  • Great graphics & concept, lousy level design

I love the look and feel of this game, but after only a handful of the solo campaign levels I was getting really frustrated with the maps and level design - too often the best strategy is to do nothing and wait for the enemy to come at you, and some of the maps actually have impassible terrain between the players (so you can only hit the enemy if he obligingly moves into range) or terrain which so badly channels advances that it would be suicide to try to attack against anything smarter than the game's fairly limited AI.

This is a great idea for a game, but the scenario design really needs work.

  • Simple, fun, and addicting.

The simplicity of the hand-drawn graphics and sound effects make this game enjoyable. This is a game that can be picked up and played for just a few minutes, or lazily enjoyed for an afternoon. Also, the ability to create your own scenarios/battles keeps it fresh. A great adaptation of a classic past time.

  • I love this game

I never played this as a kid. We played a racing game using the same pencil technique (hint hint) where you had traps and dead ends for the racers to dodge. This game brought those memories back with a vengeance.

The game itself is simple but great fun once you start playing with others. My son and I are currently locked into a campaign where score is being kept on the fridge.

Obviously it needs more vehicles including boats, submarines, cruise missiles, anti aircraft guns etc. As it is it's a good, fun, simple game that keeps me coming back for more.

    Well done..

  • Awesome Update!

With the latest update, this game has gone from good to great! The addition of the single player campaign means i can hone my skills before taking them online, and are easy to jump into and out of on the go.

Controls are deceptively simple to learn and hard to master, loved playing it on paper as a kid, and this is about a faithful recreation as you can hope for. Plenty of options to tweak and pretty good AI.

Every free update the developer has released has been great, and shows dedication to making this the most complete package ever.

    Highly recommended!

  • Awesome

Really great game, I am instantly hooked. Ignore the negative comments about the controls - it's this very nuance that makes it stand out from the crowd.
  • Brings Back Fond Memories

Lead Wars represents how games were back then, before the advent of video games. Lead Wars perfectly replicates the games I wasted my youth on. For you young people, Lead Wars is the iconic turn based strategy game that is based on moving and shooting by flicking a pencil. Lead Wars captures the feelings of a lost youth.

Gameplay - Superb and Perfect. Turn based strategy game that offers a map editor, single player campaign, and multi-player. Flick the pencil to move and to shoot your enemies, simple and straight forward. A great tutorial to get you started is included, follow the instructions and you will get used to the gameplay quite quickly.

Sound - Ideal, especially with the perfect "ka-boom" that replicates the sound when your made while blowing up your enemy.

Control - I wasn't expecting this to be its strong point, flicking a pencil on a touch screen is hard to fathom, but it is PERFECT!

Graphics - Awesome, this replicates how the traditional game was once played. Hand-drawn figures and machinery.

Overall - PERFECT replication of a game that was once the "Command and Conqueror" of the days past. If you are like me and fondly remember this type of game, BUY IT! If you are a young-en that wants a solid turn based strategy game, look here. This is one of the iconic games that any strategist will love.

  • Great game but needs bluetooth

That says it all really, a great mix of strategy and skill, but really needs to be able to be played multiplayer out and about without needing internet. Get that sorted, and a complex single player campaign and this game would be unmissable.
  • Great concept but difficult controls

I feel like I wasted my AUD$2.49 on this one. I'm going to hang in there and hope that an update is released that makes the controls easier to use, however at present I simply couldn't get past lesson two of the tutorial. I tried for a long time but just couldn't do it. I'm a seasoned gamer but this one had me beat and I thought the idea of games on a touch screen interface is that they should be intuitive and easy to pick up/put down. Please, please, please make this easier. Oh, and can you also create a single player version? Wouldn't have purchased this at all had I known it was two player only.

  • Honest review

Okay so a lot of people moan about the controls. They are counter intuitive but they are also very easy to pick up. The game provides a really good tutorial on how to use them.

Once you have learnt the ways of the lead pencil the game is really good! Really nice turn by turn action.

    In short:
Controls are fine if you spend 2 min to learn them.
    Love the sounds
    Love the visuals
    Totally original
    Great turn by turn action.

    Keeping it on my iPad!

  • This game is great fun!

Aside from the slight learning curve, once you get the hang of it this game is a delight to play! I love that their is game center support especially when I get to play with my friend that lives 20 minutes away as I'm audio chatting with him on FaceTime! As far as the pace... It's slow... But not if you make some settings tweaks and make your own maps which is a huge plus! Overall this game becomes very addicting and is a lot of fun! I wonder how guys played this on paper?
