  • Great update! But...

I'm so happy that this app finally supports iPad Pro resolution. However, for some reason, split view doesn't work. It is strange, because all the other apps that support iPad Pro resolution also support split view, so I thought this app would support it, too. Maybe it will come with the next update? Also, it would be great if the developer also update Ancient Greek app, which I use a lot, too (I'm a classics major, so I use them everyday).

  • Amazing wealth of useful tools

I am independently learning to read Latin (via Wheelock) and I use SPQR daily. The flashcard capabilities alone are worth twice the price. I have a set for each chapter of my textbook and they have helped more than anything else. They can also be set to self-generate at random from any of the literary works contained within the app (you specify how many cards you want to create and the app does the rest). This is really useful to prepare yourself once you get to the point where you want to try and work your way through some of the books on your own. I could go on about the flashcards, but there is so much more to this app. I bought it on a whim and it has become my most used app. If you are now learning or just brushing up on Latin, SPQR is truly an indispensable tool(s!). If you already know Latin, there are enough goodies here to keep you interested for years. Amazing app.

  • An Invaluable Tool for Latin Learners

Excellent app for Latin learners. I'm an adult learner of Latin and this app has become an absolute essential tool to help me with my Latin studies. I use the tool so often that it's on my iPhone and iPad home screens.

Besides a dictionary, it also provides a very useful (in my opinion the must useful) parser tool.

Besides the dictionary and parser tools, SPQR has a warmth of other Latin language and cultural resources, including many Latin language books by classical, medieval, and neo-Latin authors.

I highly recommend this app...it's well with the price and will become an invaluable tool for you as a Latin student!

  • No professional academician should be without it, IMO.

I have been teaching Latin 1 for seven years. This app has transformed my class. It has made this woolen-jowled barbarian into a nearly adequate teacher! Learning progress is more rapid with it, and (more importantly) students gain the ability to distinguish good resources from bad "resources" (Google translate, AKA Da Da Poetry generator). Especially good for fostering STUDENT DRIVEN learning.

  • Very Good

A very fine app, which does four things very well. 1. It provides many major texts. 2. For any given word in a text, it allows you to click to find the definition and to parse. 3. It provides full access to Lewis and Short, the best Latin-English lexicon available, with the exception of the Oxford Latin Dictionary. 4. It allows you to construct flash cards, even directly from any word whose definition you've looked up.

The only major drawback is the paucity of texts. It would be very nice to have Cicero's more philosophical texts, such as de Natura Deorum.

  • Well designed app. Very useful for Beginners in Latin

I am a novice in the study of Latin language, and one of my major concern is how to distinguish the case/tense of the words that I encounter. The Parser under the dictionary prove to be really helpful, although it doesn't always give you a definitive answer, which means that sometimes you have to refer to the text to know the properties of the words. Regardless, this is a well designed app with friendly interface and easy-to-navigate features. Strongly Recommended.

  • Best There Is

This is far and away the best Latin app that can be bought. It includes so much helpful information beyond just the ordinary dictionary. The quiz feature, readings, translations all make it fantastic. My only small fault with it is I wish there was more functionality when it came to the flash card portion. I used other flash card apps before this one and I wish this one had more ways to edit, add or adjust decks along with more ways to learn the words. But overall a fantastic app. I use it every day at school.

  • Great for class

I got this app after hearing about it in my college latin class, and I love using this! I find the dictionary parser helpful (most of the time) and love using the readings. My class is currently reading Ceasar's Bellum Gallicum, and when I found out this app includes the latin and English translation of this book and many others, I went nuts! The translations are not perfect, but help get the gist of what is going on in the reading. I also love that the app can make vocab cards from the readings...awesome! I use it nearly everyday!

  • Good with surprising flaw

I wish this was available when I was taking Latin. It's the best Latin teaching program that I've seen. But I find one problem especially annoying. I can't get rid of the content panel when I'm in portrait mode. There's a button you can press to hide the panel. But when you press it nothing happens. It tells you that the panel is invisible, when, in fact, it's not. Press it again and it tells you it's visible, but that's no news because the panel never went away to begin with. So I couldn't give it a five-star rating. Hope this gets fixed soon.

  • so many features!

this app is fantastic and as said elsewhere is probably the best latin app currently on the market, and its well worth the price. it has so many features and capabilities built into it and the parser is extremely useful.

the only thing is that, in my opinion, the app is in dire need of a makeover. mostly aesthetically and a bit in regards to navigation, but really just in general i think it could greatly benefit from some polishing. that being said, i usually am quite vain and picky and will not want to use apps that arent pretty and polished, but this one is just too awesome and useful, i would be a fool to not take advantage of its many offers.
