  • It’s the Airbnb of rental cars!

    Just discovered this alternative to car rental companies and it worked perfectly. It has insurance with 2 different levels of upgrades available. So much cheaper too! Was fantastic and we are using again in a week.
  • Clever app makes hiring a car easy

    Never used the app before but it works very well. We used pick-up without the owner present - the photos of the car you are required to take gives you peace of mind about any existing damage on the car, and your phone opens the car which is cool. Geolocation tool on the app works well - we went straight to the car and were guided back to the drop-off point. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is the standard excess is extremely high and isn’t explained until you go through the payment process, where you get a hard sell of paying extra to bring it down. It isn’t a very honest approach and I think Getaround should change their way of quoting a price, either bringing the atandard excess down or being clear upfront what the excess is at the time of quoting.

  • Timezone difference causes confusion

    Could the developer of the app please fix the issue with the timezone differences for the getaround employees that are obviously outside of US timezones. I keep finding myself having to argue with the support team on matters regarding checkout times because for some reason the support team gets updated on the checkout time in THEIR timezones instead of the timezone of the vehicle’s origin.

    Example would be, I had a renter that was supposed to check out at 7PM but she didn’t return my vehicle until 10PM with no explanation, and when I contacted support about this, they insisted that the renter had checked out of the vehicle at 4PM —3 hours before their reservation ends— which is completely false as I had all the evidences to prove them otherwise. This timezone issue is causing so much unnecessary hassle.

  • stole money from me

    this is my first and last time using this app. don’t use it. tlrd: chaotic pick-up and app stole 20 dollars from me.

    i booked a car and as i went to pick it up the location changed within five minutes of pick up. i uber to the new location and it’s in a mechanic’s shop that won’t release the car to me. i end up contacting the owner and figuring it out almost 30-45 minutes after my scheduled pick up. there’s cleaning stuff and a whole bumper in the trunk, so I can’t use the trunk even if i wanted to. the tank is only 50% full on pick-up so i log that on the app with pictures. i use the car and drop it off with the tank 55% full, i log that in the app on drop-off. the app still charges me 20 dollars for not filling the tank with no acknowledgment that I filed that it wasn’t full on pick up. i file a claim they offer me a ten dollar credit, insulting.

  • Worst rental app ever

    I rented a car because i was on vacation. Twice the car that i rented didnt turn on. My flight got canceled so i extended an extra day. It was 12a (middle of the night) and for the third time the car doesnt turn on. I am struggling to turn it on when a tow truck comes and starts threatening to tow us because we parked somewhere we shouldnt have. When i reach roadside assistance they immediately ended my reservation. And when i asked if i can get a refund for the extra day i extended to they claimed i had to wait until they did an investigation. When they gave me a call back to see when Roadside would get here, they didnt have an eta and advised to leave the keys in the car and leave the vehicle. I contacted them a few days later and they refuse to give me a refund because "a crime was committed" when i asked what type they stated a theft. The week i had the car rental not once i committed a crime. 23 years of life and never in my life have i committed a crime none the less steal. I pretty sure a previous renter committed the crime OR the owner themselves committed it and wants to put the blame on someone else. This is the worst rental car company ever. you might as well rent straight from enterprise, at least you know you will not be set up.

  • Crash of app

    Every time I tried to start my rental the app crashed. I was on the phone to getaround for several hours…. and then all they said was that if I cannot start it then all they can do is refund me. Really not helpful when you book a car in advance for a long holiday. On top of this when I tried to start the rental it told me I am not verified. Which was not true literally 5 minutes earlier…… no prior information was sent that I need to verify myself. Literally happened when I was at the car to pick it up. When I called them about this they told me I need to re-verify myself because I logged in from another device. Again only used my phone just logged in through the website because I was trying to start my rental in anyway considering that the app was crashing. I could not even send a help request through the app because it also crashed. Then when I was trying to verify myself it did not let me use my hungarian national address card to verify my address. Idk what else is more proof then that. Considering that I am staying with my parents I pay no bills or anything so I had no other proof.
    Honestly horrendous experience. I used them before and it was no problem but after this I am not sure I will ever use them considering how stressful it is to turn up to your holiday and then not being sure if you can rent a car or not.

  • Not recommended.

    During a recent trip in Marseille, I unknowingly made a mistake in renting a car with manual instead of automatic and when I canceled the rental, they still charged me for full rental. I then managed to rent another car with automatic transmission but when I returned the car, the underground garage door wouldn’t open and I had to park the car outside. I tried calling and messaging the help line without anyone answering or responding. You’d be better renting from a well established rental company. No hassles and no pain!

  • Shady Practices

    I went to rent my first car and the experience booking a car was horrible. First I found a car I’d like to book, went through the process of booking it, then it wanted my insurance information. So I plugged in all the info, it found my insurance, and I thought I was good to go. No - it said my insurance was invalid for the time period, which is strange because it’s an on-going insurance, I’ve had it for years. I contacted their support, they said they need to verify I’m over 19 so I download the app to verify myself and can’t find where to submit my drivers license. Then I tried looking at cars again (to make sure the one I wanted wasn’t booked yet) and now the whole app is locking me out cause I’m under 19… what? I contacted support again via email since they have no real number to call. Support just stopped writing back - they have no idea what’s happening.

    Horrible horrible service. I spent 3 days trying to book a car for my trip - I’m going with Turo.

    You need a better support system - what if I had a car and had trouble? There’s no support whatsoever even with booking. Turo took my insurance and drivers license just fine.

  • BEWARE!!! They WILL STEAL your money with FAULTY CARS!!

    If I could give this app NO STARS I would but America doesn’t do HONESTY. I rented this vehicle (for a week) when TWO DAYS into the rental period the car started making a LOUD noise upon acceleration with SLUGGISH acceleration (or ability to maintain speed)so much so that I called to report it on that Friday (I had gotten the car on the previous Wednesday). The person on the phone acknowledged hearing the sound and even suggested I might END the rental right then if needed. I decided to wait to see if I could get through the rental period because I needed to work. I had been renting for MONTHS previously through Hertz but their billing practices caused Me to end our relationship and I guess I had gotten “spoiled” by the fact that Hertz’s vehicles are of MUCH BETTER QUALITY. The guy (Dwight -a supervisor from Getaround) was on My social media during the TWO WEEKS it took for them to DECIDE that they weee going to KEEP MY MONEY though I returned the vehicle on a Monday versus the designated Wednesday. Oh yeah, I had returned the vehicle at 55% (versus the 60% I picked it up at) fuel and their system billed Me within MINUTES of Me returning the car. This company is like ANY OTHER, they want your MONEY. What they give You will NOT be to the proper standard. BEWARE!!!

  • Works well until you have a breakdown

    Rented a van to move my style from Lille to Paris. The van broke down halfway, meaning I had to return to Paris without my possessions and rent another van the following day to finish the job off. Given I wasn’t able to complete my journey, you’d think a full refund would be pretty logical no? Well, apparently because I “already used the van during the day”, I would only get refunded on the hours I didn’t get to drive. Pretty ridiculous.
