Was really happy with this app, the recipes looked really great, despite the limited websites that will load directly to it. I spent all day transferring all my recipes to it....now it just crashes all the time and wont stay open. What a waste of a day... Disappointed!

Simple, convenient, good-looking and free

This just what I was looking for and its great that it synchronises with the web version; makes putting your own recipes in easier.

For those who have issues with it not having metric measurements - the symbols for 'lbs' 'cups' and fractions are only there as shortcuts; you can still type in grammes, 'mm' or whatever you want for the ingredients using the keyboard and it will work.

High potential here

I wanted something to keep my own recipes in. Love it for this! Very clearly set out, easy on the eyes, not busy. Brilliant. It also needs a home page, I felt a bit lost. The shopping list is good, but can I suggest it be made more intuitive? I ticked the items I wanted to shop for but couldn't see how to refresh the list. Overall, I am stoked, it's a great app. I loved how easily my recipe can be put in, and how clearly it presents. Just a few tweaks and you will have an absolute winner here.

Very Happy :)

This app does everything it promises - thank you!!
A couple of extras if possible would be: option of pictures with the emailed recipes & the ability to have access to our database of recipes so that we can save them independently, in case we (or someone we are sharing our recipes with!!!) accidentally deletes a favourite.

Looks beautiful, great idea, works for me

The one star reviews are totally missing the point. I don't *want* to laboriously peck out recipes on my phone or iPad. I want to bash them in quickly on a proper computer. Do that with Pepperplate, and then not only to you have access to them in a great-looking app, but they're up there on the web, too - so you don't even need any of your own devices to consult them! If you really want to hack your recipes in using an iOS keyboard, you can log into the site and to it that way… [and with recent updates to the app, you can add recipes from iOS, anyway].

Both apps are clear, attractive and to the point - not wasting time and space on allowing you to do things like rate recipes or upload pictures (I know what food looks like, and unless I rate the recipe highly, why would I bother typing it in???) and the sync system works extremely well. If you're on a Mac you can use Fluid to generate a site-specific browser app for the site too... It's a great all-round solution, taking into account what people actually need.

For my money, easily the best recipe app available.

Has helped me get organized!

I'm far from an organized person but the chaos of live has prompted a change towards organization. The first place to start was meal planning, mainly dinner. Getting recipes was as simple as copying the web address and pasting it to pepperplate. Recipes can be organized into categories as well (breakfast, lunch, dinner etc). There is a shopping list function which also you to add a recipes ingredients; this is where i run into a problem. You should be able to select the recipe's ingredients that need to be added rather than all the ingredients going in. Often you will have some of these ingredients as a staple so you don't need to buy each time you prepare the recipe.
Otherwise, the planner is great to work with. When you
are in a recipe you have the ability to add to any day on the planner or you can manually type items into the planner. It is wonderful for everyone to know what to expect for dinner and not have to go to the supermarket daily.
Developers - kindly make adjustments to the shopping list category as described and this will be a 5+ star rated app!

Great but...

I very much like this app. Especially the "Cook Now" feature. Showing all the recipes for the meal and timers for each is a great feature and now I can't live without it and have switched to this app. It's only getting a Good rating because it does seem to crash a lot both on my iPad 2 and my iPhone 4S. Especially since the iOS 5.1 update. Also, I've had issues where you add recipes to the planner that you have changed the scale and one minute it shows it scaled and the next it doesn't. There still seem to be several bugs to work out. One feature I would like to see added is the ability to scale the recipe while in the Planner. I often have the number of guests changing and the only way I've found to update it is to delete the recipe from the planner and to add it again with the new scale. My only other suggestion is to have a dedicated support page/knowledge base. The FAQ's are great but sometime you need more. Thanks for a good product. I hope to see it become great soon!

Brilliant just what I have been waiting for. Great modern layout, easy to use, great for planning and organising. An amazing app!

Well-designed & wonderfully useful

Seems odd to moan about a (free) app that expects you to do a little work to import your recipes; do users expect them to magically appear by thought control? The bookmarklet is brilliant, manual input is quick & easy. Being able to centralise recipes offline via the app is fantastic!

Easy to use, minor issues

I am a recipe collector, I have several recipe apps on my iPad and downloaded this one because it will work with iPad, iPhone and the web. This app is quite good, it's very easy to import or add recipes manually. The ability to set up the categories is also a plus--the app also will sort by title, last updated and category. (Although, the ability to delete them would be nice.)

The issues I have run into is that the app and the web site don't always sync. I find it takes quite a few tries to get the two to sync (currently, I'm waiting for almost a week's worth of recipes to show up on my iPad and it has been "downloading" for almost an hour. The option of deleting categories would also be useful, in the early days of the sync, the iPad app added a duplicate category and this doesn't show up on the website, so, obviously, something with the sync isn't working.
