It's just okay ... not great

I would not pay more that $1.99 for this particular app. The graphics are nice and all, but that's about it.

My 5 year old played with it for about 10 minutes. I suspect he's done now.

My 2 year old can't play with it because the game is too unresponsive. When he's ready to drag .. he's ready to drag.

The iPad version is exactly the same as the iPhone version ... only bigger ... and orientation locked. My kids despise that (though they put up with it for elmo and veggie tales).

For what I paid for the app, they should be able to afford a focus group of kids 2-6 like they claim and watch them use it ... or more likely switch over and start "playing" with Photos. They can certainly improve this. The concept is good. I just don't think they field tested it enough. If they invest in improvements, I'll update my post here.

Minority Opinion

Despite the rave reviews, this app has major problems. First, the volume is set quite loud (at least on the iPhone 4)and there is no way to lower it; the volume controls are completely diasbled. Secondly, there is no way to save your your place; you must start each series from the first screen and there seems no way to get to a particular screen. Putting these choices in the program should be very simple and it is puzzling why they were left out.

The program itself should interest toddlers in the 30 month range, but four year olds have probably learned the concepts from Sesame street. OK for free, but certainly not worth $4.99.

Intro to Math

This may amuse some children and possibly frustrate others, either way it has very little to do with Montessori. In fact it ignores and even contravenes more of Montessori's basic principles than it promotes! Parents would be wise to explore Montessori's views on education before shelling out five bucks.

nice design

This app has a very sophisticated design, the content is quite good, but I do not particularly like that a child cannot skip the things he or she has already mastered and has to do everything all over again, which gets boring after a while. But otherwise it is pretty much fine.

Not fond of game

My 3 year old has trouble tracing the letters and I can't even do it when she asks for help it gets stuck. Too much explanation for youngsters.

Love it.

I have been wondering how some of the montessori-type educational theory would play out on an ipad and now i totally get it! Soothing on the eyes and ears, these activities hit a different chord than a lot of the math apps for kids I have downloaded so far, filling a gap and rounding out my math app collection nicely. More about getting a feel for the concept of numbers instead of memorizing the algorithms and winning a game. Daughter sticks w it and enjoys the variety of activities, I am glad each activity has at least a couple of levels.

I really really hope to see more advanced concepts from this developer, would buy them in a heartbeat as daughter is ready for more of a challenge.

Hey, developers: one improvement: my daughter has played quite a bit, has mastered some of the easier steps in each level, and usually gets bored doing what she already knows, then quits before getting to the harder part. For example, number counters - she is totally ready for the odd even tracing, but gets sick of placing all of the counters for every number up til that part of the activity. Can you make it possible to jump to the section of the activity that you want to play with? She is sick of repeating the easy stuff, could do it in her sleep...

The Future of Education is Here!

Interactive computing technology is going to increasingly beome a part of our day-to-day lives. This program not only furnishes children with a multi-modal introduction to numbers and countingβ€”it gives them some early computing experience as well.
I feel that this app is an excellent supplement to any form of classroom education.

Perfect Digital Education and Introduction to Numbers and Math

Thank you for making this work on both iPad and iPhone. My four year old and three year old just started using this tonight, and I must say that this is quite possibly the best number teaching tool I've ever used with my children.

There are a few things that could make it a bit better though - mostly bugs to fix.
- Some way to ignore accidental input, especially when moving the rods around. Bumping the screen with the wrist sometimes messes up the goal of the child.
- The odd/even lesson doesn't require the child to draw the line all the way down between the dots - they simply have to draw a mark near the center of the dots.
- Tracing in the sandpaper is decent, but having to start over exactly where the arrow helper is sometimes frustrating, especially if the tracing has simply skipped a little bit.

If you have a child and are thinking of purchasing this, don't let the problems above dissuade you. For $5 this is a steal. I'm really surprised this isn't $10 or more - it's really worth that much.

Nice and neat

My three years old daughter loves it. Even though they seem to be easy for her, but she still enjoys to play with it.

Great app for grandkids

My granddaughters have been using this app and seem to be learning a great deal while they are also entertained.
There are indeed layers in each "game" as is mentioned in the descriptions. It is so nice to have a "game" that is more simplistic in appearance, without so much constant "action", as are so many apps. And children totally enjoy the learning at the same time. I recommend it highly.
