  • Not what it seems

It pains me to write this review because when I tested this app, I actually liked it. It’s certainly not the same as professional production equipment, but for iPhone cinematography, it wasn’t that bad. It ended up being a bit glitchy, so I stopped using it. I thought I had cancelled the subscription, but fast forward to a few days ago and I realize I have been being charged $10 a week for 7 months without realizing it. That latter part being my admission. I realize it’s on me that I didn’t realize these payments have been coming out for months, but when I reached out to the manufacturer via apple’s refund process to stop payment, cancel my subscription and refund the last 7 months of payments they denied it and denied the appeal.

Look, I get it. The argument is not whether they are in their means to demy me, they likely are. But it shows a lot about how they operate and who they are. When I explained the mistake in detail and added that they should check my usage history (I.e. no use during those months!) they could see that the inaction on my end was an honest mistake.

So there it is. Take it for however you should but a missed opportunity to recover here.

  • Thankful For Filmic Legacy Version

I was miffed, to say the least, when I discovered that the Filmic Pro app that I had previously purchased had been changed to a subscription model. As far as I could tell, I could not download or send pre-recorded videos to my camera roll (among other previously available features) unless I paid for a fairly expensive subscription. It might be worth it to professionals or content creators, but I’m a casual user for personal purposes. More than a year after this discovery (after which I had stopped using the app for obvious reasons, but luckily didn’t delete it because I didn’t want to lose my videos), I went back to read the reviews of others in the same boat. The developers responded to some of those reviews with instructions on how to download this legacy version (for those who had previously purchased the original app) and move previously recorded video files from the Filmic Pro file folder to the newly created Filmic Legacy file folder on my iPhone. There is even a tutorial video of the file transfer process. So my app (Filmic Legacy now) is completely functional again, and I have complete access/control of my videos, including downloading or sending videos to my camera roll. I knocked off one star because this information, as far as I know, was never sent to those who had previously purchased the Filmic Pro app. I was just lucky enough to discover the legacy version on my own. Hopefully, this review will help others.

  • I feel ripped off.

I DO NOT think it’s ok to have someone buy something from you, just for you to then take it back and charge them a subscription for its use. How is this even legal let alone ok? Technically, they didn’t take it away but you can’t even save your videos that you take with it so pretty much you can’t even use it or what’s the point of using it if you can’t access the footage you recorded unless you have a subscription. It’s like going to Walmart buying some thing and then Walmart coming to your house and taking it unless you pay a subscription monthly for it. Oh, but let’s not forget we took off a dollar for “loyalty” since I bought it already. Please. A lot of people are not only very angry but all feel cheated and ripped off by the filmicPro app development team..,but I can’t speak for others. I can only speak for myself and how I feel on it. Which is also cheated, ripped off, and it’s all together bad business. I went from your biggest supporter and praised you on my channel. Now I’m done with filmic pro. Greed gets the best of everyone Eventually. And with the way that technology is moving faster each day. There will be the next “filmmakers favorite app” before you know it…,and the only thing that people will remember about filmic pro is that has-been app that ripped me off.

Dear customer, you will always have access to Filmic Pro through the Legacy App that you can download and unlock from the Information menu on the app. To access the menu, please dismiss the paywall through the X on the top left corner and download the Legacy App. We hope this helps and that you're going to keep using our apps and reconsider your review!
  • Filmic Pro is one of the few truly professional apps

I’ve been a Filmic Pro user for many years, and am always impressed at the settings and features available within the app that can’t be found elsewhere. Filmic Pro provides high quality, easy-to-use access to each facet of filmography that can be used on iOS and iPadOS. Integrated support for third-party wireless mics, external lenses, and cloud storage further extend just what the platform is capable of, and allow users to take advantage of resource-intensive modes such as ProRes video, HDR10, high frame rates, and uncompressed audio — all without worry that the phone or tablet’s internal storage will be overwhelmed.

I wholeheartedly recommend Filmic Pro to anyone who works in film, is a prosumer, and/or occasionally finds themselves needing to shoot professional-grade footage from their Apple device.

