  • Not good for motorhome

I have been using the caravan version for the trial period with our motorhome through France and Spain. Different forums I have read and belong to have mentioned this last version is not as good as earlier ones. The facility to avoid small roads is not present and the focus is on short or fast routes no matter what size of motorhome you are driving.

We entered 5ton weight, 8m length and 2.4m width but despite this it seems to ignore. ETA is totally unrealistic as I cannot drive around at MMA speed so eta keeps increasing as we progress along. The main reason why I will not purchase after the trial or recommend this is it insists on routing me down single track or unsuitable roads or through small villages when there is no reason to do so. Yesterday in Spain it wanted me to turn down a small side road which I wouldn’t have been able to do, so we ignored it and continued straight to a much larger turn a few metres down the road. Why it couldn’t have chosen that route i don’t know. It then insisted I go down a road limited to 3.5t when I clearly inputted my 5ton weight and dimensions.

  • No longer a truck app !

25 years. I’ve started with pc miler by ALK then came co-pilot I used on the laptop. Then finally the phone app. I ran Rand Mc. along side Co-pilot and would laugh at how Rand was trying to route me through cities and town to get to my destination. Co-pilot was way better maybe taking you to the next exit or even using the bypass around major cities. Those days are gone now I guess.

It doesn’t post the truck speed on split speed limits.

It doesn’t notify you of scales coming up.

I can’t find save current location to add to address folder.

You need internet to find fuel stops.

And routing has become frustrating. Practical is a joke anymore.

I’m staying with Co-pilot because the traffic alert is great and I paid the 300+ years ago for the truck app. I will continue to use it as a backup to the Rand. But I can no longer recommend Co-pilot as a truck app especially since they are asking for a monthly fee.

Should they return to improve this app and start adding useful features for trucks and truck navigation ie: weather and construction warnings scales and truck fuel stops in route like what is on the ALK app. then I would gladly change my rating and review.
    Co-pilot has lost their way.

  • Almost Great

This app is almost great, some have complained about things they could have fixed in settings, I say learn the app and it’s features/settings before giving a negative review. I am a pilot and use navigation programs for aircraft and they are excellent as you would expect, this app is close but still needs just a bit more work to make it a bit more user friendly. Making a rout you want instead of what the computer wants can be a challenge until you learn the idiosyncrasies of the app. For those who complain about it directing them to a closed road or a low bridge I say this is a driving aid, you are the driver, stay alert stay in front of your vehicle.

  • Great

I have used Co Pilot in Australia as well as on trips to the U.K., France and Italy. It has been awesome. I particularly like the walking directions and the fact that the maps are on your phone, so no international data charges
  • Unreliable

I bought this years ago & was annoyed that my purchase didn’t count for anything when it moved to a subscription model. However, I need a reliable GPS on my phone for our RV travels. This isn’t it. On the first trip while using it Copilot directed us down a road that we should never have been on. I don’t blindly follow GPS instructions but neither Apple Maps nor my paper map indicated anything to raise alarms. After we turned into this narrow country road with swamp each side and no shoulders we reached a sign saying that there was no access for vehicles over 1/2 ton or longer than 20 feet. We’re 16 tons and 40 feet and there was no area to turn around. Backing half a mile down a country road to turn back into a busy state highway was great fun.
Copilot wouldn’t reroute. It kept telling us to turn back onto that road.
The second time, it routed us onto city streets that had low (very low, one was 9’) overpasses. Luckily, I picked up on that before we turned off. Then the app wouldn’t reroute.
Third & last time, I ran copilot concurrently with MapQuest, and ran Apple Maps on the iPad alongside. Copilot lost signal and ran around in circles, then tried to turn us around to start the route over. Neither of the others lost our position. Copilot is now uninstalled and I wouldn’t recommend it to any truck or RV driver.

  • Terrible EXPERIENCE

I have this app specifically for when we travel with our RV and haul our Toyota Camry behind. This directed us down gravel roads with turns so tight, the front end of my Toyota is a mess from the dolly being jack knifed, causing the front end of my brand new car to hit the back of my RV. This is unacceptable. If I could score this app lower than a 1, I would. I am attempting contact customer support with no success. Not only did I literally put my family’s lives in danger at the dangerous road conditions through a gravel road in the Smoky Mountains, but my brand new car is smashed. I had my car type and length in the app, but that did not matter. I can not explain how terrible this trip was. I would NOT recommend this app and in fact will now have to pay quite a lot to fix my car. Ridiculous.

  • Disappointing

I’m so disappointed in this app. I was looking for a good app for routing while driving an RV to make sure the roads were passable. This app was expensive for the RV subscription and quite honestly I will probably delete it in favor of Waze or just back to google. It beeps loudly and incessantly for often no reason. It often showed me off road when I was clearly on the road. When I needed it most at an intersection where I could choose several paths it froze completely and came back too late with the path I had chosen against and wanted me to back track to get there. It refused to show me the original path I had planned on. At that point I gave up and pulled out waze. I still can’t believe I wasted $30 on an app I don’t trust and probably won’t use again. Oh and beyond all that, the interface is incredibly non intuitive and hard to program a trip to begin with. Total waste of money.

  • Pointless! Updated July 19

Downgraded to 1 star from 2. So after being contacted by Copilot after my review (below) they asked for my route so they could test it (6 months after I did the route! Pointless!) Oh yes it’s the map and you asked it to do the shortest route not quickest (no I didn’t) which it did. No it didn’t, it took me on a circular route around Newcastle instead of straight down the A1. Apparently I need to update my map (which was up to date at the time) Any excuse not to issue a refund.
Thanks but I’ll stick to my new TomTom.

I can’t believe I was daft enough to pay for this. I had an ordinary TomTom that I used with my Motorhome (an 8.6m TAG) and it hadn’t really let me down but I wanted something to avoid the chance of going down an unsuitable road. What a waste of money! The first trip out up the A1 to Berwick I ran it alongside my TomTom and it was continually trying to get me to leave the A1. In fact on the way back we followed its instructions only for it to send us on an 8 mile detour through Newcastle centre (def not suitable) and then bring us back on to the A1 in almost the same place we left it!!
I have now paid £300 for a TomTom Camper and I’m well pleased with it.

  • The Best

Way better than specific built truck gps’s sold at truck stops. Gets you into and out of cities, towns, etc on the truck route. Will not route on roads that are not legal for a truck, will not route you under bridges that aren’t high enough for your rig. Full customization available for hazmat, over height, over weight etc. best of all, it’s on the phone,(or tablet), you already have! If you update your device, just re download it to your new device for free. If you have bad or absolutely no cell coverage... doesn’t matter, this works off of the gps system so it’ll work anyway. Just like anything else, it isn’t perfect, I’ve found obscure, and/or new roads that wasn’t noted in the system, (and they have a way to submit that so it’ll be included in their next update), but 95 to 99 percent of the time, this gps will get you where you are going... legally. To many features to go through, but all are useful and rival what I used when I had a dedicated gps back in the day. SO GET IT ALREADY!!!

  • Very useful app

We used this on a cross country trip from Florida to Oregon and back towing a 37’ fifth wheel trailer.
The downloadable maps are essential as there is sparse cell service in some areas of the country. The app worked well.
Trip planning is very nice. There is a learning curve, but its not insurmountable. Also, the app sometimes did strange things when trying to change a route by dragging the calculated route.
We used this on an ipad with a Dual XGPS150A receiver over Bluetooth connection. A very good setup indeed.
Note that this was an older version (early 2018) of the app.
