  • A Pass

Someone was locked in a padded cell for ten years to think up how to move a great magazine into an exciting interactive online experience. Top marks for realizing this and packing ten years' ideas into this app.

Bottom marks however for three critical issues. (1) making the interface horribly confusing. You never know here you are, where you're going, what you might have missed and especially for ignoring all standard practices in computer application navigation; (2) fuzzy text on some items, inability to rotate the "magazine" into portrait and inability to scale or adjust, reverse forward and otherwise normally navigate some pictures and articles; (3) last, most importantly and worst of all, marketing's failure to realize that a great magazine has many aspects that render it of UK-specific relevance, and thus reduced utility and lesser interest outside the UK, but nevertheless trying to charge nearly three times equivalent magazine prices in North America. Earth to marketing: pack your bags, the shuttle to Pluto is leaving.

So a great magazine, a great attempt, but a definite "PASS" as in "give it a pass, move on by". Shame.

Bottom marks for Apple also, for claiming this app is "free" - pse advise who your accountants are, what four function calculator they use, and how long it takes them to draft the shareholders reports. Free? Not. Not remotely close.

  • Where is the iPhone app???

Dear Bauer Media, We iPhone customers love CAR Magazine, too! Please honor us with an iPhone 5 app. Thank you!
  • Hopelessly long to download.

This app takes way too long to download an issue. If you change the window from the downloading screen it stops, if you leave it to download on its own it stops when the iPad goes to sleep. Isn't background downloading a necessity?
Does it have to start at the beginning each time as well?
Really sorry as I love the mag, and enjoy the iPad version of their competition magazine Evo, which has never caused any problems.

  • Amazing app

I love Car and have been waiting for the app. I wondered how they could possibly transfer the high production values of the paper version to a digital format. They've done it! It's a great app, in fact better than the paper version in many ways. Fantastic photography and easy to explore. Wonderful. I subscribe to many publications on my iPad and even discounting the content, this is the best. Just great.

  • Fantastic

Awesome magazine app. Have been waiting ages to see Car available in this format. Really well done and whilst early issues a tad buggy with the odd crash and no retina screen compatibility, the latest issue is perfect with those two problems resolved. This is a must have!!
  • Wonderful to see Car Magazine on iPad

As a match for your brilliant editorial please add retina display support (critical) and the ability to use portrait orientation for more natural reading. Thank you for bringing my favourite magazine to iPad.
  • Fantastic magazine, just a few annoying crashes

I have thought Car has being a great magazine for many years and I really enjoy it, being waiting ages for an iPad app as well.

Only issue is that it seems to consistently crash while I am reading it which usually means going back to the start page. Evo mag does this as well so it may just be the base app but its pretty annoying. Others than that its a fantastic app, thanks Car

  • Well done

The amount of content per issue is huge. Navigation within the app is different than with others, so use the How To page to get familiar with it. The print version has long been the best auto magazine in the world.
  • Not a bad start...

Fantastic to finally have my favourite motoring magazine on the iPad. Had been mainly reading Evo UK lately due to their great App.

First issue is a great start but needs extra work. A lot of text and images are not optimised for the retina display and look very rough. Also some of the interactive elements try a bit too hard and are difficult to discover or use.

I'm sure it will get better with a few issues worth of experience under their belt.

One more step to a paper free life!

  • Worth the wait

Well executed app, it really uses the tablet medium to maximum effect rather then replicating the print version.
