  • Quality has declined, unfortunately

This was my favorite app, but, unfortunately, probably due to updates to make it compatible with iOS updates, it no longer performs at the previous level. The Search function is severely changed- previously, it would bring up all possible uses of the word you’re searching, but now it seems to stop at 50. I’ve had to return to using the actual Biblegateway site, as the app is becoming useless unless I just want to use it just to read and I’ve also found a flaw in reading. I was in Psalms and was reading through and tried to scroll to Psalm 139 from Psalm 8, but the furthest it would show was 50. This is not the first experience I’ve had like that. Oh, well. It was good while it lasted. It may be an iOS issue, but I’ll need to uninstall or just move on. What I liked about this app in the past was that I could do everything I needed in it (other than search for Hebrew/Greek word origin, which was fine), but now I have to return to using several apps to accomplish what I need. Hopefully, the issues will be resolved; I’ll check back another time.

  • Great Ap Ruined By Annoying Update

This was the very first Bible/devotions app that I ever downloaded years ago, and in all that time, it has been one of my now three “go-to” apps upon waking every morning. However, the last update that I installed completely changed my experience as well as my opinion. Now, when I open the app, I am taken to a page that requires me to click two additional things to get to the devotionals, as opposed to before, when I opened the app, and the devotional was right there. But worst yet is that now, the second you open the dashboard to read the devotional, an annoying AD pops up before you can even read 3 words! I abhor this, and none of my other devotional apps have pop-ups that require me to click on them BEFORE I am allowed to read God’s Word! I do have one that has an ad pop-up once you go to *close* the app, but to have it pop-up before you’ll even allow me to read the scriptures is just tasteless in my opinion, and ruins my entire experience. I also see that the developers of this app don’t seem to be very interactive with people who leave reviews, but maybe, just maybe someone will see this and respond before I delete the app that I have loved for so many years.

  • Lately shuts down for adds

Lately the app suddenly shuts down a lot!!!! for an add to come on while you are reading the Bible. It’s really disruptive and you have to then go back in and find the scriptures you were reading again. I can’t use the app in church for that reason as you think you found your scripture and then everything shuts down in front of your eyes. It never used to do this. It really spoils your reading experience and wastes a lot of time. This used to be the best Bible app and still is as far as comprehensive features go, but the problem with the app shutting down is so significant that I may have to delete it. Also, sometimes when you scroll to find your scripture it isn’t there and looks like the book ends earlier. Please fix this

  • Used to be…

So good but now it crashes constantly, to the point where I don’t use it anymore. When I used it the Bible reading always opened to Genesis 1 and then, when I chose my passage, the app would shut down.

It’s been doing this for a few months now; am very surprised that this hasn’t been fixed.
  • Latest Update Ruined This App

I first found this app in May and I instantly fell in love with it. It helped me find better translations and also helped to weed out terrible ones. It was awesome to be able to go straight from the Bible, to search, and be able to search the same terms with different bibles. Then about a month ago the app got an update. It’s like it went back ten steps. I don’t care that they added ads, but it’s wonky and glitchy and crashes. The Baltic feedback is gone. If I search with one Bible, and switch to a different one, it blanks out and I have to force restart it and that only works sometimes. The worst part is when you choose a book, and want a specific chapter, they’re not all listed. If you’re reading and scroll up too far, it will jump several books and make you lose your place. I had to uninstall. It’s unbearable.

  • I used to love this app. Now I’ll have to cancel subscription and find another

Maybe I’m missing something. Help me out here with the following:

    Under,for example,“Notes” it shows “18:31()”. What book…Psalm, Mark, Revelation?? And what’s the “()”?
In Notes, when I hit 18:31() it should take me to the book and chapter for 18:31. Instead it takes me to Mark, chapter 10, literally in between verse 30 and 31.
I used to be able to go to Isaiah 10:31, go to my note for Luke 12:15, see what I wrote, hit the passage that should take me to Luke, and read it. Instead it takes me back to Isaiah 10:1. I have to scroll down and find Luke-12-15.
When I create a note it doesn’t leave the little box indicating I made a note for the verse.
When I pick a book, chapter and verse (Act 10:21) it always takes me to Act 10:1, no matter what verse I want (not that it matters since the app’s going to take me wherever it feels like).
When I use the parallel option, the second option shows up in the smallest font size. When I try a few fixes the app quits.
The app quits a lot now.
I depend on this app because it was so easy to use. Now, it’s almost useless. After the last update and the problems started I logged off/on, reset to default, went to FAQ (after emailing about a different question before the update…I still haven’t heard from you) and spent more time than I should have to. But like I said, I really hope I’m missing something, and that you can respond to this review.

  • BUGS

This new version is not as user friendly.

When in the bible, and wanting to navigate to a new book/verse/chapter, you can only scroll through to 50 chapters in Psalms! Where are the rest of them? So then you have to go back to the search function to find any chapters after 50.

When changing between versions in the top right hand corner, it doesn't always change the text, only the version button.

The print size keeps reverting to the smallest size! I have deleted and reinstalled the app twice. I will try once more.

    I hate the ads!!

I love that highlighted passages are highlighted across all versions. This was something that I wished for in the old version.

I have several bible apps on my phone but Bible Gateway has always been my favourite. I use the app and the website regularly. I hope these little glitches can be fixed soon!

  • Recent upgrade issues

Hey guys, so I’ve used this app for years & enjoyed it, me and my children find the reader, George’s voice and reading style very easy to listen to.
But recently advertising has been added and there’s so many glitches, only one of the voice overs is working and it’s the dramatised one and the last couple of days I can even open the Bible!
Please fix these issues, we love this app! And it’s only happening on the app for apple. The one on my laptop is fine.

  • Sad of the Changes

I write this review with a sad heart. I understand that the designers of Bible Gateway had to make a decision in the way of funding ; the Bible Gateway app is almost unusable. I am not quick to give a review and honestly I rarely give them at all. The ads in the app do not function correctly they take over the app and do not allow one to exit them even after watching the entire ad and giving the ad another 10 seconds or so as “x” appears on the screen. The “x” does nothing. I have used this app for many years and have told many to use it as it was one of the best of its type. Sorry but is is not what it used to be and again, I understand the need for funding but when the very thing you are trying to support takes over it becomes something entirely different.

  • Please return the app to previous version!

I’ve been using this app for a decade. In my job I am able to put earbuds in and I’ve enjoyed listening to the Bible and jotting notes down when I think of something as I listen. In the last update the audio is no longer functioning properly. Sometimes it gets stuck in a loop on the same book. Often it resets my audio back to Genesis 1. Notes aren’t appearing anymore as I read. This is a tragedy to me as I’ve logged well over 100 notes over thousands of hours of listening. This app has been so instrumental in my spiritual growth over the last several years that I’m pretty stressed out about the bugs. Please return the app, I’d give the version before the update 5 stars easily!
