  • Good app; incompetent support

I really like the concept. Unfortunately, the presentation of material leaves a lot to be desired. First of all, the app is not universal: in order to have it on the iPhone and iPad, you'll have to pay twice, and not a small amount. Greedy, just like many developers here, not willing to create a universal app.

I did purchase both nonetheless. Imagine my surprise when I found out that both apps will be installed on iPad: the one for iPad and the one for iPhone! Removing the iPhone version does not help: upon next sync it will be added again. So I contacted tech support. After many days of waiting, they finally informed me that the issue had something to do with digital identifier for each of the versions and that was it. No plans to correct anything, no apology, just deal with it. There was an update to the program since then and indeed, nothing has changed. I still have two versions on my iPad and my manually delete one of them after each sync.

Finally, there is a problem with offline use, such as in an airplane. Absolutely nothing is available without internet connection, not even a preview of collection or thumbnails for paintings. While putting all of the advertised 10 GB of data into an app would be obscene, making a portion of collection available for offline use would be a welcome change.

  • Great app except for one issue

This is an amazing app overall. It's worth the money, especially if you're into art, art history and an artist yourself. It's easy to use and find you're way around. Although it is a little slow when loading up images (due to the fact that there are thousands of them) it's not a big deal.
The only thing that makes this app a 4 star instead of a 5 is that the application will randomly quit when you're in the middle of looking at an image. I'm not sure if it's a glitch in the app or if it's the fact that the app is having trouble with the upload all the art.
In conclusion, this app is phenomenal and worth the cost.

  • Miraculous

So many picky reviews! I'm seventy, and I say this app is a darned miracle. Think about it, 40,000 paintings at your fingertips and immediate access to Wikipedia and museums around the world. Download is not slow. Once you have looked at a painting using wifi, it is archived in your iPad and you can look at all the archived paintings without wifi. The quality of the pictures is better than most of the art books I own. You can zoom in and see brushwork and tiny details. In fact, this app makes my art book collection seem puny. And all for $10. Go for it. I don't think you will be sorry.

  • Nice

Relies heavily on Wikipedia, but a lovely resource for casual browsing or a quick reference.
  • Super

Très intéressant pour découvrir les tableaux et leur concepteur.
Juste que je trouve des fois un peu la navigation un peu difficile.
  • Good buy

I have found most captions mention artist and work name and all link to wikipedia for info RE the artist. Higher than screen resolution images would also be nice to warrant zooming in on detail. I give 3 stars after a decent evaluation, hopefully content continues to be further developed and refined. Volume of images is great. Happy with my purchase and a great companion to literary sources.

  • Beautiful, elegant, educational

First of all, it hardly needs saying but the works contained in the app are stunning.

The app itself is also very elegant. Organized as though you've walked into a gallery. nice transitions, easy way to find more history if you're interested, and also lends to just browsing and roaming around.

Very impressed, not the cheapest app in the store but this will remain interesting and feed my mind when I need the inspiration of great artists. Much more comprehensive than other apps I've looked at.

  • Exceptional

This is an exceptional application. The layout is very intuitive and the information that can be discovered immense. My one (constructive) criticism is the clash in 'production' when we go to wikipedia which is not so lavish to the eye as Art Authority. This is a minor detail as the overall accomplishment is extraordinary.

  • First impression......

For me, I class this as an expensive app. However I am still happy that I purchased it as it is good and has a lot more potential in store. I would say that the graphics should be improved a bit to enhance this experience on the iPad. I would also like it if a little critique caption could accompany the pictures. I can't really complain about the speed TBH. Oh, and where is L.S. Lowery? Please add him.

I would like to come back and review this app again in a few months or so. I feel that if it could be tuned in here and there, it would fully deserve more stars and justify the price tag.
