I was looking for a game like this for my iPhone. (That is to say, an action game that isn't Infinity Blade.) I nabbed Swordigo while it was free, but it had about the charm of a dead cockroach. Though I knew this game existed, I forgot it was for iOS as well. Then it went on sale. Bought it without hesitation.
Good decision, because I'm loving it. It's humourous, the art direction is delightfully retro, and the gameplay is fun. The controls are inherently not excellent—touch controls will never be useful for precise platforming and platforming combat—but that's not a fault of the game, it's a fault of the device.
Also, despite the excellent art direction, the game's port to iOS didn't help the actual quality of the, erm, pixels. The pixels seem fuzzy.
If you want the definitive version of the game, get it on DSiWare. Though it's considerably more expensive ($12), the superior controls and native resolution will probably make it worth it. I know I'll be purchasing it next time I get a Nintendo points card. But for now, the iOS version will suffice!
