  • Updates have ruined the app for me

Jesus Calling has brought me peace and calm over the years. I’ve enjoyed reading the daily devotionals every morning. Up until the forcing of premium into readers. After purchasing the app, which is the same 365 readings every year, I thought the procurement was finished. Fast forward several years and now Premium seems to be the only way to move around to different readings. I used to be able to revisit “favorites” and readings that moved me. Now, after a slew of updates, I can’t get past January 1st without having to purchase the recurring premium package. There have been many updates since the release of the premium option. Each update has had a different impact. The most recent says “to make the daily reading button more intuitive” and yet when you hit it your taken to 1 January and no way to get to the current day. It’s unfortunate that what started out as something to bring peace and joy in people’s lives through the reflections of daily passages, has now become more about increasing bottom line revenue. Before premium this would have been 5 stars. Now I give it 2. If it hadn’t been for the impact the readings have had over the years I’d make it a 1 due to all the glitches from the updates and the forcing of premium on those who just want to enjoy all the readings

  • Was better before

I bought this app years ago and used it, now they want everyone to “subscribe” meaning keep paying for something that I already paid for, so now it does not work for me. Not very ethical for an apl dedicated to Jesus.
  • Jesus calling

Can’t do with the tactics in subscription. I’m a sheep for the Lord, but won’t be fleeced by you.
  • The Book is Amazing; the App is Terrible

I first off want to start by saying that this book (Jesus Calling) is amazing. I read it nearly every day and do feel like the Lord is speaking to me through it, reminding me daily to seek His face. I started reading this book at the suggestion of a friend at my salvation, and have not stopped since. I started by reading the physical book—loved it so much that I thought to go to the app.
Here’s where it gets tough. I had to purchase the book again on the app (understandable, kind of like buying a book on Kindle), but I have to jump through hoops to access it. I can only go to my library, and have to scroll all the way down. I used to be able to just go to the corresponding day. There have been a couple times that I tried to even access it through the “library” tab and it said that I had to buy it (which I already did), so I had to delete the app and reinstall. I tried contacting app support but received no response. Everywhere else in the app, it says I have to buy the book or get a subscription.
So again, not having trouble with the book itself. It’s amazing. It’s just that this app is frustratingly not working properly.

  • Helps me draw closer to Jesus!but it has glitches

The Jesus Always version often has glitches and disrupts my devotion time . It often doesn’t go to todays reading but to a different one… so annoying ! Can you pls fix this

My previous review gave 5 stars: :
So love the Jesus Calling and Jesus Always devotions ! I read them first thing in my day and it is often as though God is speaking to me !! I can take the app wherever my phone goes and it works offline when we are camping . My day is not the same if I miss soaking in the words. thank you Sarah Young!

  • Truly disheartening

I am so saddened and disheartened that the devotional that I paid for years ago and have enjoyed reading almost daily ever since is no longer accessible to me without a subscription. That is literally like buying a book in a bookstore and then ten years later, the author walks into your house and takes it off the bookshelf. I’m disheartened because I know the words Sarah wrote in Jesus Calling are so divinely appointed. I can’t imagine falling so far away that you choose to withhold those words from the users that paid for them, all in hopes of making a few extra bucks on monthly subscriptions. I do have the hard copy but I like reading on my phone first thing in the morning before I even turn my light on.
I’m urging you to reconsider this decision. Please restore access to those who have already paid for it and just trust that God will provide for you financially another way. I can’t tell you how many times Jesus Calling has been exactly what I needed for the day ahead or to fall asleep after a difficult day.

  • Disappointed

This app used to be fantastic. Now it’s turned into a money making app unless I pay more money and subscribe. I can’t imagine the author being happy about this outcome. I have purchased and given so many Jesus Calling books. Still love it but when I’m traveling can’t use the app any more without subscribing. Disappointed.

  • Still issues with ‘improved’ app

I just updated the app to deal with the frustrating issues all the recent reviewers have been mentioning. However, there are still issues even with the most recent update. When I go into the book content to read a day that is after the current day in the calendar, it takes me to the subscription advertisement page and does not allow me to read that reading. That is still not acceptable since I paid for the entire book (app) a long time ago. Thank you for being responsive and fixing the major issues but please fix the remaining issues as well. In addition, when I clicked on app support in the Apple Store page for this app, it did not take me to anything like support for the app, rather it took me to more information about the book itself, and more opportunities to subscribe. It seems the only way to get help on issues with the app is to leave a review or email the publisher support.

  • Paid for Features Removed

I used to LOVE this app. Now that they are “upgrading,” we lose features we paid full price for if we don’t buy a monthly or yearly subscription. For example, I am a veteran with a 100% disability for PTSD (and therefore, on a fixed budget). I was such a wreck yesterday (Christmas Day) and didn’t do my reading. I read today’s devotional and wondered what God’s message to me would have been, had I been able to get myself together enough to open the app - I’ve learned that perspective often helps. Well, now access to yesterday’s devotional is locked, whereas for YEARS, I’ve been able to go back and read any day that I wanted to reread or to visit a previous day if I had missed it. God will apparently give me grace if I am human and unable read my devotional on a particularly bad day, but Jesus Calling won’t! I understand offering upgrades to people who want (and can afford) it, but not greedily taking away what someone has already paid for. That behavior is definitely it in line with the topic or message included in the app.

  • Subscription Now Required

Thank you to the developer who responded to my initial comments (See below.) expressing disappointment that I could no longer access Jesus Calling without a monthly subscription. A change has been made so that now I can access my original content, but have the option to subscribe monthly for additional publications. That is fair. Thank you for listening and for responding!

I am disappointed that a subscription is now required for me to access the full content of the Jesus Calling app. I bought the app several years ago and now am required to pay $4.99/month to continue using it. A subscription would seem reasonable if the app were free, but charging for the app and then adding a monthly cost does not seem right. I will use my print copy and delete the app.
