried MANY other apps). This dictionary is not as good for longer translations (I use another app for that ... ) — but for everything else, it is the best iphone/ipad app I have found for very fast and accurate translations and verb conjugation review. Thank you! NOTE #1 — The non-paid versions are inferior. But the adds go away and the dictionary greatly expands if you get the paid apps (well worth the money!). NOTE #2 — Someone mentioned they had trouble hearing the words. I did to until I shut off "Go on-line for better quality" — after which I heard the voices well. The "slow" speed is still a bit fast, but understandable.

  • Good for a dictionary 🇫🇷🇫🇷

I love this app; it has an extensive amount of vocabulary even without the upgrade. It offers great features like conjugation, pronunciation, and examples. It comes with common phrases as well which is awesome. HOWEVER there are some features that should be improved; you can't save or group any words to study for later, and the quiz feature is awful. It pulls random words that you can't select so there's no way to really prepare.

Overall this app is a great replacement for a dictionary but has the potential to be an even greater app if improved

  • Delightful app and great dev response

I have three Vidalingua apps and I love them all. I don't speak French, but I come across enough French words and phrases that I wanted a dictionary that would allow me to get around in those texts. Bonus points if I could find a dictionary that would pronounce the words for me so I could hear the words in my head in future. This one does the trick --and more. I can attach photos to dictionary entries, as well as audio clips and notes.

I love the fact that both languages appear together -- no need to swap languages to enter a word in one or the other languages.

I also love the ability to choose the version of audio pronunciation the user wants: Australian, UK, or US. Nifty!

Finally, the developer responded promptly and helpfully to my request for information on the app's privacy policy. I like the privacy policy (and wish developers would include those in description of app. But until they do, it's nice to find a responsive developer with a policy that's protective of the users' privacy.)

In sum: great app that's easy to use and that has lovely features that are unexpected in an app - especially at this price.

  • Fantastic app and great customer service!

I have had this app for at least 18 months and love it. I am learning French and it is my “go to” source for word meanings and conjugation. I attended language school in France last summer and impressed my fellow students with this wonderfully useful resource. When I returned from France, I must confess that I slacked off my French studies. When I opened it up a few days ago, I discovered that there was no sound. The pronunciation had been a key feature that I had relied on greatly. I emailed the company to ask about it, never dreaming that I would hear back. But I did in less than 24 hours! I was given a “fix” to get the French pronunciation until a final solution is found. I could not be happier. I am back at work on my French because I will be returning to France this fall!
