Great app
I’ve used Memory Map for many years, both on PC and IOS. It is one of my most used apps and has served me well in reliability and features. Once the more detailed maps are purchased they remain on the device and do not require mobile or data coverage. As long as your device can pick up the GPS signal it works great. (I’ve never had a situation where I wasn’t able get GPS signals). I love this app, in fact I’d be lost without it!

Difficult to move to a new device
Bought a new iPad and of course set it up using the Apple way of transferring everything from the old one. Once I opened MM I had a hell of a time downloading and adding all my purchased maps. I still don’t have all of them in the MM app on the new iPad. An excruciatingly frustrating experience.
Good, reliable app
I use this for deer hunting. I have my deer stands marked and the trails around the property. I use it extensively for navigating through the woods. I rely on it.
just navigate
Memory maps does just what you want it to do. It does not try to get you to join social groups for competitive hiking.
I can get topo maps and nautical charts, and when I am crossing a bridge, I can switch to nautical and see the water depth!
You can set waypoints before a hike and save recorded tracks.

Memory maps
Had this map on my iPad from 2018 used it heaps and find it very useful on all tracks I have travelled on, may be better ones out there but this one has to date, last used 2 years ago , has done me well
Long time user both off road & marine
Basic moving map program for IOS device that enables at least some of the OziExplorer functionality on an IOS device. Takes a while to get used to but eventually you pick it up.
I was also fortunate some years ago to pick up a set of AusNZ marine raster charts, which seem not to be available via the digital shop, which I have found really helpful for route planning as ALL hazards are on the screen ALL the time, unlike vector charts, which have unexpected horrors emerge constantly unless you go through the very time consuming and in exact process of following whole route plan all the way zoomed right in.
It would be improved if you didn’t have to buy the same maps/charts separately (twice) to use on both IOS and PC devices.
Also, it would be hugely helpful if the Help files were available offline.

Laptop to iPad and Phone
Originally started using this software on my laptop many years ago, planning routes and using a gps to follow the route. Inevitably my gps started playing up and then last year I found that I could use the software via the app on my IPad and phone.
And it’s just brilliant, route planned on iPad, map used to navigate and then phone used to double check location when needed. It’s the best software upgrade I’ve done and I didn’t need to purchase an expensive GPS watch!!!

OS mapping on demand
Been using MM for years now, great on the PC for planning routes or just checking areas out, the web link to satellite images means you can do a local check without leaving the room.
On the move it’s much easier to manage than even a folded map in a case, and you can see exactly where you are on your route in those which way now situations.
Paper maps have their place and need to be handy just in case, but a map on your phone or small tablet is the way forward.

One of my most-used apps
I have used MM on a daily basis since the days of the iPhone 4. I love the fact that map data is stored in memory for offline use, but I still seem to have some issues transferring map data when upgrading to a new phone. Fortunately, waypoint data is saved separately because this is a huge advantage over other non-GPX mapping systems. I can add notes to waypoints and treat it as a mini GIS, although the ability to search on these notes in the phone is limited. I can however export the GPX file for separate analysis. The map licensing system is still suspect and I have lost access to so many useful paid-for maps after numerous iPhone and PC upgrades. I really should be able to have indefinite access to map data I have paid for!

Very happy with MemoryMap now……
I have used it for a very long time, and certainly struggled occasionally over many years.
Having just purchased the 1:50k & 1:25k package for England & Wales (2022), together with licences for all my current gadgets, I now find it highly successful.
I have also used the CAA charts to navigate a small aeroplane, and for this it scores highly for simplicity and ease of use when compared with other commercially available software.
It now deserves a five- star rating.
