  • Which version is this? $4.99 version or $2.99 version?

Is this the $4.99 in app purchase version or the special $2.99 in app purchase version? The app store says it's $4.99 but the blurb says special launch price of $2.99

I need to know because I run a game forum and my subscribers need to know why there are two prices listed,
How long was it listed at $2.99 and is it still valid, Since there is no close date listed in the blurb about this game

    Otherwise, This is very confusing.

On my personal review side about this game,
I gave it just 3 stars, Mostly because of the left hand movement controls on my iPhone 4 makes this game very difficult to use.

Otherwise, I like the story line, It has a lot of potential.

    Edit:
I knew I should have quoted your blurb when I saw the reference to the $2.99 launch price because now it isn't there anymore,
Well, Thanks for not mentioning your edit or even giving me a reply, That just tells me that you have no scruples.
Knock another star off, Not that it matters at this point.

This is the original blurb that was listed:
"Metacritic’s highest rated handheld game of 2010!
Winner! IGN Nintendo DS Game of the Year 2010, now on iOS!
Special Launch Price! $2.99 (normally $4.99)"

  • Absolute Winner

I as a person can officially say I'm picky about which games end up in my collection. Shantae: Risky's Revenge blew me away.

All the great things that you remember from the old days are back! With a vengence. The controls are superb and keep you immersed in the world of Sequin Land. Touch and go abilities simplify looking all over the place for abilities. Enhanced graphical content keep you interested, and bring the world to life. Also on a more personal note, I can't stop laughing.

If you long for the past glory of gaming, coupled with new inovations, give this one a whirl. It's what your looking for.

  • Revenge of the Blue Border

It's early doors so far - and I'll add more to this review once I've beat it - but my first impressions are overwhelmingly positive, but for a couple of easily remedied issues.

    PROS:

    - Gorgeous 16-bit graphics
    - Fabulous side scrolling action adventure
    - Great cutscenes
    - Likeable characters
    - Full to bursting with retro charm
    - Universal app

    CONS:

    - Virtual controls aren't the best
    - No menu's, options or pause screens
    - That ugly blue border really spoils the visuals for me
    - IAP to unlock full game. Would prefer up front purchase

If the virtual controls can be looked at and if the developers could introduce an option to remove that awful blue border, Shantae: Riskys Revenge could be one of the finest scrollers on the App Store.

  • Functional eye candy!

The control scheme works just right for the iPad screen. Thankfully, action games on iPad continue to mature in ergonomics.

Side note: I find myself more than a little distracted by the feminine close-ups during dialogue and the animated jiggly bits during gameplay. But I can't bring myself to file complaints... Sigh. Guess I'll continue to wrestle with my inner ecchi demons.

  • I'm stuck!!

Great game but I'm really confused. I'm stuck at the part where the guy says find three magic seals. This is right after the girl stole the lamp. The guy tells me to go east of the town gate to find a forest. I've tried to do that and I've found nothing! I used every jumping pad and I went everywhere I could. Someone please tell me where this forest is!

  • Best Metroidvania-alike on the App store

Highly recommended to anyone fond of retro exploration-based platformers. Incredibly tight controls and some absolutely stunning pixel-art really set this apart from the rest, with very smooth animation, varied backdrops and colorful characters.

Unfortunately doesn't save on suspend and instead relies on checkpoints, which can be a bit frustrating. The map screen could also use some work, maybe with a little more detail, a quest marker and a Metroid-style icon marker to help show areas that should be revisited when the player earns more powers. Shantae is also a reasonably short game, at least when compared to other games in the genre, and seems to finish just as things start to get interesting with a reasonably unsatisfying ending.

Regardless of these relatively minor issues, this has been one of the few iOS games that I've actually enjoyed enough to play all the way through. Hope to see more like this from WayForward in the future!

  • Awesome.

    Boobalicious! Sexy game.
  • This game is Ret-2-Go!

Great game with interesting characters and solid gameplay. Probably the best action platformer on iOS!
  • iCloud not across devices!?

Thanks for fixing the iCloud but I just assumed this would be across devices iPhone/iPad on my iCloud account.

Edit: great is now after a sync it is cross device.... Only it used the iCloud data with nothing on it and overwrote my game with 3hrs progress. Now I have to start again. Not impressed!!! How about some sort of overwrite warning?!?!

    It's a great game otherwise.
