  • Almost perfect!

For me, the Plex app is almost perfect. I am currently on a 30-day trial and I already know what crucial annoyances are going to stop me from going full (or even lifetime) subscriber.

    1. Their WebOS app is way behind the rest. For TV, you cannot use the guide, which makes the normal TV viewing pretty much impossible.

    2. Argh! The track list unavailability in FLAC. Brings back the memories when you had to fast forward a cassette tape to find your next track on the album, or go ahead and listen to the entire album. No easy way to go to a particular song (or even see it, as you will be just looking at the album),

    3. Problems with remote access cutting out in 2-3 seconds after enabling. It is super buggy and no amount of their troubleshooting worked for me.

These three issues are critical enough to dissuade me from upgrading and will be sticking with free version for now.

I know there are lots of people who want to make Plex their primary DVR/TV viewing app but can’t for the above mentioned (1) reason.

I know there are lot of audiophiles who wish to have Plex as their primary player/server but for the above mentioned reason (2) they just can’t.

I really hope devs take a note and address these crucial issues. I don’t know what else in this platform needs more urgent attention from the feature point of view - it has all the bells and whistles.

  • Beats emby

One of the best multi media Service I have ever used I’ve had Plex since 2016 and only a few times I’ve had issues with my network not being able to remote access outside my house but in the recent updates they have fixed this issue now I can watch my TV shows and movies anywhere in the world five stars highly recommended make sure your computer is running windows 10 because there is more better User interface for beginners and people they don’t know how to use multimedia servers

  • Media networking made very tiresome at the moment

As a visually impaired user of the IOS app, I am always having to use the app with Apples Voice Over text to speech running to be able to navigate around. This has been fantastic for those like me and those people who may have had to help out when possible in the past. However the latest version has not fixed the 3D Touch problem with voiceover turned on you cannot bring the controls up, which is quite annoying and now leaves me, and for the lack of a better word, blind. The other really irritating NEW thing is totally unresponsive playback controls, where the only way to get it to shut up is to manually close the app. When you do run it again and try to play something, you may now have two different things playing at once, this is probably the AI trying to make up for lost time and just cramming more in. Pretty please Plex team fix my miracle media machine.

  • All pretty good but Plex Connect could do with an update

Ok, I know Plex Connect is not actually part of Plex. But given that development on it has stopped the ‘Plex Team’ could and should take over the application and keep it in sync with the other awesome developments they have undertaken in the last year or so.
It would be very cool if Plex Connect recognised the user security for Plex ie quarantining MA and above content from young folk - just to mention one relatively simple enhancement. Adding stuff like Live TV would be awesome. Just saying.

  • Awesome app, but with a quirk

I use this app on my NAS, my iPad and my Roku media streamer, it works perfectly and pulls down artwork, episode information and extras. However, when I use it on my iPad on my network I need to cycle through offline mode and then back to online mode before it recognises my Plex Server, and when I am offline I have to cycle through online mode and then offline mode before it recognises any of my offline sync’d media. Also on my Roku it will sometimes buffer and start playing media as usual, then pause 5 seconds in, rebuffed and restart from the beginning and then it’s fine. So in summary it’s an awesome app but just needs a couple of quirks ironed out, nothing you can’t work around.

  • Updates Bring Confusion with Interface and Bugs

    Update:
This has been long time coming. Out of nowhere Plex decided to update the UI and it is absolutely awful! It is difficult to navigate and looks bad. My kids can't find things as easily as they used to. My wife prefers every other streaming app over this, but only since the update. The update isn't 'new' anymore, but each time I open the app I long for the old interface.

Additionally, they have introduced a new issue with offline content that happen a regularly. I take long flights for business and rely on Plex for my media to gete through. For whatever reason, when I'm in either airplane mode or connected to WiFi but have no internet connection, the app cannot see my sync'd data. It is infuriating to be stuck on a long haul flight and not be able to access data that is stored on the phone! I learned, after hours of boredom, quickly loading different libraries and the app eventually figures out it can read the data that is already there. It happens on my phone and iPad. Very frustrating.

    Fix the bugs.
    Rework the horrible interface.

This app used to be great.

    Old review:
Has a few glitches but the developers regularly update the application with feature enhancements and bug fixes. Easily worth $5.

  • Needs some TLC

I love Plex but the iOS app can use some more attention. I don’t allow my server to be exposed externally so I use the offline sync feature for when I’m away. Now, whenever I open the app it will start in offline mode like I left it before (I can see the big red banner) but it will attempt to connect to my server still. I’ll pick from the list of sources in the top left corner but it only shows my server as an option and it’s offline. To get around this, you have to open preferences and click the offline toggle 2 or 3 times usually before you can access your offline content. Another issue is that it frequently crashes when I pause the music with my headphones, I’ll unlock it and have to relaunch the app. It’s a good app, but not a great experience. I’ll be happy to rate it higher if the first issue will get fixed.

EDIT: new update, unfortunately worse in performance. Same issues stated above but now includes that for whatever reason if I pause my offline music or get a phone call, then go back to resume, the music just stops playing. Sometimes the scrubbing bar moves as if it is, sometimes not. But hitting the play/pause buttons don’t do anything so I must kill the song and play a different one. I really love Plex but this app is going downhill.

  • Long time happy user, nothing compares to the simplicity and power

I’ve been a plexpass member since it went live and was using the beta version for years before. I’ve got my family and friends all setup with their own Plex instances and access seamlessly to my library. All my media in one place, available instantly on every Apple TV in the house, every ones iPads and iPhones, in the car when on the road and remotely connected when staying with friends. Every new release unlocks a trove of new functionality, and bugs are fixed very quickly with a great and large user support base. Plex team is A1. Miss my emails from Barkley though

  • Plex is Great, App is deteriorating

I absolutely love Plex, have used it for years, have the lifetime pass etc. However, the iOS app is just getting worse. It has now started refusing to play music tracks that none of my other devices are struggling with and it has never failed to play them before (prompting me to write this review). The syncing process is not easy to be sure if it's working or not. The Offline mode which I really rely on, often isn't in offline mode when it says it is, and you have to switch it off and on again to get it to work. The "Most played in Month" feature seems to pick arbitrary months to display data for, no idea of the logic and I doubt the selections it shows too. Those are the things off the top of my head that annoy me on a regular basis. I will re-do this review of they fix the issues, I've no idea why it's so bad when Plex itself is so good. A big disappointment and a constant frustration. Only gets the second star because it works sometimes.

  • AirPod connection needs attention

After months of going back and forth, I finally took the plunge and paid full price for the Lifetime Plex Pass. I must say, i was immediately disappointed by the poor interfacing with my AirPods. In particular, if I pause the music by a double tap to my AirPod, and the phone goes to sleep before I want to restart the music, the app will not play music to the AirPods again without closing and rebooting the app. To be explicit, connectivity is not restored by a double tap of the AirPod when the phone is off, on but on the lock screen, on and logged into the phone but not on the app, or even when logged back into the phone with the app open. Furthermore, opening the app and pushing play will cause the progress bar to advance but there is still no music playing.

Please address this in a future update.

As another suggestion, there also needs to be a less clunky way to switch between online and offline browsing mode — maybe assume if no server is available default to offline mode?
