  • Very disappointed

I purchased two books. Both prior to the option of paying for a subscription. I can fully understand an app that does not work to it's full potential when you are using the free version. I paid full print value for a digital copy. Both books worked great for two years. Then clearly the app creators weren't making enough money. Even after paying full price for the book, they want to charge a monthly subscription. Same flaw over and over. Click on today's reading and it either takes you to January first or another random day of the year. This may seem petty, but it's a real pain to exit out of the book, select library, choose the book you bought, then scroll through every day starting at January. Like others I have emailed and emailed. Their response is always the same. They tell you how to do what I described above and that they are fixing it. Then it's delete the app and restore purchase. Still, it doesn't work. I refuse to pay a subscription for a book I purchased.

  • Subscribe why?

I bought this app years ago. Can’t remember what it cost but it wasn’t $1.99. It was a decent amount. Thought I was buying the “book”.
Now I have to subscribe to continue to use something I thought I already paid for?? It’s reset to January and I have to subscribe to go back to todays date??
Unless I’m missing something? I hope I am.

  • I love this book but I am disappointed

I bought this app years ago when it first came out and loved it. Every devotional was timely. In this season, it is timely as well, but now I can no longer access the original Jesus Calling like I used to without having to go back to January 1st. So, I deleted the app and redownloaded it but now I lost all of my notes, my favorites and I can no longer access the content. It only shows the 1st seven days.

This saddens me because when Sarah Young was alive, this was not the case, but after she passed away, the book in the form of an app became a platform for all books with a subscription. Which is great to access other content if you want, but I simply wanted to access my devotional without so much trouble.

As silly as that sounds, I paid for the app years ago and I am not paying monthly for something that required a one time payment. I emailed about this the other day, was given j structuring to follow to correct the issue and it has not changed. I still haven’t heard back, so bought the actual book because I refuse to pay for a subscription.

  • Long time reader

This devotional is not consistently available to Legacy users. We have appreciated Jesus Calling digital devotional for years. Sold as a once in a lifetime purchase we have enjoyed and purchased it as a gift for many others. Now we can’t use it. I am baffled that Harper Collins is unable to treat the Legacy users consistently. The app will work as promised for short periods of time at the end of which the demand for additional subscription is made to continue use. Then miraculously the app will work again for a while. This sequence recently repeated, working well for the last half of the month of April 2024 until May 1, now their is a demand for subscription to continue. If it is Harper Collins intention to squeeze all legacy users to abandon their app purchase and get on board with the new subscription model I wish they would state that. This inconsistent treatment makes them look incompetent and leaves us legacy folks frustrated.
I have attempted to get resolution from Harper Collins both by email and phone calls. If I receive a response the promise of help or callbacks drifts down a black hole somewhere, follow through is not an attribute of their customer service teams.
I gave a rating of 3 stars as an average of my experience, 5 stars for the content of the product and 1 star for the effectiveness of communication and follow through of Harper Collins.
My wife and I are in our 70’s and desire to use the Jesus Calling app we purchased so long ago.

  • Please fix this Jesus Calling App

The content is inspiring but the app support is VERY poor with lengthy spells when it does not work properly. PLEASE invest in fixing the problems 🥹
  • Very Disappointed

I gave this app a 5 star rating because the writings of Sarah Young have been very inspirational and encouraging to me in the past. I purchased this app for $9.99 many years ago in good faith that it would not change and now find that that a monthly fee of $4.99 is required. I understand that the cost of many things has gone up, however I did not expect that a inspirational app as yours would change its pricing. There are many apps that are totally free (Streams in the Desert, You version) however this one is my favorite. I am on a fixed income and would love to continue with this app but am not able to. I am sure that I am not alone. Maybe for those who sign up for the first time and accept the new fee requirement, however for those who already purchased the app and now find that their initial purchase is not enough should be considered. I respectfully ask you to reconsider allowing those who already purchased the app be allowed to view all of its contents. Thank you and God Bless!

  • Disappointed with the newer version of the app

I purchased the app years and years ago and it was pretty prefect to use. Now I have to subscribe to access the Jesus Calling book I had purchased. Not impressed.
  • Same Experience as “Why Change Things Up”

Same experience. App worked for 3 days then everything gets locked. I already paid for the subscription many many years ago…why should I have to pay for a NEW subscription?
I reached out for assistance and finally received an e-mail reply. I was given instructions on how to fix the App as a “legacy subscriber”. I followed the instructions and the App continues to lock???
What a shame. Don’t waste your $$$ on a subscription. In a few years they will figure out a way to make you pay and subscribe again to a “new and improved” version of the App!!!

  • Why change things up?

I originally bought the book Jesus Calling. I’d read it everyday and shared daily verses with my colleagues. I’ve even bought additional books to give away!
Once I found out that I could have it on my phone, I bought the app.
Ive had the app for some time now. Since it was modified for additional features, it hasn’t worked right since. I have reached out to support to let them know and they have always been gracious in their reply. Sometimes the fix they offer works for a bit, then it ‘breaks’ again.

I truly enjoy this app. It brings me comfort. I just find it disheartening now.

  • Disappointed

I am so grateful that God has blessed those who can share devotion with his word that God gives us freely. I paid for this app when it first came out and now I can’t enjoy it because now I have to sign up to pay a monthly fee even the Bible project and you version is free, and they take one offerings of donations. Even the daughters of the king is free, and here you have a woman who I watched and listen to her reasoning for writing this book, her purpose, but I didn’t know God had put it in her to revamp it to make more money a different kind of way off his word that God ABBA Father gives freely. I am so disappointed. I wasted 10 bucks on this when it first came out and now I got to pay a fee, if you are a person who believes in God and you know, God will supply all your needs and you don’t have to make money off of what God gives to us freely. I’m disappointed in the creators of Jesus Calling for doing this. I don’t see where Jesus and God is in this I see that is the hand of man very disappointing. I truly enjoyed having this devotion and now, when I go to download it back on my other devices, I’m seeing I have to pay a fee for something I paid for already. This is sad. This is not of God. This is a man.
