Version History of Manchester Evening News

9.3.4

September 12, 2024

Yup, bug fix release. Pretty much all she wrote on this one, developers fiddled again and the app works a bit better. We promise there is better stuff coming, so do stay tuned for our release update lottery, Feature Release or Bug Fix? Who knows…

9.3.3

August 19, 2024

Another bug release and all the fixes are too small for the eye, or too incredibly boring to explain in human speech. Either way, work was carried out, developers fiddled and the app works a bit better.

9.3.2

July 18, 2024

A bit of a maintenance release, this one. Mostly stuff in the background that needs to be kept updated, all rather dull. Of course, any release wouldn’t be complete without the usual round of improvements and bug fixes, and we have included a bunch in here too. We have more in the pipeline, so stay tuned for a future update.

Welcome to a new update that contains some bug fixes, improves overall app stability and performance. Not much else to say really, but if you do find you are still having performance or stability issues, please use the In App feedback option to let us know what is going on.

9.2.6

May 22, 2024

We won’t beat around the bush, this release is all maintenance. Okay, okay, we know we said some cool new stuff was on the way, but we had some rather annoying intermittent bugs that have been affecting a small percentage of our users. Many of those issues should be improved in this release, however we are still working hard on a fix for some performance issues that a certain set of users are experiencing, which we hope to resolve in a future update. Please do let us know if you are still having any problems with instability or performance using the “Feedback” option in the app. The Reach PLC Apps Team

This shiny new update contains some bug fixes, improves overall app stability, and your experience while using the app. Yes we know, boring background stuff, but there is more in the pipeline and we continue to work hard on those, so check back for a future update to see what we have in store.

9.2.4

April 3, 2024

We have of course been tinkering in the background to make sure our app is functioning in tip top form, but this update is all about bringing back a highly requested feature. Yes, swiping articles is back! You can now open an article, swipe left and read the next article, or swipe again and again, there is no end to the swiping fun one can have, oh… and we even track your position in the home feed, so when you are done reading, we’ll put you right back in the feed at the last article you looked at, Nice! Stay tuned, as we have much more in the pipeline.

9.2.3

March 7, 2024

This update is mostly a bug fix release, just stuff we have tinkered with, and things we have adjusted, all of which are too boring to talk about, but, rest assured they will make your experience marginally better... every little helps as they say. Although, if you do love an account creation process, then we have done some UI/UX work to make those much slicker and those things you can see.

However, if you love to comment, we have done some UI work to tidy things up and those things you can see.

9.2.1

December 18, 2023

From time to time we release maintenance updates that fix some things and lay the foundations for things to come. This release is one of those “things” releases. We’ve also fixed a few crashes that were being reported when getting to the end of an article and when opening the app. Tune back in next year for some exciting updates, we think you are going to love them.

  • What a shame - very poor

The newspaper is very good but the App is extremely poor. The original App was great but this later App is a very sad reflection of it.
Adverts - I have no problem with adverts but this iteration of the App allows adverts to jump around making it very difficult to read as the wording of the article you are reading quickly disappears to a new location and you end up clicking on an advert.
Refreshing - the App doesn’t refresh very well, you have to quit it and launch it again to see if there are any new stories.
If all Apps were made like this none would ever be downloaded.
I’m very close to deleting it, if it wasn’t for my interest in the latest Utd news it would have been deleted a very long time ago.
This App needs redesigning as the current design is appalling. Please bring out a new App and abandon this design.

    Developer Response

Hi and thank you for your feedback, what you are describing is our mobile webpage experience, so it's possible you are viewing an article as a web view inside our app, this can happen sometimes when clicking a link in an article. We are looking at ways to handle those links better, but in the meantime we recommend staying in the apps native articles as much as possible for the best experience. To your second point, we have Pull To Refresh like most news apps, which you can do in the Home Feed and My News Feed. The Reach PLC Apps Team
  • Below Average

The content of this app is the average bit, however what drags it below average is the fact that every time you go back into the app, you have to reset your favourite topics, as the app has wiped anything you saved previously. I only go on to read around four different topics but you have to constantly reset them. Proper pain in the rear!

  • No more swiping between articles?!

So since you launched your “premium” subscription version of the app I lost the ability to swipe between articles nice and quickly. Now I have to read an article and go back to the main feed to read the next one. This is absolute common and best practice for any app and an unbelievable error in user experience.

All so you can accurately see how many articles a reader has viewed so you can limit them and choke them into paying a subscription.

I did pay for premium… and i still can’t swipe. Shocking.

    Developer Response

Hi and thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately article swiping is currently not supported in our new architecture, this is due to many technical reasons that would impact greatly on the user experience and performance of the app. We never say never of course, but at this moment in time it's not possible.
