  • Love it

I love this app some of the stuff I do not know how to wear it. There is no tutorial on how to work things on it anyway I’m telling you I like it. I’ve been using it for years. I don’t expect or no if anyone is going to contact me back.

Hi mifoman1 and thank you for being a part of the StudioMini family all these years! We really appreciate your review and kind words. We are hard at work at making a series of content to help uncover all the fantastic things you can do with StudioMini. Look out for those to start showing up on our site otreus.com and on YouTube towards the end of summer. You can also always contact us at help@otreus.com with questions and feature requests, we'd love to hear from you!
  • I like it except for one key feature missing

This is a fun and extremely basic but intuitive little multitrack recorder that allows you to record up to four separate tracks, just like the old cassette four-trackers from the 80s. There are very few bells and whistles save for some on-board drum loops which I think are new to the app and they are very helpful for setting down a groove for adding your guitar tracks, bass, etc. tracks. The one key feature missing I mentioned in the review title is such an obvious feature for guitarists that I can't believe it's not been included in this most recent update and that is the ability to loop the tracks like a looper pedal so you can practice a lead solo or other part. I hope the developer can add looping on the next update because that would make this a solid five- star app for simple, quick recording and practicing without the complicated learning curve on other recording DAWs. It would be great to be able to flip a switch for the transport to loop instead of having to hit the play button again when it stops.

Hi Rick, I'm following up with an update: We've just released StudioMini 3.1, which includes our new Repeat Play feature. You can now repeat as you requested! StudioMIni 3.1 also includes Project Sorting, Localization enhancements (support for Greek), improved Offline Support, and bug fixes. Make sure to update and let us know what you think! ----- Previous reply: Hi Rick57 and thank you for the review. We couldn't be happier to hear that you find StudioMini easy to use! That's a core part of our philosophy around designing software - we aim to help without getting in the way of your creative flow. To give you pro quality without a steep learning curve, and solid software you can rely on that we hope you find a joy to use.

We've logged your feature request for Repeat. We'll be developing that feature soon, and I will follow up when I have news on when it will arrive. Thanks for buying and supporting indie software devs working to support their fellow musicians!
  • Bait and Switch

I have a bunch of recordings I made in StudioMini years ago. Now I find out that because I’ve updated the app I’m only able to use the app a few more times without paying a monthly fee.

When I originally purchased the app it was a perpetual license- by once, own forever. If I knew updating to the latest version would cripple the app I would not have updated.

Devs: you’re undermining your support. When people would ask me about recording on a mobile device I would drop the StudioMini name. Now, I’m going to tell them to avoid it. Smooth moves. I understand developers need to make money, but this isn’t the way.

Hello Uncoolcentral. Thank you for your candid reaction to our latest update. It's clear that you're not happy with some of the changes, and I assure you that we are not happy to see you unhappy! "Every user counts". That is a mantra for us, and we genuinely mean it. Before I get into a more detailed response, I want to invite you to reach out to us at help@otreus.com. We can have a longer discussion there and see if there's a way we can help make things right for you. We definitely don't want to lose you as a StudioMini user! We released StudioMini back in 2009, selling for a one-time fee of less than a coffee. StudioMini could (for the most part) do what would cost you hundreds of dollars in hardware, or a laptop with expensive DAW software. We were able to release many updates over the years, adding features and improvements, but over time it became harder and harder. Not because we didn't want to, but simply because it was no longer possible to fund the development - we just weren't making enough money to be able to continue. Throughout this we never stopped getting emails from users telling us how much they loved StudioMini, and asking for new features to be added. We were faced with challenging options - either give up on StudioMini entirely, i.e. let it die, or find another path forward that would allow us to finally modernize StudioMini and develop the features we so badly wanted to for our users. The only way this could be made possible was by changing the pricing to something more sustainable - something that better reflected the value StudioMini provides, and allows us to continue serving our users over time. There are some points I want to highlight, that I hope you will take into consideration. Regardless of what you choose to do however, StudioMini 3 now makes it very easy to export your Projects without needing a laptop. You can export all your Projects and WAV files to any storage connected through Apple's Files (Dropbox, Google Drive etc.). You don't have to be a paying customer to export, this is always available and free, your music will never be locked in. StudioMini 3 also now includes our all-time most requested features: Auto Punch, Bluetooth support, Panning, Loops speed control, Stereo recording with iPhone's built-in mics, as well as major improvements to Mixing, Sharing, Importing and Exporting. We hope you will consider continuing, and we look forward to hearing from you! We would love to hear more about how you use StudioMini, what improvements you would like to see, and hear more about your thoughts in general.
  • No longer mixes

My first purchased this app in 2017 and loved it. I've been trying to mix down some songs to upload to my computer and it no longer works. There is no way to get any help as their website isn't working at the time I wrote this. UPDATE: the company reached out to me to offer their assistance which is awesome.

  • I love this app!!

I downloaded this during covid when my flute ensemble couldn’t get together and would record three of the parts in our quartet pieces and then play along with that recording. It was the closest I could get to playing with my fellow flute players at the time.
The app is so simple to use. I tried this with more complicated apps and got so lost in trying to figure out how to work them I gave up. But this little gem is perfect. I hope they keep it going. I’d be more than happy to pay for it.

We will keep it going, that's a promise! 😄 Thank you for your review and kind words, we couldn't be more inspired reading them! 🙏
  • Doesn’t work with Bluetooth headphones

Doesn’t work with Bluetooth headphones. Pain to export files. Was a good program but sadly outdated at this point.
  • Vergemanlabs

I have recorded great songs using this app
  • Still my go to

I have been using this app since day 1 and continue to use this more often than any for quick ideas. I’m from the portastudio cassette days and this is the digital version. Keep it simple. Faster and easier than GarageBand. I’m also always surprised by quality I get just using the iPhone mic. And add drum loops, for 5 or 10$?! I paid 1k for a multitrack tape deck years ago!

    Developer Response

Thank you so much for the review 🙏 You're definitely highlighting some of the things we're most proud of!
  • It’s ok

Fun to use but every time I try to email a recording it says set up email and it won’t let my from my phone. I was under the impression that this can all be done be phone

    Developer Response

Hi! 👋 Thanks for the review! 🙏 You need to launch the built-in Mail app and make sure you have an email account set up there. Once you do that, StudioMini will detect it and you can email your mixes. You can also reach out to us anytime at help@otreus.com
  • Trash app.

Don’t see what gets people so excited about it. Limitations upon limitations....for the price of 5 dollars. There are free apps better than this for basic recording. I’m a professional media producer. I was made curious by all the positive reviews. Now, I’m feeling ripped off. Skip this and buy Multitrack DAW.
