Decent App, side menu could use some changes

The app is mostly pretty good, but the side menu is very cluttered and could use some changes. Firstly, I don’t need access to all of those folders all the time. The option to have folders like Snoozed, Scheduled, Outbox, Drafts, etc. be hidden when they’re empty would make this menu a lot less cluttered.

Also, nested labels should be collapsible like they are on desktop, and should also be able to be hidden when there’s no unread emails, again, like on the desktop version.

These changes would make this app significantly more usable, and would definitely get you five stars from me 😊

Hi there, thanks for reporting. We recommend sharing feedback on this by following these steps: goo.gle/2Kqrhv6. Appreciate it!

I only want ONE inbox

I want every single email to show up in one single inbox. Even though I have turned off all filters, suggestions, smart features, etc… (I’ve checked, double and triple checked that I have all those settings disabled and followed every tutorial I can find) google still insists on making decisions about what emails go where. In order to view all of my incoming mail, I have to click “All Mail.” As promised, EVERY email shows up from the beginning of time to present.

I also hate that gmail uses “Labels” instead of “Folders.” I’m really organized, so I like making folders where I can store emails and never have to look at them again unless I specifically open that folder. Unfortunately, even the emails that I’ve “Labeled” or “Moved” still appear when I click “All Mail.” And, like I said, I’m forced to click “All Mail” in order to view emails that should be in my inbox.

Every gmail platform is the same from the app to the desktop site. It’s inferior to Outlook. I only keep it because I’ve had the same gmail account since the late 90s and it’s convenient for other accounts, apps and websites that work with google.

Can't login to my email again after password change.

I had to change my password in the instance that somebody tried to log into my account and I was warned so I changed the password and tried logging back into the Gmail on my iPhone through the mobile app and the message keeps appearing that says couldn’t login because Google cannot trust this app even though this is an app for Google and it says if you trust it to exit and try and sign it again and no matter how many times I’ve done this me the same message over and over again I even tried to account recovery and it’s the only app giving me issues every other app I was able and verify through phone number, but this one is giving me issues and it’s bad for let’s save the computers because then I have to do pen and I’m not even able to see the messages on my Outlook. It only appears on the Gmail through my secondary account that it is linked I just want this issue resolved so I don’t have to worry or keep going back-and-forth through emails. I just want my Account open on my phone like it is on other devices.

This app/gmail is waaaaaay behind the curve

If you want a basic, simple app that hasn’t really improved much in the last 10-15+ years, then this is for you. The YahooMail app just included these features when long pressing on an email: 1. Delete all messages from (sender) 2. View all messages from (sender) 3. Mark as spam 4. Select message. The first option alone is absolute gold. I was able to clean my inbox from Loads of junk and unimportant emails that had accumulated over the years. Adding this to gmail would most likely save the company loads of storage space as people have a way to clear out accumulated junk from their inboxes. Additionally, after deleting all messages from a particular sender, it’ll ask you if you want to unsubscribe from further emails. In gmail, I’d need to manually delete each email from a sender one by one? This is incredibly antiquated.

Why can’t I swipe to delete??

App is good generally, but when I swipe right or left it only gives me an option to Archive. I’ve given 2 stars because this is irresponsible of Google, being such a big company, encouraging people to keep emails when data storage is such a big environmental issue. Also, not being able to easily delete has an impact on people’s wellbeing because they can get overwhelmed with emails. If someone wants to archive something important this is rare and and they can spend more time, but in todays age of too many emails being able to delete by swiping is almost essential! The other apps on phones can do it, why not this one? Seriously who archives emails??? Just let me swipe to delete (and flag/unflag) please! Have a look at the iOS Mail app for inspiration, that works well.
Another worrying thing about this app is just how many reviews are completely off topic… like how did that happen?

With robust security??? Ummmm… not, just not true.

I’m sure there’s a million or more people that love Gmail and trust it. I unfortunately am not one of them. Because of a hack. Google kept telling me that I needed to manage my account. That is all they said. I would check it and nothing seemed to be wrong. Someone (other than google) finally told me to go further back into settings, so I did and what I found was so shocking that even google would not help me get rid of it. What I found was 300 email addresses for hacking people. From all over the world and from A to Z. They were put into the “FREQUENTLY CONTACTED EMAILS” section of the main google settings and were the bad yandex not the good. It totally hacked everything and fried my computer and has followed me even though I had a professional remove it but it still has its grip on me and it’s now been over 7 years. Everything I had and have now is hacked and it also put me on the dark web six times. Be careful to all you that use gmail. It’s a nightmare still! No one helped, not Apple, not the FBI, and of course not google. I have over 30 screen shots of these email addresses that are not mine. I was told that they are four taking down large corporations, like banks!! OMG!! So beware and be on your toes! STAY SAFE!!

Google will merge all your Gmail accounts into one without asking you.

Google like to do a lot of things without asking you, forcing terrible/unwanted features and making it impossible to revert. Google has merged my work email, personal email, and another email I use for games. I have seperate emails for a very good reason. Recently Google has decided to merge all messages from all signed in accounts into the one inbox, and you can’t turn it off, making Gmail very unproductive and unprofessional. I’m switching to anyone else, this isn’t the first time Google has imposed drastic unchangeable changes that alter the entire use of the app. You can’t disable this btw, you’re stuck with all your gmails inboxes being merged into one. What a joke

Gmail has problems in 2024, starring junk mail, preventing primary view working properly

I’ve been using Gmail as my go to for many years and am seriously considering changing. Gmail now seems to be starring all emails including updates, which makes the primary inbox feature unusable. The support arrangements have workarounds from 2019 and 2022 that don’t work for iPhone or indeed windows. I’m thinking that the combination of advertising now integrated into Gmail, sharing of Gmail data with other applications, has violated the integrity of Gmail. I’m looking at switching to another app which will enable me to cleanly display my emails without cluttering the primary review With low qualities stuff.

doing some scream lining of your format

being able to swipe the dividing line between the information boxes on the left and your main reading half on the screen, more consistently would be appreciated so that you have more of your screen for reading would be helpful. I had more than one email account with you. I deleted one by going directly to the website and deleting it, but unfortunately it still keeps filling up with mail most of it garbage mail anyway. It would make more sense if once I deleted from your website or your app that particular email address should stop receiving any email at all, the process of removing an email address from your service is complicated and unnecessarily frustrating. A simple swipe left or right that particular email address to delete it even with a are you sure and click delete a second time should be sufficient not only to remove the email address from my options, but to discontinue the email address from receiving any emails at all if it has been permanently deleted and does not receive any mail for several weeks or so then you could be reassured that someone else isn't going to hack into the account and read the mail you don't want to receivethat would also make a very nice security feature making sure it gets rid of any email addresses by senders also

Hi there. We appreciate your interest in improving the app. If possible, share your suggestion with our team by following these steps: Gmail App - Menu - Send feedback. Thank you.

Needs updates

On iphones in the gmail app if you swipe right on an email it sends it to ‘Archives’ then theres literally no where to find them. No ‘archive’ folder you cant even search it. The app itself does what its supposed to - send and receive emails which is good. It works. But being a company as big as google you would think they are capable of at-least adding a folder for archives seeing as YOU CAN ARCHIVE EMAILS. Obviously they are not capable so that is what it is. Ill be moving to yahoo as they are more convenient and they actually listen to reviews.
