  • Classics Never Die!!!

This app is one of those which truly shows the magic and power the iPad provides as an instrument for musicians. Great to see this update drop the same week as Borderlands dropped. Great work Marcos. Thanks for the love and care you’ve shown for this app. Still as fresh today as it was the day it was launched. I guess what they say is true, ‘great design is eternal’! 👊🏼™️

  • Best iOS music app hands down

This is a very innovative take on sampling and takes full advantage of a touch screen to manipulate audio samples in various ways. Extremely musical and essential in my music production setup. Just updated with Ableton Link and a crisp UI on iPad pro’s. LOVE IT!
  • most useful audio production app available

If I had to choose one app to make live or recorded music based on looping and chopping samples, it would be Samplr.
You can dump GarageBand, Auria Pro, even AUM and Audiobus (well, maybe not - and you still need AudioShare/Audio Copy) and still have a great tool to make great postmodern music.

I do wish the dev would do some overhaul, but if it means $20 for some UI differences, aesthetic color updates, and the addition of AU3 then I’m fine with it as is ... but honestly I would be happy to support the dev for any paid upgrades as long as there’s no subs.

    * like a lot of apps out there - especially audio apps - if you have any issues with something not happening like it should, just dump and reinstall. I used to leave chopped reviews based on the fact that I had no idea how many things can go wrong on an install, believing issues I was having needed to be fixed in the app. Don’t think I’ve seen in with Samplr, but I’ve had it for so long and reinstalled it and everything else enough times to know. So it seems like some of the less than 5 star reviews are experiencing this and should reinstall ... either that or they’re Abelton Enabled snobs that have never bussed a mix of 8 mics on an actual desk... not that that’s required (ok now I’m the snob).

  • The power!

This is one of the driving reasons I purchased an ipad, so apple, say thanks to Alonso. Great app, one of the smoothest flowing that I've seen, great interface (dark colors are easy on the eyes, and battery). I would love to see more updates, and more involvement in the forum, but I understand the nature of life and the creative process and can respect where it's at now. So much potential for creativity, and with a few more updates and features this will evolve into something which must be experienced to be believed. The possibility is there for so much new sound manipulation and creation. Please keep the updates coming and listen to the advice on the forums Alonso.

  • Hard to believe!!

This app is a revelation - a stunning example of possibilities unimagined only a few years ago. Only a few years ago, we could barely fantasize the kinds of functions and features made so easy and immediately accessible here.

Samplr is not for disco boys, robot DJs and wanna-be rock stars. There are plenty of apps for people who like to have machines compose and perform their music for them? Samplr is not really good for that kind of thing. It is, however, a giant leap forward for people willing to go to the edge of electronic music possibilities and maybe even jump over it.

It's worth 100 times the price for those with the imagination it requires to fully exploit its vast capabilities.

  • Pretty much perfect

I use this app in almost every piece of music I have made since purchasing it and there are few if any real limitations, just the occasional failure on my part of not of fully apprehending its full potential. Also, there is really no need to complain about Dropbox when you can export to plenty of other apps that have Dropbox support. Quit being so picky and/or lazy. Dropbox isn't much more than a minor convenience if that. I have long since been using Audioshare for organizing, importing and exporting and have never once missed Dropbox integration in a music app.

  • A few tweaks needed

    Three things:

The sequencer needs work. Phenomenal tool for creating sounds/patches but as a production tool, there's some distance to go yet. I use Loopy HD and other recording means so it does not bother me much - but if you are looking for an all in one device, the sequencer is a bit awkward.

The sample chops NEEDS to be have individually pitch adjustable zone capabilities. This way you can, for example, take a single pitched voice sample and create your own multiple pitch zones. This should not be too difficult to implement. The Reason Octorex sampler has this capability and it does not need to do any true sample chopping i.e. chopping the sample literally into separate samples.

Another important chop function that would be an improvement to Samplr is to remember where manual chops were set after deactivating chop function. Once I set my own chops and wish to monetarily revert to the full loop, Samplr does not allow me to go back to my chops - it only allows me go back to the 4, 8, ...etc. equally divided chops.

Other than that, this is really a great tool for making some nice unique sound designs/patches for performance.

    Thanks!

  • Amazing!

One of my favorite apps. Great interface. No virtual knobs (virtual knobs on a touch screen are strange to me) Lots of controls right at your fingers, not embedded in various hidden menus. I love that it is not trying to emulate real world equipment, but instead was designed specifically for a touch screen. Works great with other apps like animoog, funkbox, etc. The sample processing tools are all incredible. One of the best beat re-arrangers I've ever used.

Only things I wish were different... I don't find the amplitude modulation effect that useful, would rather have some sort of pitch shifter. Would be awesome to have some panning control as well. But these are very minor gripes.

  • Woahhhh

This is an amazing time for musicians of all kinds. This is minimally a $200 app. It's thought out better than most "professional" apps by far. (I only say that because the iPad is just making it's way into what would be considered the pro world, i.e. apps that cost hundreds to thousands of dollars.) The UI is fluid beyond words. The manual is immediately usable. You can feel the passion of the developer who knows the power of the tools available today and wants to bring that benefit to everyone, touring/pro musicians and first time music makers alike.

This birth of the iPad is allowing us access to some amazing tools at ridiculously low prices. Enjoy it while it lasts!

  • This is Where the Fun Starts

It doesn't matter what kind of musician you are this is where the fun starts. If you don't know samples from synthesizers it doesn't matter it's easy to get your hands into this and actually create music that is sensible and from an aesthetic standpoint useful and interesting.

If you haven't read the information page go ahead, it's quite interesting and you'll find out what people in the industry think of Samplr. That said it doesn't really matter what they're saying about Samplr, It matters what you think and you'll think wonderful things about it. Anybody who plays this will probably walk away with that same feeling. The interface is wonderful to work with, everything makes sense as you start working and editing, best of all everything sounds good.

Like so many synthesizers, samplers, as well as music programs in general, I keep asking myself, "where were these programs in 1993?" when I was slaving over a keyboard and computer writing music for work and general enjoyment. Sadly, they were nowhere to be found, but it's nice to know that finally as we're hitting the early 21st century so many wonderful and enjoyable programs are being made available, especially for the iPad.

If you like programs that enhance your ability to work things out then Samplr is the app for you. It's helpful and there's not enough good things to be said for such a simple composing/editing app. Give it a try and you'll end up thanking yourself.
