  • Very Good App — a couple of features would make it awesome

This app offers a very nice package of Latin resources, which work as advertised. It's got a better collection of resources than any other Latin app I've seen on the App Store.

There are just a few more features, however, which would put it over the top:

    (1) A word-analysis tool – something like the Latin morphological analysis on Perseus, or just the Whitaker's Words program available on the web; put in a form and the tool tells you what it could possibly be — for nouns, which number and case; for verbs, which tense, person, number, mood, voice, etc.
    (2) If you have the word-analysis tool, you could also search for inflected forms in the dictionary — so you wouldn't have to figure out the root in order to find the vocabulary
    (3) Last, this would also let you highlight a word in one of the included texts and do an immediate dictionary lookup for it, which would be very helpful to students, instead of flipping back and forth between text and dictionary.

  • Poorly implemented

I have a complete review published online, but here are a few major issues (at the time of writing) everyone should be aware of: the dictionaries are not integrated with the reader part of the app; no bookmarks, you must physically scroll down to get to where they were; the translations are not line by line, if one clicks on the "Translate" button the program displays the very beginning of the section; the Latin texts used for the app are substandard. Not worth the money, in my opinion, if you want a reader app with major Latin texts preloaded. If you need a dictionary, there are cheaper apps.

  • Great and informative app!

This app is perfect for me to keep up on my Latin. I often read and having it on my ipod is better than carrying a dictionary around all the time.
Just one small thing I would like to point out, for those who have no previous knowledge of the language: the majority of words that begin with U (for example, in the quotes "ueritas uos liberabit" and "ueni uidi uici") they are actually supposed to be V's (therefore, "veritas vos liberabit" etc etc.) Just wanted to clear that up in case anyone was thinking of getting a tattoo ;) other than that, it's great! Very accurate. However, I agree that bookmarks and providing more forms of the words would make this 5 stars.

  • Vade Mecum for Latinists

I see two real uses for this app. One as a reader and two as a dictionary. The reader portion of this app has a various selection of books in Latin and their English translation but the functionality is so poor I can't see any benefit from it. For example in the History section, some of the passages are so long that you have to scroll down for a long time before you get to the end if you are on iPhone. If you lose your place or quit the app you have start all over again. When you click on the switch to the English version you lose your place. Very annoying. I wish at least the books had at least the functionality of a decent e-reader like bookmarks, skipping to chapters, page turnings or whatnot.

The Lewis and Short app in here is a fine addition but the words are so cluttered up it's uncomfortable to use. There is another dictionary Whitaker Words that is easier on the eyes, seems to be simpler than L&S. Also I wish the app loading time wasn't so long so the transition would be more convenient.
