  • Drop VoxJust a note, I tried to use Drop Vox and Drop Text simultaneously this morning. As soon as

I just installed the Drop Vox app last night. I tested it and it seems to work really good.
Just a note. I need to take meeting minutes this morning. I tried to use Drop Vox and Drop Text simultaneously this mroning. As soon as I launched Drop Text, the Drop Vox recorder quit recording, however, it did not give the stop tone and when I returned to the recorder, it still indicated that it was recording. When I tapped th stop recording button, I then got the double stop tone. I recommend that future versions allow for simultaneous recording and note taking in the 2 complimentary apps. If this is not technically possible, I recommend a warning or other notification alerting the user that the recorder has stopped.I wish to take minutes and the simultaneous use of these apps would be great.

  • Does one thing and does it extremely well

This app records audio and uploads to your Dropbox folder when done. That's it. But this one thing has made it much easier for me to manage voice memos, and this app does that one thing extremely well. Gone are the days when I had to muddle about syncing with iTunes to get my voice memos off the device. One feature that might be useful though is a listing of the voice memos in the Dropbox folder, maybe even with a cache to access them offline. Still, this is a 5-star app even without that.

  • Does upload but needs to work seamlessly with Dragon Dictate

I like this app. It's simple and versatile. The recording quality on my 3GS is excellent and the ability to start recording when the app opens and have it run in the background is very useful. Recording in the background works fine on my 3GS, so it should work fine on any multi-tasking iPhone. Connected via WiFi, the recordings upload to Dropbox on my iMac within seconds.

Those who claim it loses recordings if you're not connected to Dropbox servers via cellular or WiFi when recording are wrong. It saves the recordings to Dropbox on your iPhone and even adds a badge with the number of the recordings being held. Later, when you have an Internet connection, simply open Dropvox and it'll automatically upload the files for you. It's one extra step, but not that much trouble.

I almost gave it four stars rather than five under the assumption that another poster is right, that Dragon Speech Dictate can't import the m4a files it creates. That's important because that's the primary reason I got Dropvox. But maybe I'm being unfair. Maybe it's Dragon Speech Dictate at $200 that should import m4a rather than insist that this little $2 app support an aging format like mp3. According to what I've read, m4a gives better quality sound with smaller files, so i's Dragon Speech who needs to add a feature.

  • Love It!

So much more convenient for me than sing the built in voice recorder on my iPhone. Now I can quickly note my ideas, etc. and have then waiting for me each morning at my desk where I can easily transcribe them. Would like naming options, but it's not a necessity and I bet it will be coming anyway.
  • Lost all my voice memos!!!

So the idea for this app is nice but in practice it has a FATAL flaw... I can't access my voice memos in the app. When the app works as advertised it's fine... but when something goes wrong... and the memos you record do not sync... there is no way to retrieve them. I lost a couple weeks of voice memos with no way to get them back. I contacted the developers but they said there was nothing they could do and they didn't have plans to add the ability to organize and access the memos. So I have to move on to a different app...

  • No Internet Means Lost Recordings

Update: Unfortunately I have to down rank this, as it has a rather fatal flaw. If you are lacking a sufficient internet connection at the time that a recording stops, your recording goes into oblivion. You get an error message, and it makes no attempt to re-upload the file once you have a connection. This is a severe problem, and it has caused me to lose critical conversations entirely.

Like the app. Please add support (if possible) for not showing the glowing red bar whenever recording is taking place. If that's not doable, can you please make it so that it doesn't say "recording" in the bar on the iPad?

  • Note to self: perfect voice memos 

This app is nearly perfect--it can be set to start recording on launch, and automagically saves your voice memos to dropbox. I use it to take down notes when driving in the car, like if I hear something on the radio I want to remember. I can easily review and transcribe the notes later at my computer. This was laborious with the built-in voice recorder I was using before.

  • Simple, almost perfect

For my needs -- recording on-street interviews and getting them back to my radio station fast -- this just couldn't be easier. Push the red button to record, push Stop when you're done, and that's it, the file is on its way.

It's slightly bothersome that you can't name the file, that it's just a bunch of numbers, but I'm glad to put up with that with everything else about this app just being so simple and reliable. I'm sure this will be addressed in an upgrade, along with options for higher recording quality (not to criticize the current sound quality -- it's just fine for spoken word work).

  • Brilliant!

What a brilliant idea, with a brilliantly simple execution! I love it.

This app has improved my audio diary ten-fold. Every file uploads to Dropbox immediately (as long as I'm in a WiFi zone), and that's a great assurance that I won't lose any information. Within seconds, each voice file shows up on my computer (if it's turned on, of course). And within minutes the voice files are further backed up on my Carbonite account. I was camping last weekend, and just because I sat briefly on the steps of a WiFi-enabled convenience store, my voice files were (within minutes) stored on Dropbox, my computer, and Carbonite.

It might not be for everybody (e.g. the file names are time-date stamps only), but it's definitely for ME. Also, excellent recording quality. (An earlier version used a lower bit rate, which made the audio quality not so good. But that's been worked out.) Another great feature (maybe just for ME, again) is the BIG RED BUTTON. I love the simplicity of it.

  • Good start. Needs playback and labels

This app does two things: records a sound clip and uploads it to drop box. Does this well.

But then you have this random file with no context in your dropbox. Need some way of labeling or naming the file.

Also, at minimum needs to be able to play back the clip you just recorded. (Though it would be nice if you could also play back any m4a's in the folder)