  • Almost…

I was a Legacy user for a few years. I have no problem with the subscription model but I really wish that the UI layout was more closely arranged like the app that made it a legend. The new quality and features in the V7 are awesome. Unfortunately a lot of us use manual controls for both iso/LV and Zoom simultaneously. The zoom slider rocker on the right hand side is hard to control at the exact zoom speed desired. If in a future update you guys could make it possible to switch the manual focus over to a manual zoom wheel (reticle) so we could once again have a manual iso on the left and a manual zoom reticle on the right simultaneously, lots of Legacy users would likely come back, especially if they’re not taking advantage of the loyalty discounts you were cool enough to honor. I know I and my classroom would anyway. In some recording situations where manual controls are desired, it’s currently tricky to switch the left QAM from LV to Zoom in the landscape position when beforehand we could tap auto zoom (at preset speed) then quickly control iso as it zooms. Although your auto iso is really awesome, it doesn’t always automatically adjust to the desired exposure level we want.

Anyhow, your technology is very impressive and the result’s beat everything else out there. All of this combined with the classic layout would probably send ratings up even higher. Nice work Fimiic! 👍

  • Great app. Would love if...

I’ve been using FilMic for some time now and I have to say it is the best app out there for smartphone filmmaking or content creators who don’t have a mirrorless, DSLR or cinema camera. With the quality of camera phones these days, it’s getting close to where you may not need those other cameras. Unlikely, but close. There are a few things that I would like to see in future updates, though. One being, a Clinometer. There are apps that do this but it would be more efficient if it were incorporated into the app. The other being a way to control more gimbals like Zhiyun Crane 3s. I know it takes both companies to be onboard with this idea but if you can make that happen, that would be fantastic. I love this app. It’s my go to app for filmmaking. I said I would try this subscription model for a year to see if it was worth it. So far, I’m not disappointed. Keep it going FilMic! Thanks for all the great updates.

  • This app is a sight for sore eyes

I used FilmicPro on my galaxy S 22 ultra and am psyched to find it's on the app store. I found it was the most fully equipped cinematography/videocam app, yet somehow they manage to keep everything minimalistic streamlined and just totally sleek looking. Form follows function Minimalistic streamlined and just totally sleek looking. Form definitely follows function as it’s fantastically minimal design is so easy work with. It didn't take me long at all to learn my way around. Though even after 4 years of using Filmic I still doubt I know everything this feature packed beast of a smartphone camera can do. You definitely won't get bored with this one. Devs 🙇🏼‍♀️🙌🏻 kudos! Btw I do have one question... I have not been able to find an app with tracking auto focus like Samsung s22 and later offers. Do you or ANYONE offer TAF on IOS?? Or is it not possible due to limitation of ios hardware? I was surprised it wasn't in the stock cam (on my14pro max) tbh. Thanks again

  • Shameless

Realizing that every company needs to make money - your app was not cheap (as apps go) So you “update” the app I paid for and 𝒚𝒐𝒖 advertised as being a “one-time-purchase.” Now, thanks to your avarice, I can’t use the app unless I buy a subscription. Shameless exploitation. And yes, I already heard, I can download the legacy version - a version that is not designed to be updated, one for which you plan no support. Had I and countless others (check your reviews here and other review forums) known you were planning this, 𝒘𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒚 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒇𝒓𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒄𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒖𝒔, 𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒆𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆. Like on “Beast Cam”, or “Moment”, or “Protake.” Bait and switch… and there’s not “thing one” any of us can do about it. It’s too late to dispute the initial purchase from the App Store. Congratulations on finding the perfect way to steal from your customers… in plain sight… without repercussions. If you were smarter, you would have 𝒓𝒆-released this app with a new name. But then you wouldn’t have had a ready made base of people you could try and double sell to… or your coveted “Editor’s Choice” status. I see you Filmic Inc and your parent company Bending Spoons. Your business practices are reprehensible, I’m disgusted. And you should read some of the Reddit posts of people who also think you are criminals.

  • Not a good experience for those amateurs that are getting it right now.

I was told by many reputable YouTuber’s for years that Filmic was it and that no other app stood a chance. I did not get it early on because I wanted to develop this passion towards cinematography and videography even more. I also wanted to learn more about filming before investing even a dime. What I truly loved about this app was that it was a one-time purchase business model so when I was ready to move out of Apple’s simple Camera app, that I will just pay one time and if I want certain kits then I would just pay one fee for them.

Instead, you guys decided to switch to a business model for I am sure some good reason or a bad reason such as greed. Nonetheless, you guys should have considered that maybe innovation might be the problem. Maybe if you innovated and told new customers and advertise to them about how beneficial it would be to purchase your app then you would be able to stick with your one-time purchase business model. Instead, you guys decided to switch to a subscription-based business model, and leave. Everyone who has already paid for this service left out and having to pay a subscription. If they want any new features granted, I am not someone who has bought this app yet, but was about to many months ago until I learned about you guys switching to a new business model.
