  • Big creative problem solver

I was really frustrated that one of my favorite Moog synthesizers had no iPad app for deeper controls and, even simply easily knowing which preset I was on. iOS is mainly where I do my midi sequencing, synth patch editing. So it was annoying to have to unplug the iPad rig and hook up a computer. A few hours of setup (and a good bit of that was me wanting it to be cosmetically matching the synth) and I have a fully functional ‘app’ to control stuff with.

If you understand midi, I dont think it is a bad learning curve. Only thing I had to hunt online for guidance for was more advanced, changing the midi channel of the whole panel with one button. Found a dev tutorial easy though.

Thanks for the positive words. We're amazed to see how our users DIY themselves out of difficult situations using MIDI Designer Pro 2. Glad to see that it got you from not understanding MIDI to building something useful easily. Enjoy!
  • Still no update for 11” iPad Pro, bugs

Two months without an update, so still a mess on the iPad Pro and the open in share sheet doesn’t work (can only load templates from a Mac via iTunes, not from files app). Otherwise, this app is five stars. A shame it’s not getting love from the developer.

    Developer Response

Sorry for the delay in responding. We've discussed this issue directly: the Open Sheet doesn't work from the File app, but you can use "Open In..." from Dropbox, Mail, Evernote, Google Drive, and any other app you can think of. Also, we've done testing on the newest 11" iPad Pro and weren't able to replicate most of the problems you reported. However, we'll retest on that device soon and hopefully have some relief for you. More updates coming soon to deal with all these issues in any case. Thanks for your patience and for loving MIDI Designer Pro 2!
  • Too many prompts

This app asks for ratings far too often.

    Developer Response

Thanks for confirming the review prompt is working! We've really tried to limit this to special circumstances, NONE of which would interfere with performance (saving a layout intentionally or sharing it are the only ones). We'll look in to suppressing the review prompt even further for users like yourself in the next release. Thanks for the devastating and destructive feedback... you caught our eye! Will fix, please hang tight. Thank you, Dan and the MIDI Designer Pro Team
  • Why is “browse” such a mess?

Much good in the thinking and design here. Fun to use and to make original layouts.

So why is the Browse screen so awful? First you get page after page of thumbnails that are useless to pick from unless you already know what the one you want looks like.

Then you get page after page of an index that is sort of organized but still a pain to navigate.

I say page after page but all of this is only actually on one single enormous page that goes on and on and on.

Please oh please fix this mess! It puts a cloud over the entire app.

    Developer Response

Thanks for the informative negative feedback: you've really caught our attention! The reason that the Browse functionality is such a mess is that the number of shares has doubled in a short time. At the same time, our Web team has been busy working on other projects. We'll rectify this in the next month. Will you please consider revising your review once Browse is fixed? We hope so. You can also just browse the layouts directly on our website at /community. Anyway, thanks so much for the generally positive review and the heads up on the browse function. Obviously we don't like to get 60% ratings in the App Store, want our users to be happy, and will fix. Thanks for checking out MIDI Designer Pro 2. Best! • Good app.. poor customer service

For people into tweaking MIDI this app is well ahead of the rest. It would be a fair statement to say that my expectations exceeded the limitations of the app. No demo version is available to check this out. Email to the developer went unanswered. Would have been happier with a simple “sorry..nothing we can do” as to no reply at all. Especially for an app in this price range.

Hi Ducktyn and very sorry we dropped your support query. We're looking through our backlog to see if we missed anything in the last 30 days. It's very rare but mistakes do happen occasionally. On the other hand, if you wouldn't mind hitting us up again via Config -> Actions -> Email Support OR just hit support [at] mididesigner.com, that would be appreciated. We take support and our customers (and potential customers) very seriously, which you can get a flavor for if you check out midiDesigner.com/qa. Let's get you sorted and happy ASAP. Thanks for the honest review. Best! Dan Dan Rosenstark, Author & CEO MIDI Designer :: dream | create | play
  • Does not display properly on new IPad Pro

If you have the new iPad Pro, do not buy. This doesn’t display properly. The bottom of the screen is cut off.
  • Great app!

Seriously guys, if you’re trying to work thru a complicated midi issue then this is the app for you. And the staff is superb. They have helped me work thru some weird things and I’m just thrilled to have these people behind this product. I’ve used the community layouts too and adapted them to my liking. Just awesome!

  • Very intuative

Brilliant dead easy to design stuff from scratch. Tried TB Midi Stuff which is good but crashes way too often. Also Touch OSC which is very difficult to setup. This is easy to delve into, only slight gripe wish the controls were a little less bright on the eyes apart from that a great controler.
  • Perfect app for all my MIDI needs

This app can do so much, I use it to control all my guitar pedals with an iPad. There are a host of things I can do with MIDI Designer and the iPad that I cannot do with foot pedal midi controller. There is an active community for the app and a forum where you can download other users creations, which saved me a ton of time as well! I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of what I can do with MIDI Designer. Excellent product!!!

  • Just brilliant!

I really don’t know how I survived without this in the studio for the 4 years I’ve been using an iPad to run it all. The internal designer is addictive once you get into it, and it will totally change your workflow when writing. I drive 80/90s synths and a racks of Eurorack (via midi converters etc) all together. I can create panels on the fly and it basically lets me perform any kind of control I need. Seriously...just buy it, for the price it’s a must have bit of kit for even the smallest midi studio. Note to the developer...you’re a total legend, I owe you a beer.
(Used on an iPad Pro iOS 10, tested fine, no crashing)
