Great update to a great app. Critical videos added to works are very informative. Looks nice on iPad air2. I've had this app since the original iPad. Enjoy it very much.
  • Art Authoritative

I have used this app since inception and have seen it evolve over that period it brings an easy and comprehensive view of masterpieces from the Renaissance to Banksy!
It organises this in a easy to search manner by era by Directory and highlights major works within each art period.
It is how art should be appreciated my only issue is that it crashes often on IOS when navigating from grid view to wall view.

    Highly recommended

  • Brilliant- almost perfect!

The app is truly wonderful, an informative, helpful portal into classical art and it's history. Two requests:
    1. Use the absolute highest resolution source images. Some of the images are either low resolution or contain distracting aliasing. If there are no better options for those, I would include a setting to filter out low quality images.
    2. Include more metadata if possible. One idea is image dimensions along with real dimensions.

  • Nice but could be great..

I've had this app since it was released for the iPad and although it provides a great deal of content, I've been waiting for years for the images to become hi res (as was originally promised). Various iPad models have come and gone but the resolution has never been improved so images look blurry full screen and the resolution doesn't come anywhere near taking advantage of my iPad Air.
It's a good app but it could be amazing. All you need to do is increase the resolution of the images!

  • Entertaining and informative

This is a terrific app. Enjoyable for random browsing. It also serves as useful reference. I recently used it to look up artists and paintings discussed in a novel I was reading.
  • Beautifully inspiring.

Art Authority is well worth the price! An art history book would cost 5 times this price and wouldn't have near the quantity of artwork you can view on this app. And, art history books weigh a ton. I was able to watch a shuffled slideshow of impressionists, view several paintings chronologically of an artist I wasn't familiar with and look him up in wikipedia with the tap of a button, while listening to my iPod music all in the comfort of my living room. A couple of the photos are pixelated, but the majority are beautiful. I'm looking forward to viewing more. I also found a list of photos that I can see up close at the museums near me. I like the layout of the app. It is very easy to use. Hope the developers keep adding to this app, but with 1000 artists and 50,000 pieces of art, I'm sure I'll keep busy for awhile.

Update: for those giving this a bad review because it won't update, it is an Apple problem with ios 6 that will be resolved. I promptly received an email with this answer when I wrote Art Authority.

  • Art Authority

The user interface can be a bit confusing, particularly when switching between different views, but it's an improvement on previous versions. Overall, this a very useful browsing app for discovering art works and artists, as well as genres and periods. It also includes summarised wikipedia pop-ups for artists.

  • Crashes

I agree with that other fella -- new version is very very crashy. Doesn't work. Pleas fix.

    Love,

  • Not Loading New content

It has not been able to load new content for 5 days and the Art Authority website is not working. Does anybody know what happened to them? I have given the app a high rating because of past experience but will reduce it if it does not start working soon.
  • Version 4.7.2

I have purchased Art Authority and am happy to report that the installation was a complete success on my iPad mini. I hope to find it very useful as I am reading Inferno by Dan Brown. There are numerous references to artwork in the book and Art Authority will make the reading even more enjoyable.
