  • Pretty Good

I LOVE Latin and have been studying it for seven years. This app has really helped with the finer points of grammar, such as (aliquis vs ullus).
However, the navigation is lacking, with no ability to bookmark, the dictionary won't recognize certain forms of nous — requiring the reader to already be familiar with the word, like pecus-pecudis relative to genus-generis — and the 'look-up' function is convoluted and can't recognize certain homophones.
Also, the dictionary needs to mark all long vowels and not every other short vowel. This is not so much of a problem for me, but makes it difficult for students to translate into Latin.

  • Latin/English literature

I absolutely love this app. I'm in my final semester of Latin at TU, having spent eighth grade and all four years of highschool with the language. SPQR offers an array of excellent tools for the Latin student, including flash cards, grammar quizzes and a large collection of Roman literature in English and Latin. My only complaint is that the English version of Ovid's Metamorphoses is totally useless for a student, it's a very unfaithful translation, meaning it's impossible to check your work by. I haven't checked any other English translations on the app, and still use it on a nearly daily basis for class!

  • Nearly everything I could ask for in a Latin app

This app has nearly everything I could ask for in a Latin app, a great improvement in the apps that have preceded it. One feature request: an easy facility to add words (while in dictionary entries) to word lists for later review; maybe a way to take such a list and generate flash cards.
  • Incredible App For Students of Latin

Having dozens of authors and hundreds of literary works at your fingertips is amazing.

Whether you're translating something for a class or just brushing up on your classics, this app is for you. The integrated dictionary is good for a quick ares or look up. The flashcards are good for those who have a test coming up.

Whatever your reason for reading Latin, this app will prove invaluable.

  • Best Latin App. No question about it.

As a student of Latin in the modern age where one doesn't wish to carry around many books and dictionaries to study SPQR stands out as the most important tool available!!! Not only is there an excellent dictionary with the ability to help students parse declined nouns and conjugated verbs but there are so many other features that must be appreciated including: grammar books, Latin classical authors, and flashcards just to name a few features. All of this at a very reasonable price.

This (and several other) unbelievable app(s) are the brainchild of Paul Hudson. We who use his app quickly realize that we all owe him our gratitude. If you are studying Latin and don't yet have this app: Stop everything you are doing and get it!!!!!!!

  • Great deal

I love this app. As a classics grad student having the entire Lewis and Short dictionary on my phone is a lifesaver. Though I haven't used the grammar quizzes in a while, they were a huge help when I was still learning the basics of the language as well. I would highly recommend this app to any student of Latin.

  • So Much for So Little !!

I agree with other reviewer, there is a lot in this app, & i got it when it first came out & have been really pleased to see it improved along the way- easier to navigate & better lay out w/ more info to access - not just little bug fixes along the way.
I only took Latin in grammar & high school, years ago, but wanted to re-learn again - A Little ! But didn't know where or how to start, this was perfect !
So it depends on what u are looking for; this is not the beginning & end to latin for $5. But it is at least the beginning to middle & lots of doors to open & close, to decide what & how much 'Latin' u are looking for ! ( revised ) there is more vocab. !

  • Great App

This app is amazing. It has tons of stuff to help me practice and learn the language and history of Latin. There is literally weeks' worth of reading on hereIt could use a few changes though. Like what the person before me said, the dictionary can be pretty confusing, especially the L&S one since it has tons of words and stuff all crowded together in each definition. The dictionaries, although helpful, can be pretty restrictive in searches, in ways like sometimes you can only look up the first principle part, and no other form of a word. Also, I really like the flashcards, but I wish there was a way to also review English to Latin with them too besides making a whole new deck with the words reversed. And also I would like it If I could make my own completely custom tests to practice things like declensions and stuff. This app is otherwise awesome. Every student or teacher of Latin should definitely get this app.

  • Old translations.

This is a very well thought out app and an excellent tool. The issue I have is that the translations I've looked at look like they're a century old or older. I've taken three years of college Latin, and our goal was to translate into grammatically correct, modern English. We created modern English translations that made sense to modern English readers. The time should have been taken to find a modern translation if not create one. That being said, it is a wonderful tool for any Latin student. I would personally work through the original texts instead of using the translations provided.

  • Amazing.

The new update made my jaw drop. The only thing that could make this app better now is if the author continues to update pictures and texts. I'd personally like to see some later texts added fro. The medieval period and beyond. History of the King's of Britain and Utopia are two that specifically come to mind...

A full screen feature for the texts would also be appreciated.

Thank you for keeping Latin alive and relevant!
