  • Fantastic

I first got this game for my Dad's Mac, back in the 90's. It was ahead of it's time then, and still holds the original appeal.
I haven't bothered with any of the upgrades, after reading other reports that they cause problems, but don't think I need them anyway.
Took some getting used to playing on the touch screen, but the earlier levels allow the learning curve.
Love the game, and highly recommend it.

  • True to the original - a classic!

I was a Marathon fan through all three episodes, as well as enjoying some of the better third party scenarios - and this captures the feel of the original perfectly! I didn't buy the HD version, just because I love that "retro" feel.... but I would happily pay for net-play.

If you don't know anything about Marathon - well, it just rocks! Fantastic storyline, great gameplay (even by today's standards), atmospheric and perfectly crafted. The fact that I'm enjoying playing it again after all these years says it all.....

Finally, PLEASE port "Durandel" and "Infinity" to the iPad some time soon.

  • Marathon Rules!!!

I used to play this on my quadra 605 back in the day it was cool then and it hasn't changed it's still cool!
  • Excellent

Excellent port of an excellent game. Compares well in gameplay to Halo, metroid prime.. Though not in graphics of course. Great for the developer to just give this away.
I feel like playing again and buying the texture pack, just to recompense the developer.

Amazing to think that this kind of game made the older mac desktops run hot, and now an iPad can play this with no worries.

  • Big Up For Bungie

What an Incredible game. I was never able to play the original game when it first came out but I saw this an article of the app on Bungie website and got it instantly. This game app is a treat and I'm enjoying it throughly. Don't let the old graphics stop you from getting this game. I hope that as soon you've finished reading this you will download it. NOW!

  • Surprisingly good

As soon as I heard marathon was on the iPad I had to get it.
I was pleasantly surprised that it was free.
I was then surprised again that the controls were great, the best controls of any first person shooter on iOS I've ever played in fact. It became clear to me as soon as I started playing that a lot of effort has been put into the control scheme to make it work on this platform - it's not just a lazy straight up port like with certain other 90's fps...
The gameplay is fun and the game is 99% how I remember it including graphics, background music and the all-important in-game terminals which drive forward the intriguing, deep and interesting story.
So if you haven't played marathon before, download this. If you have played marathon before, try this anyway. It should be noted that the marathon trilogy is also free on pc, Mac and Linux with the Aleph One port, but this app is the way to go if you like portability and ease of use.

Once again it's a great app, and with level design, weapons and enemies that put modern games to shame, it'd be a huge mistake not to try this. The in-app purchases are practical and at the ultra-cheap end of the spectrum; they're well worth your money, even if only to fund continual development. Bring on the rest of the trilogy!

  • A wonderful find

Came across this whilst idly browsing Wikipedia in a nostalgic mood. Fantastic to find it on the iPad and first few sessions have reignited that original entranced feeling. Top job - well done. As ever, simply cannot understand comments from people who want to moan about games that are free - seems churlish and overly negative. It's up to you what platform/what controls etc., especially as you're not asking any money for your work!

  • Time Travel for Crumblies!

This is a complete blast from the past. Thoroughly enjoying revisiting the place I spent so much time years ago...

It's worth buying the HD upgrade (though HD is a relative term!)... I haven't reduced myself to buying the cheat pack...yet. I think that would be a cop out, especially after the time I spent powering up first (and second) time round.

Youngsters might find it a little clunky, and the graphics are nothing special... But the gameplay! Loving it!
