  • AMAZING

this app is really good i think people should at least give it a chance before they give up and say it's not good and it sounds horrible it's NOT hard to set up for good sound. this app has a lot of different pedals and they sound great for a digital app. don't knock it till you try it seriously.
  • Rip off, no good, don't buy

I do not recommend this. If anything, buy AmpliTube 4 (or download the hacked torrent version for free). It's far better, AT4 Jimi Hendrix is spot on. The iOS Jimi is so far off it's not even funny. If you tweak it, you can get close, but still off. Another reason for the low score is them cheating me out of money. I had bough separate packs (Jimi, Fender, Orange) and waited to get my iRig HD2 because it gives you a serial for free AmpliTube on iOS. The registration worked for my computer, but not my iPhone, so, no free upgrade (that they promised, bad service indeed). So, I bought the $50 all in pack to get everything (or so I thought). No Mesa Boogie and no tons of pedals, or mics, or loopers...... So I paid $50 when I could have just paid $20 to upgrade two more packs. No refunds, no freebies for ripping me off. I will no longer recommend this to others, but I do recommend downloading AmpliTube 4 for free as a cracked torrent. Have a nice day!

  • Almost a good app

I downloaded the free version on my iPhone 6+. I was able to set up the app and use it with my guitar within just a few minutes. I was able to play the guitar through the phone just fine, but neither of the two stompboxes would change the sound, regardless of the settings.

I did find a couple of issues pretty quickly. First, when you purchase an upgrade, to get ALL of what you paid for, you have to register the software with the vendor. Otherwise you won't get the distortion pedal, which I suspect everyone will want. Second, you have to plug everything in to the bottom of the iPhone. This software only works in portrait mode, so you can't use an iPhone stand with this software unless you can read sideways.

This app is being deleted from my phone. Not a customer friendly company.

  • New Version May Work Better

Update: I reinstalled the app and the knob fuzziness cleared up.
I agree with another reviewer that the bass guitar sound is often muddy. It is sometimes a little distorted on the extreme low end, this could also be the iPhone limitations. I think it must lose something between the cabinet and the mic in their sample. Also it would be nice to bypass the cabinet and just use the head. It has a funny frequency in the bass sound that is hard to EQ out. I do like the Ultimate Tuner that's in the app but could care less for the drums and recorder for now. They should have put the effort in making it a great bass app before moving on to drums and recording. It might be good for professional use like some of the other apps I have for Bass Guitar. I just haven't tried it yet on stage.

  • Disappointing

Really disappointed. Went and bought the i-rig and was all excited to use it. Downloaded the free version with all intentions of buying the full version. I read all the reviews about crashing but I figured maybe they had old iPods or bad luck. Nope. I got it work for a bit and was very disappointed with the limited effects. Specifically distortion (which you dont get until you register). So I figured I'd try some of the add ons but you have to buy them even before you can try them (the other apps at least give a sample). But worst of all...I couldn't even purchase any because the app keeps crashing. So I tried to work with app but keeps crashing. Was mad that I spent 40 bucks on the i-rig but the good news is that it works with jamup and ampkit. So my advice? Pass on this one until they get it fixed.

  • Very Dissapointed (headphones issues) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since i bought the irig it only worked until i choosed the speaker option instead of the headphones. It has given me nothing but headaches! I asked for help from them and they were not able to help me fix the problem. I tried everything they told me to try and nothing worked-i even bought a second one. I also bought some of their apps hoping it would help and because i was excited to use them, but i wasn't even able to try them. They later said there was no way to get the headphones option back once you choose the speaker option the first time. And the last time i spoke to them they said my phone was the problem. I'm very dissapointed and feel like it was a waste of money and not to mention my time!!!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE!!!!

  • Great idea, needs work

Ironic that the app crashes when I try to browse "add gear" - Especially since there's a LOT of gouging with IK. IK COULD become my go-to for all my original music needs, BUT:
I bought Vocalive but there doesn't seem to be a way to incorporate the effects with other IK apps, and now they want me to buy the effects I already have via in-app to use them here. No AudioCopy/Audiopaste is a HUGE disappointment and an easy fix to the problem. I have iRig, iRig mic, and I'm registered with both Amplitube Free apps as well as having a couple of the percussion apps. I see no reason to buy the full Ampliutube versions since I'm only interested in a few effects, which I can buy separately and which are not included in the full versions anyway. The hardware is good quality and fair value, although iRig is proprietary (iRig works great with Amplitube and with a couple other apps but feeds back with many competitors. Peavey Link is not proprietary - it works on any modeling app - but it's a cheaper build, more bulky, and requires batteries). The software needs to be intra-compatible to be really useful.
For now I'll use Amps&Cabs and Riot FX for practice, FourTrack and MultiTrack DAW for recording, and Vocalive as a toy. Make IK work universally with other IK and I'll throw another hundred bucks their way tweaking my gear - but I'm not sinking another dollar into IK until they start showing repeat customers some love.
    ~D!

  • App's okay, mailing list not so hot...

So, I was thinking about getting the full version, thought I'd try the trial. They cleverly gate the distortion effect (sort of a big part of a guitar app) behind having to register for an account. I did. I went and checked their privacy settings and so on, made sure I wasn't signed up for any lists, and got my pedal. Then I got a promotional mailing from them. Sure, technically spam since I didn't sign up for it, but whatever, I'll just unsubscribe. Then I got another one a bit later. So... No, I'm not buying the full version, or buying any pedals from them. I am not okay with the "we will put you on a mailing list and not honor your unsubscribe" thing. Mailing lists need to be opt-in.

Sound's okay, I guess. The big win of the app is the tuner. I guess if you wanted all the specialized pedals and stuff, this would be pretty nice, but also quite expensive. (Not, mind you, compared to actual music hardware, but compared to competing apps.)

But yes, I really would rate a product lower because I don't enjoy dealing with the company. Their model is that you have to have an account with them to get pedals, and pedals cost money, so if you want to use this app, you're committing to a relationship with the company, and at that point, their bad mailing list management and support issues become a downside for the app as a whole.

  • Built to for up-selling, not functionality

I'm a big fan of Amplitube and other IK Multimedia products. They sound great and are easy to use. Unfortunately, IK Multimedia fell short with this app attempt. Although the included features are fair, the app is designed around ease-of-use of the offered feature set, but for selling additional items. Rather than offer an in-app market place, Amplitube simply shows you missing spaces and if you accidently touch them it informs you that you are about to make a purchase and asks you to confirm. For example, in the recording application you are offered a single track for recording. If you touch the space of the missing tracks you are only one click away from an accidental, and expensive, app purchase.

I was hoping this free version would inspire me to purchase Amplitube and provide a user friendly experience. Instead, it made me skeptical of any IK multimedia IOS offerings.

  • Absolutely amazing!

As a gigging guitar player with years of experience and having tried tons of gear on the market, I am absolutely blown away by Amplitube and the matching iRig interface!

I have been playing with the software and the interface for a couple of days on my iPhone 4 and second generation iPod and have gotten a tone with the free version I didn't think were possible. I will be trying with my girlfriends iPad and will more than likely upgrade to the full version soon.

This with a power amp and 4x12 cabinet may become my live setup..., we shall see soon enough!
