NY Crosswords
I enjoyed doing the crossword although I found it hard because my knowledge of America was not as good as it could have been. Because I am Australian!
Across Lite
An excellent application for anyone who loves crosswords. I very quickly decided to buy the upgraded version for miniscule £2.99 as I felt that the developers had produced such a slick application that they deserved to be paid for it and of course so long as they receive support, we can perhaps expect futher enhancements in future.

Best crossword app in the store.
Hands down the best and most user friendly crossword puzzler I've played thus far. Interface is very easy and intuitive to operate. The amount and type/difficulty level of puzzles available for download is quite vast. Also, the developer(s) seem to have made a point of allowing the user to both pause and later pick up and jump right back into the game without having to waste time finding your previous spot, logging back in, etc. Looks great and the price is unbeatable. Cool, dudes!

Worked great until I hit a problem with the App Store.
Loved this app until I tried to download more puzzles. I could certainly purchase them but they would not download. I deleted the app and restored it. Now the app won't even open. The company has responded that this is a known issue not related to the app but to the App Store. Their communication has been excellent. I look forward to a fix as this is a great app.

Excellent
This is a great app. I haven't had it for long but I've really enjoyed it.
glad this app is here, but needs a tweak
I am really happy to finally see the Across Lite app. I have been using another app to access the NY Times puzzle and am happy to switch over. Each app has its advantages and disadvantages, but I will only speak to Across Lite.
Advantage: you can access the NYTimes puzzle and pay a lot less for the privilege especially if you are a NY Times subscriber (I get the Sunday paper, and this provides the crosswords on line at a cheap price).
Advantage: the user can use a blue tooth keyboard instead of a screen keyboard.
Disadvantage: does not automatically load the puzzle. You need to go to the site, download the puzzle and then select to play with Across Lite--this isn't harsh, just a lot of steps that other apps don't require.
Disadvantage: It does not allow tabbing to the next open/unfinished word in the order that you want (across, down, or nearest), it forces nearest which can make it a bit annoying.
Need to check: I am guessing that since the app downloads the puzzle from the NYTimes, that the user can access the puzzle on multiple platforms (computer, phone, tablet). The other programs require separate subscriptions.

Across Lite Crosswords
Great crossword app, easier to move around it than some others!
Across Lite
For users of separate keyboards, this is a disaster; you have to touch the screen to erase a letter in a completed cross word, and in some cases even blank spaces are inaccessible. The old app made you blank out all the letters you passed to get to the one you wanted to change, but you could do the whole puzzle with the keyboard alone. Having to touch the screen to change a letter is a deal-killer. The author doesn't seem to realize that just because a word is "complete" doesn't mean you may not want to change it. Bring back the old version!! Better still, add the use of keyboard arrow keys.

Perfect!
I have been using Across Lite for iPad for a year now and I am so pleased with it. I subscribe to the NYT so I have been doing those puzzles. This app is so natural and easy to use I know I will be using it instead of paper from now on. I can't think of a way to improve it.
If only there was an acrostic version!
I even like the little tune played when you complete. Would be nice if there was more than one! Keep up the good work Literate Software!

Excellent way to do the nyt puzzle
I've been using this app for almost a year now. Every morning at breakfast, I tackle the nyt crossword. I won't say that I finish the Friday, Saturday, or Sunday puzzles before I finish eating, but I can't really blame the app for that! My only gripe is that sometimes the app gives me a warning about memory being low because of too many browser windows open in safari. No other app does that and I've never seen any bad consequence after getting the warning.
