  • Way too good to be free..

All those $0.99-$9.99 limited "Federal Rules" or "State Statute" apps? Forget 'em. Every statute, regulation and case in the country is included in Fastcase. My firm uses West's desktop product but we haven't paid for the upgrade to WestlawNext, so we don't have access to any mobile apps. Our state gives all lawyers free Fastcase access, and at a recent bar event the Fastcase rep mentioned this app. I wasn't expecting much, but it's quite full featured. Let's be honest- no one is going to do substantive research on their iPhone, but if you're reading cases for background or just looking something up on the go, Fastcase is freaking fantastic. It's clear, easy to use and provides excellent results-- and did I mention it's FREE? 5 stars, no question.

  • Better than Google for case law

I'm a third year student, and looking up cases with this tool is faster and much more concise than Googling or Lexis. If you need to mentally brief a case quickly and then move on, this free tool surpasses even subscription services. It's what you want, without wasting your time as other methods do.

  • Lifetime buyer!

Dude, if you make any more apps that are this thorough, complete, and are such a bargain, you just bought yourself a lifetime buyer of all your apps! Keep up all the good work!
p.s. Everyone who leaves one-star comments like "it's too slow" are only other app makers who want to shove this priceless gem off the Top 25 Free Apps list. Jerks.

  • Wow.......

Very impressive application! If you're an attorney who has a need for statutes or case law on the fly, this is definitely the application to have. Not only can you search nationwide case law and statutes, but it has a built-in citation checker to determine whether your case is still good law. It also has a "save" feature, which allows you to go back to commonly used statutes or cases in mere seconds. Get it now!

  • Quick 'n Easy Reference

As a detective, I'm frequently in the field. My iPhone is always with me. When cases become complex and there are inevitable gray areas, being able to inject some clarity by reviewing a statute/case has been invaluable. The search engine is quick and accurate and the ergonomics are better than average. This a fantastc tool that I would have paid for.

  • Free Legal Research?

I'm going to assume that those complaining about the app haven't had to pay as much as $300 per month for a desktop research database. Also, how could you complain about missing features? If it had the options you are requesting, no one would purchase the desktop version! I would probably pay $10 for this application if it wasn't free.

Five Stars for an essential attorney app.  I'll certainly be pitching it to my Blackberry friends when it's released for that OS.

  • Caselaw up to date

Very easy to find cases. Loads quickly and hypertext allows you to check other cases as you read the search results. Surprised to be able to find cases decided within the last week. I can do iphone research at counsel table while trying a case. Great app for any attorney.
  • The real deal

I am a Florida attorney with 35 years' experience conducting litigation and trials, and doing legal research in several federal and state jusrisdictions, including the United States Supreme Court. I have always been among the early technology adapters, and I can say without reservation that this app is wonderful! And as a recent retiree, the price is right for me!!
While Fastcase lacks a few of the bells and whistles of Westlaw and Lexis, it is far more useful than any of the other free legal research applications I have ever tried, and its availabliity on the iPhone makes it indispensible for litigators who need to check citations during a court argument (in courts where they are allowed to use it). It also makes a very useful tool for doing standard legal research in a law library.
Now if they could add voice input options and/or Apple would offer a real fold-up keyboard for the iPhone, it would be perfect. Also, it appears you must buy a desktop version to print in dual column format, which makes it ledss useable when working in a law library or another office. But these are minor issues versus the value of being able to find recent precedent on the go.
With the new iPad, I imagine this app will really sing and dance!

  • Lawyer's Courtroom friend and on the go!

I've used the desktop version of Fastcase. This is even better and in the palm of my hand. I already have my local statutes on my Iphone. Now, I can do my research for caselaw and statutes. If I'm in court or waiting in court. If something comes up last minute, it's right there. Very user friendly. Very impressed.

  • Superb

In my 2+ years as an iPhone owner (and frequent downloader of new apps), I have never written a single review. However, this app is so useful that I feel compelled to break that streak and write a positive review for Fastcase. The content, interface, and responsiveness of this app are simply outstanding. Given the outrageous cost of Westlaw and Lexis access, I'm amazed that this is a free app. Five BIG stars.
